Lately I have seen a drastic increase in posts declaring that the poster doesn't care about the topic. Someone reading a thread and writing a reply obviously puts effort in it, so the act of declaring it is beyond ironic. Sometimes this even leads to "who cares less" fights where two posters post time after time how the other one is butthurt while they themselves really couldn't care less.

This has been a common phenomenom in anonymous imageboards, but with the OWS threads it has become alarmingly common here too. Here it seems to stem from despair and pessimism about making changes, but spreading apathy is even worse. And jumping into threads to tell you don't care about them is stupid anyway.

If you don't care about this, don't post. I dare you.

Yeah I made a Skyrim related thread yesterday and the fouth post was:

"Who cares about Skyrim anyway? Singleplayer is shit" or something like that. Then again that may have been a case of some really shitty trolling rather than simply not caring.

Not that I care though....

I don't care that you don't care. I could obviously care so much less about you caring that I chose to make a rambling post about how much I don't care about you not caring about the OP'er complaining about people complaining that they don't care.

Good question. Who knows? It's like the people who go into Skyrim/My Little Pony threads and go 'ANOTHER SKYRIM/MY LITTLE PONY THREAD? FFS'. As though that will accomplish something meaningful.

Is this a true face palm moment, or are you adding a further layer of irony to my post?

(as I obviously do care, and thus could care less).

...Careception?...Actually, fuck it. I really don't care enough to attempt to decipher that convoluted headfucker of a sentence.

They do care. Since they are voicing their negative opinions on it. Personal opinions I might add.

And for people saying 'Nobody cares about Skyrim...' Wow. Of course some people care you nab.

Eight.

There are only eight Divines. Are we going to have to exterminate your family?

There's a reason for this. You see that number under your avatar that increases when you post? For some people, if their number's bigger than yours, it means they're better than you.

I'm not making this up, I have literally had people try to convince me they're right because they've got higher post-counts.

Obviously they aren't right - as Mr. T famously said "A wise man speaks because he's got something to say, a fool speaks because he's got to say something".

I'm familiar with the post-count grinding, and some sites even show the post number as 999999 after it reaches one hundred to discourage it. The anonymous sites though, are even more of a mystery. Someone with no online identity at all, tells someone else with no identity that he doesn't care about either subject matter or his opinion. And on imageboards that means the thread is bumped to the front page.

"Anonymous representative from a company that requested to remain unnamed had nothing to comment" -actual line from the newspaper

Alternatively: I do not/don't care for this thread... But agreed, if you are saying care less, it's couldn't.

OT, I agree with you there! I have seen it too, and it makes me think 'Why!!!'. I just don't understand. I only post if I have something to say on the topic, or to fool around in a jokey way, but never just for no reason! Isn't that against the guidelines anyway?

The wisdom of Mr. T strikes again! I shall use that in my life at some point.

OT: Some people say they don't care to troll, others to be dicks and others because they see apathy as being cool. To them I say that anyone who is willing to stand up and be counted for something they care about and believe in is a lot cooler than the person who does not care about anything.

Oh God yes, you'd think if that person really didn't want to discuss MLP/Skyrim/etc they wouldn't click on a thread about that topic in the first place! It's just as bad as those people who post on "what do you hate threads" that they hate people constantly bringing up [INSERT THING HERE]. Oh the irony.
