I'm trying pretty hard to get into it, but the accessibility is almost non-existent, are there any really good tutorials out there? because this game is complicated as FUCK to understand without one...

i don't understand the appeal of games that are completely inaccessible and unfriendly to newcomers... but i'm trying to get into it anyways because it may just embody exactly what i'm looking for in a game

Its a game that doesnt profit off accessibility, it profits off of having a small group of utterly devoted (and partially insane) fans

Look up the complete and utter newbie tutorial; thats how I started playing the game. I'd link it but I'd be damned if work filters haven't blocked it; maybe someone else will link it, but thats the best step to learning to play; after that download Dwarf Therapist to manage the dwarves better

First here is some help

Lazy Newb Pack For easier DL and Set up ( http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=59026.0 )

Second it is perfectly ok to not like something some one else likes. Even if that something is somewhat liked by a few people. Its quite alright. I hate all the Halos past the first one. Does that make me a mutant? (Some would say so >.>) No it just makes me a person who doesn't enjoy Halo as much as others, no biggy.

Thirdly, The game is found appealing by a few people because it is very in-depth, allows for creative freedom (COUGH LIKE MINECRAFT COUGH... ALSO I AM RAISEN MY FLAME SHIELDS >.<), is unique, has multiple play modes, is constantly being developed with more goodies, can be pretty funny, and has a quirky lovable sense about it. That's just a few things I came up with personally, but is not limited to other reasons why people like DF.

O and yes the learning curve is intense, but that kind of adds to its charm for some people who like a challenge.

LOL yeah the learning curve is retarded I wont lie. It took me a good few months to get comfortable with the game. I have been playing it for a year now and I still have not done everything i can in the game. I suggest going into the game with an attitude that failure is fun and hilarious. If you do you will enjoy the game a lot more.

For instance one of my first fortresses I had a dwarf go insane and methodically choke out every dog in my fort. I think he was angry that I had so many of them, either way it created a spiral of madness that destroyed my fort. I laughed pretty hard to say the least.

A comparison, shall we?

Here's something I found on Kraken's Dwarf Fortress LP thread (which I'm too lazy to link):

http://afteractionreporter.com/2009/02/09/the-complete-and-utter-newby-tutorial-for-dwarf-fortress-part-1-wtf/

Not sure if it will work or not. Never played Dwarf Fortress.

Some amount of fun can be had just watching what happens. The insane amount of detail can lead to some hilarious situations. My current fortress is run by a crazy cat lady, she currently had 6 of them following her. Also:

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. did it better.

I'm fairly sure that picture is from XKCD and is about EVE.
