I didn't care for Far Cry 2...would I like Far Cry 3?

I absolutely loved the first Far Cry on PC. I was very impressed by it and enjoyed myself from start to finish. Therefore I was very excited about Far Cry 2 and picked up the 360 version shortly after release. But, I was met with a lot of disappointment. The save points and such were too far apart and traveling to mission objectives was a chore. Felt like it took way too much ammo to down simple enemies. I just simply was not having fun playing the game.

I am not saying people are wrong about liking FC2 and maybe the faults I mentioned were my own shortcomings. However, considering how I felt about it do you think I would enjoy FC3?

Well considering you can manually save i think you should be fine. Though it does respawn you at the nearest radio tower or fast travel area. Going to missions isn't really bad because of the fast travel and conveniently located vehicles at the fast travel locations.

If you want to just run through (main) missions it not gonna be as simple as you hoped. The game highly encourages you to find and unlock radio towers to increase your map view and take over strategic locations to unlock the fast travel options while eliminating i believe most of the enemies soldier spawns around that locale. Finally side quests/activities are only unlocked taking strategic locations as well. Its not impossible to run through them and ignoring these things but it can be bit of an obstacle and even chore running past enemies vehicles.

All in all i think you can enjoy FC3 the problems you had in 2 are at least addressed in 3 to some extent. Since its an open-world game its many activities do their job of encouraging you to get them since their rewards are pretty enticing and convenient. Though most of the rewards/findable goodies just amount to money which is essentially useless since gear unlocks for free with radio towers saved and you craft your remaining gear/storages.

This is my first Far Cry so please take that into note.

I thought Far Cry 2 was a monumental piece of shit but so far I'm really enjoying Far Cry 3. It pretty much eliminates all the faults you have listed.

Captcha: How about that?

Yes, how about that indeed.

I'd never played either FarCry game before, but I'm absolutely LOVING Far Cry 3. It's a fantastic shooter, heck, it's a fantastic game, period. I wouldn't quite put it on a GotY list (It's good, but not Mass Effect or Skyrim good), but it's most definitely a fantastic game well worth owning.

Friend got it for me for an early Xmas gift, and now I've been nagging him to get it, too, so we can go through the co-op story. All I've repaid him with is $20 in MSP for Dragonborn, and the Humble THQ Bundle :D

I liked Farcry 2, but don't like Farcry 3. So take that as you will. Maybe you'll like it for all the reasons that I don't.

My only gripe with 3 is after a certain point the game seems a little rushed (like the last chapter of witcher 2), it's fun though. I love how if your luck a predator will walk into the enemy camp while scouting it out and do half the work for you.

And just for clarity, I never finished the pc version of the first (i completed the 360 one with the added campaign, think it was called farcry predator or sumat), and i hated 2.

I never finished Far Cry II due to the incredibly long travel times between mission and constantly having to fight my way against the same opponents on the same dirt path using the same tactics for no reward.

Far Cry III however was far more engaging. Sure, some times I felt like climbing radio towers was a bit of 'busywork' and the travel time was sometimes annoying at first... until I got my wingsuit.

I hated Far Cry 2, it was one of the worst games that I had ever played this generation, and I didn't care for the first game either. I'm loving Far Cry 3 though, you should definitely pick it up.
