I didn't know they could make an anime about that...

You can make any medium communicate any kind of story.

Japan just doesn't have a filter so we get utility poles playing DBZ Tennis with Samurai.

Also Martian Successor Nadesico, a mecha anime about a bunch of mecha anime enthusiasts flying to stop a radical group of aliens who believe an in-show mecha anime to be their reason for being.

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
"This anime is like putting a group of normal people into a room, coming back an hour later to find they have grotesquely murdered each other!"

It also has the most intricate story line I have ever seen in an anime.

I'm still surprised by the lack of an anime/manga based on the life of Musashi Miyamoto. Yes, I know there are animes that feature characters based on him, or that mention him, and such. What I'm looking for is a more literal story based on his life. Think something along the lines of Kenshin.

For those wondering, Musashi was one of the greatest samurai to ever live. He was alleged to have fought over 60 duels, those it is believed to have been closer to 100, and never lost. He won his first duel at the age of 13. He was well known to have shown up late to most duels. He was known to be a rather accomplished writer and artist. And his most famous duel was won against Sasaki Kojirō on an island. He showed up late (of course), supposed used a wooden sword that he carved out of an oar on the way to the duel, and then escaped using the high tide and defending against attackers that supported Kojirō.

I ask: Why is there not an anime based on his life?
Because it would be too damn epic, thats why xD

My answer is a little off course because it's a manga, but whatever.

Silver Spoon. It's about an agricultural school. Yeah, that's right. Cows. Chickens. Horses. You name it.

Interestingly enough, it's by the same author who did Fullmetal Alchemist. Go figure.
My God. is it any good? i will never think of Hiromu Arakawa the same again.

It's also interesting to note that there is a new-ish manga, Bakuman, which is about... making a manga. It also has an anime now, so it's an anime based on a manga about making managa, and the main characters want their manga to become an anime... yeah
I love Bakuman, I both watched the first season and currently reading it, waiting for second season now ^^

OT: Ya, they will pretty much make anime out of anything, football and baseball anime is old though, so don't think thats weird ;)

There is a manga about collecting soda cans.
They fight the evil of non-aluminum cans.
To save the world.

It's entertaining, yeah. Arakawa actually grew up on a Dairy Farm in rural Japan so her knowledge on how these farms are is quite in depth. It's definitely fun and the sense of humour is similar to that of FMA.

But you'll have to accept that the manga is not like FMA at all. It doesn't have the depth or the truly epic story line and characters. It's purely what it was supposed to be: a fun weekly released manga about a city kid in a rural agricultural school... who is often munched on by a calf.

For me, Yakitate Japan! takes the cake when it comes to odd subject matters of anime and manga. Basically, it uses all of the nice familiar tropes from more or less any Jump! sports manga (rivals, over-the-top powers and a vast disregard for physics) and turns it into a series about baking bread.
I really love that I made this topic now. and here I was thinking baseball was weird.
Yeah. Making bread that can ACTUALLY kill someone, send them to Heaven, then revive them again is considered 'Okay'. Only good enough to win a small competition.
And if you eat enough "bad" bread and use different ingredients you'll turn into a big mean mother hubbard bread monster that can brainwash people....xD

King of Tennis lol, an anime about tennis. I didn't think it could happen, but it did.
They had to Dragon Ball Z it up a little bit though (edit: Also, Prince of Tennis, not King)

OT: I didn't know they could make an anime where the man in the relationship was a catman and the woman was a human, but Inuyasha proved me wrong.
...I don't know about you, but I totally would watch tennis if they were like that.

Now, on topic, yes, they can make an anime/manga about anything. And that's awesome. If somewhat creppy sometimes.
Yup, Creepy. Take an anime called Kampher, just google it. It's about... A boy that randomly transforms into a girl to fight other girls. Ya, you should really check it out though, great story and loveable characters.

Anime can be about all type of sports, and manga can literally be about anything. Hajime No Ippo is a popular anime series about boxing. There's enough hentai manga about really obscene sex themes.

I can dream, can't I? T.T
But I agree, it would be ridiculously epic. I didn't even mention how he single-handedly defeated a school, or created a dual wielding sword style.

No one has mentioned Moyashimon yet, the anime about a guy who can see microbes without magnification and goes to an agricultural college to study microbiology. It's pretty funny, and some of the microbes are adorable.

Bartender is the story of a small bar that contains a man with the ability to make the perfect cocktail. The show is mainly a series of episodic stories where people come to this man with their problems and he helps pick them up by being a good listener and serving them cocktails and explaining how the symbolism of the alcohol pertains to their problems.

Spice and Wolf is about two things. Firstly, it's a love story between a traveling merchant and a pagan wolf goddess who assumes human form to travel with him. Secondly, it's about the merchant's trading travels and the economic policies that arise as part of the plot.

Princess Tutu is a story about fairy tales and the role that an author takes in the development of a story he tells. It's told primarily from the perspective of an author watching a tragic romance unfold from an "exterior meta-verse" and the duck he turns into a girl in order to force the narrative to progress.

Akagi, my favorite among the anime I'm listing, is the story of a guy who is so good at Mahjong, he becomes a legendary figure among the Yakuza that control large parts of Japan. He is so uncompromising in his values that he tears down the personalities of the rich gangsters he plays against, who have built their entire lives around facades of Power and invincibility.

Otaku No Video, an anime about the making of the company that made the anime 'Otaku no Video'.

Which is, itself, very exaggerated. And funny.

OTAKING!

Seriously. I'm not even gonna say what's it about. Nothing explicit, but just... were the creators of this high on shrooms or something?
here, have a look, if you want to say WTF. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobobo-bo_Bo-bobo

Nose hair? Really, Japan? Nose hair???

I found what I want my dream job to be through an anime... REC. Fantastic anime. About.... Voice acting. It didn't glorify it or anything like that. In fact it made it seem like a pain in the ass. But something stirred inside me. After I had finished the series, I stood up and declared "I want to be a voice actor!" My parents dismissed it as a phase. That was four years ago.
