Coldplay, The office, The Catherine Tate show...there is actually a huge list but my mind has gone blank. Probably blocked it all out for the sake of my sanity.

There was this big brotheresque show on dutch tv called "the gilded cage" wich basically involves a bunch of complete morons stuck in a luxury mansion living a rich life. The only catch was, they had to bully each other into leaving (when they werent fucking each other). Offcourse, the management put different kinds of people in there. Its almost your basic horror movie line up: fat guy, flamboyant homosexual guy, blonde bimbo, black woman etc.

SO basically, all you saw were these people being complete cunts to each other. But the entire country was gasped in shock when they started getting violent. Even politics had nothing better to do than debate over this show, seeing one woman more or less left her children behind for a year, so they could only see her on tv screaming, crying and cussing at everybody else.

Paradise hotell, some crappy Norwegian reality series, which could be compared to big brother.

Almost everyone's been there, you walk into school/ work/ college, and nearly EVERYONE'S talking about it, some amazing TV show, movie or game, they ask if you've seen it so that they can talk about their favourite parts to you, you say no, and they leave you alone.

The rest of the day they won't shut up about it, so after you get home, you decide to sit down and watch/ play it, to see what the fuss is about.

After it's finished you just sit there and say to yourself "I don't get it".

Why is it so popular?

So I'm asking, what popular things that everyone else seems to like do you just not understand the appeal of?

P.S. For the record my things would be The Goonies, The Goodies or Big Brother.
all of those stink though.

I have to go with any of the reality TV shows, and these new talent show lie American idol/danceign with the starts. I have no cool why they are still o nthe air. Also the new shows on cartoon network like Tim and eric great job, what happend to subtle humor, clever language, now its just like fart sounds and bright colors
Couldn't agree with you more
I guess I may just be getting older but I remember shows liek Rocko's modern life that were fuuny when i was kid, bt now when I rewatch it I find a lot of really funny adult humor in there, I don't see that clever humor present in these new shows. also the shows like TNMT that were funny yet tought morals I don't see that anymore in kids shows. I really feel that creative writeing has gone out the window

Also sponge bob WTF? how is that on the air right now

Big Brother... I just can't see why.
Steve Carrel - he's ok as a supporting character, but when he's the main he begins to get really annoying.
Things like Heros or Lost. Just never got into them...

Anything with Will Farrell, or anything regarding the "Jackass" people, up to and including the video game.

Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!

I've been told I have a great sense of humor. I can find humor in anything. Stupid, inane things, evil things, racist/dead baby jokes, anything that's meant to be twisted or funny, I find funny.

What I DON'T get is how this show is so popular, and how they keep getting celebrities to appear. I find about 1/10 skits actually amusing (Zack Galafinakis and his gravy salesman), but 90% is drivel. Okay, so you wrote a song about having long legs, and aminate yourself as walking in the clouds. Should I be laughing?

I actually fear that this is what the next generation finds funny...

Does anyone here like the show?

Halo 3...it is shit face it...
This is what I don't get.
Its that people think that because they don't like something, it is bad.
I mean, even as much as I hate Twilight, I have to admit that there is a certain 'zing' to it that makes it difficult to put down.

Now, I say, "I don't get it" when people say something is the greatest thing ever when I know they're insincere.
Like some of the girls in my dorm and their current boyfriend. They said the same things about the last boys, but call them horrible now.
I know how its gonna end.

LOST!! i can't understand the magic. i think people only keep seeing it because of the 'addiction' factor because it all seems just too stupid/weird/wannabe smart to me. and the again i only watched a few episodes, but since one of them involved polar bears... not willing to give it a chance :p

I enjoy it quite a bit. To me, it's just goofy. If you like memes, it's kind of like each episode features their own self-made memes. It also parodies public access broadcasting, advertising, and cinema which I find funny. The guest stars are great, the music is catchy, and they make good use of green screen, while making it look ever-so-bad. It's one of those shows that people really aren't on the fence about, you either love or hate it. TAEASGJ is it's own thing in a lot of rights, and in a lot of ways it borrows (or pays homage) to other great comedy stylings.

So... the depth of stupid is so vast, that I have yet to gain a proper appreciation for it? I guess I'm still just amazed that anyone could get paid to do what they do (i.e. writing songs about people who pee sitting down).

I think the best skit I've seen (IIRC) is when they get into a car accident, and then take out pocket-sized versions of themselves that breakdance fight.

I agree, LOST had the potential to be amazing (and I'm sure I was in the first few seasons), but from what I've seen they've just gone bananas with it all, secret underground laboratories? On a desert island? Riiight...

Oh, and Ricky Gervais, if I watched him for an hour hour I think I'd laugh once.
