no...because I like my games to be good

and I have this thing called "taste" which can also be applyed to movies and music
Oh, hey there captain condescension, ever heard of personal opinion? "different strokes for different folks" and all that? so no need to put it like that, really.
perhaps...

but I always get the impression that some tend to be a little "passive agressive" in thier proclamation of:

[i/] "Well I for one just like games for fun! *cough*Imnotapretentiosasshollikeyou*cough* I mean really, all this talk of "art" and "graphics" and "imersion" whatver happned to fun? *cough*Imsohappyandcarefeecomparedtoyouuptighttwat*cough*" [/i] orr..that could just be me...

or when they act like this line of thourght is somhow revolutionary or noteworthy

all I can say in regards to that is "good for you", it doesnt lend itself to interesting discussion really
I understand/see where you're coming from, but i tend to play games for pure fun value, and not in a pretentious twat way, i share your hatred of them....For example, i have had more fun playing Golden sun than i did CoD, but i still found those games fun to play.

I agree with you, Vault101. Yes, the main point of gaming is to have fun but if a game is unoriginal, poorly written or overly buggy we should, as a subculture, criticize it in order to at least attempt to encourage developers to put more thought into their games. Whether it works or not why would you pay for the same game repackaged?

But surely if the game is fun then it is good even if it is full of glitches or has rubbish graphics or whatever other problem you can think of shouldnt make any difference if it is still fun
I assume your joking

but if not....

1. here an Idea if FUN is the abolute watermark of games..then glitches and Rubbish graphics affect me fun negativly

MIND=BLOWN

2. peoples Idea of "fun" is very very different....somone might find wacky hijinks (like saints row) fun...where as others might find having a conversation in an RPG fun

3. if you dont complain about shit then it never gets better...wich as part of the reason that love or hate yahtzee he is a breath of fresh air who doesnt give in to mediocrity

However, dont want to get involved In the discussion? You picked the wrong website to complain in.
Obvious troll is obvious?

No offence intended; I totally agree. It's just that the OP is either looking for trouble or attention; that or his/her stated desire to avoid discussion is a lie

I'm actually quite the opposite, I enjoy analysing the mechanics, the story and the philosophy/message of the game more than actualy playing them.

Well it's fine for you to enjoy games in that way. You don't have to talk about them when you're not playing them. You don't have to be part of gamer culture. Although I find it strange that you are posting on the forums of a website based around gamer culture when you say these things.

But I disagree that there is no place for the discussion of games. In fact I find that statement rather arrogant, not that I want to come across as antagonistic of course. Games are a very powerful tool and have huge potential. Yeah they can be used for nothing more than simple fun when you want to turn your brain off (which seems to me that's how you enjoy games), but they can be so much more. And people should explore these possibilities. It's fine that you don't want to, but that doesn't mean no-one is allowed to.

What a ridiculous post. Coming to a website about the emergence of video games as art and as a very part of modern culture and complaining about gaming culture. How about you go to white power rally and explain the benefits of racial tolerance?
