I didn't even know you could do that and I've had this game for years.

My friend was bitching about being bored today so I put Bioshock in for him to play. 1 tutorial and 10 minutes later he figures out how to aim down the sights of his gun by clicking in the right stick. That's something I never knew how to do in 2 playthroughs of the game.

Anyone ever had something so obvious in a game pointed out by someone who's never played before, share your stories for all to know and learn.

I played Pokemon for many years. Up until last year, I didn't know that Rock type attacks were neutral against Rock types. I thought it was Not Very Effective.

I literally smacked my face with my hand for not knowing that. >_>

Yeah. I didn't ever use a rock attack on a Pokemon where it would't normally be not very effective. It finally happened and I was just like, O_O

It's usually things like locking on a target... usually after playing through and thinking
"That would have been a lot easier with a target lock."

In Bioshock you can attach mines onto objects and then use telekinesis to throw them towards your enemies.

I had the game for a year before I accidentally did it

Oh God I can relate to that! the differences in combos between the games and the trading cards seriously ****ed me up!

I've also met some really good and seasoned Starcraft players that were completely oblivious to the same type of 'rock-paper-scissors' system that's in that game. with the different type of armor ect.

I got one of my own old favorites from when I was a little girl, Armored Fist 3, up from the drawer. After playing the first 4 missions I thought "hmm, it's sorta hard to aim with this thing". I'd be wasting tons and tons of rounds into the cliff sides cause I had trouble aiming manually and drive at the same time. Then, a friend came over. I'm always so confident so I didn't do the tutorial, but she did cause she never played the game before. In the tutorial you learned that by pressing enter the tank would auto-focus it's turret on the nearest target... I felt so stupid =3.

I did the most stupid thing ever. I played Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, and I played for hours and hours trying to find the bosses and the keys. I could never find anything in that wretched labyrinth. Then, halfway through the game, I accidentally pressed Select, and a map came up! Thanks, Castlevania, you could have told me earlier.

This really doesn't happen to me all that often...

Usually for me it's a weapon that I've ignored since I'd gotten it, because I was doing well enough without it. (Hell, I beat the new Wolfenstein on Hard without using any supernatural weapons... beyond when it was demanded by the plot)

But sometimes I'll miss out on something truly incredible... like on Dead Space (I beat it on my first play-through with just the plasma cutter). Then I watched a friend play it and get to the part where you had to pull an object alongside a long, narrow bridge, and monsters were climbing up on both sides... and he pulls out the Line Gun (A weapon I hadn't seen for reasons stated above), and clears the entire bridge with two shots.

The line gun is now one of my favorite guns (Although it does kill the fear element when you have that kind of power at your fingertips)

Fallout 3, took me forever to figure out I could repair weapons myself, and sell my stuff to the Trade Caravans.

I did read the instructions its just those two things seemed invisible to me on first reading.

Yep, crouch and press X, like you are pickpocketing.
What?, holy shit.

I'm going off to play Fallout 3.

EDIT
Are you ready to shit bricks?
[HEADING=2]In Zelda ocarina of time, doing the Royal Family Song next to a cow will make it give you healthy milk!, but you need an empty bottle [/HEADING]

The game can generate its own Skirmish maps, in Red Alert 2. The only thing is, the option to do so is labeled 'Random Map', which gives the impression of randomly selecting a map...
