I don't play on a PC so suck it!

ive have a bunch of friends who play PC and they think that consoles are worse and so im like screw that but i also see that there are alot of reviewers who also use pc and im just wonadering... whats so special about PC?

Whatever works best for you. I have a PC which is my primary gaming platform, an XBox 360 for split screen shooters when friends are over and I still have my PS2 for my collection of RPGS. I prefer the flexibility of a PC(modding, dedicated servers and better graphics) for most of my gaming but I think there are niches where the consoles have nailed the gameplay better than PCs have. Heck, I use a wired 360 controller on my PC for some games because they work better with a controller than a mouse and keyboard.

You have to upgrade it every year* instead of every 5-6 years.

*assuming you're so anal about graphics that you're buying the top of the line every year.


There's literally no reason to be buying a new computer or upgrading every year. Processor clocking speeds plateaued years ago and since the console industry is stagnating because of the unsustainable business model behind the PS3, and the 360 most games simply are not that demanding. Honestly the best looking game to have come out is still Crysis, which is, what, 3 years old now?


Really, the perks to PC gaming is that it's a better value. It may cost more, but you're getting more out of it.

Honestly, with the graphics plateau, rise of Steam and cheaper costs of games, the biggest deterrent to PC gaming by this point... is the PC Gaming community. They aren't exactly a warm and welcoming bunch.

Being indiscriminately welcoming is how you got the LIVE community. Selectivity isn't a bad thing, or would you like to eat nutrient paste and live in cubicles? Being universally warm and welcoming is just asking for homogenization. Believe it or not, a lot of PC gamers actually put quality before quantity. That's why things like private servers exist.

Of course, the common misconception that has made the term "elitist" (meaning an awareness of belonging to the elite, or a belief in rule by the elite, NOT the exclusion of the non-elite) come to mean "intolerant" (this is the word you guys are looking for, pay attention in school kids) is that if the PC community doesn't accept you now, they never will and just hate you out of spite because of your preferences. Not true. What we hate is your attitude and stubbornness. Prove that you're willing to do what the rest of us did and spend some time doing RESEARCH. If you come into the community with an open mind, a view of honest criticism as advice instead of a personal attack, and show evidence of doing some homework instead of jumping in blind and expecting us to hold your hand through the crap you should have already known before connecting (option menus, tutorials, and google are all great ways to not look like an idiot), then we don't care how else you like to spend your time.

Unfortunately, more often than not this isn't the case, so it's not entirely our fault that we have a pretty cynical view of outsiders.

And I don't speak for all PC gamers. I use "we" to refer to myself and others that share my views. Not all PC gamers are like me.

After having a PS3 for years I still can't headshot anyone with analog sticks.

That's my own personal reason for prefering the PC, but the people that can play fps games on consoles have my full and utmost respect. It's hard x_x

I find the pc gamer community to be superior. People who can afford a gaming rig tend to be older and (most of the time) more mature.
Plus I prefer the control scheme for most games I play and I can get better racing wheels as a PC gamer.

There are also other factors like modding, the larger availability of free games, and of course that fact that once I finish my gaming session I can start work on my next paper.

Modding.
Better graphics.
Better controls.
More variety in games.
Cheaper price of games.
Personal expression over their machines.
Better online community (not true in all cases, but they tend to).
Computers are cheaper to game on now opposed to last generation.

Actually half your reasons are debatable depending on personal preferences. I've been gaming for over 25 years on PC's and consoles and from personal experience yes PC games are cheaper but the PC itself is more expensive, considering I get an average lifespan that's similar for both, around 5 years. You can get better graphics, but only if you have the right specs to run the game. Yes you get a more personal experience and you can mod your games, but with few exceptions I've never really cared about modding there are other gamers that probably don't care either. Which has better controls depend on the person, FPS for examples: I like PC controls, hate them on the PS3, and love the 360 for them. Variety of games is very debatable, especially in the last decade. As for the gaming community, it depends on the forum and who's there. I've see great communities for PC and console games, and I've seen communities that are like watching a group of unsupervised, misbehaved children.

Really nothing. If you have the time, skill, and abilities, you can do anything on a console that you can on a PS3. Hell, I could buy a PS3, strip it, put all the stuff of it in a larger PS2 shell, and for all intensive purposes I have a PS2 thats slightly bigger then normal and does everything a PS3 does.

Actually, if you're really devoted and talented, you can do what my friend did which is make a super console that plays PS3, 360, Wii, and limited PC use.

-Private servers is probably the one thing PC gaming does 100% right, being able to weed out the morons without harming the good players. Console devs should take notes...
-Console gamers don't exactly hand-hold either.
-Yes, there are plenty of helpful PC gamers, that's how I managed to find my favorite TF2 server.
-Yes, there are plenty of butthurt noobs who just quit and blame it on PC Gaming, going "PC GAMING SUCKS"!

-You honestly think the PC community doesn't have it's share of racist, homophobic and generally rude people? Idiots are everywhere, PC gamers have their bunch as well. Yes, Live is worse. But you'd be hard pressed to find ANY place worse than Live. But PC Gaming isn't this holy mecca where only the nicest and smartest go to play, as they would try to make you try to think.
-There's a difference between not accepting idiots and scaring away anyone who isn't already a pro. This difference does not exist in the majority of the PC gaming community

Easy. PCs are more cost effective. I can buy a good $600 PC and do EVERYTHING or i can buy a $600 PS3. Good, but not nearly as functional as a PC. Consoles are for gaming and only gaming. PCs do gaming, word processing, modding, and lots more stuff that consoles don't. Other than that, there is really no difference, save the mouse/keyboard versus controller debate.

and no you dont need to upgrade your pc every year cause games are held back by the consoles. i havent upgraded my pc in a few years now and im still running games like DA2 etc at max settings.

I mean for pc, there is just more verity in the games, with Consoles i find it fun to Multi-player games(Not Online but Split screen and Rock band).. I just bust out my console for Social gatherings and Events.

I never understood why people say the pc is so much better. Even with fps games, I find that I do so much better with a controller then with a mouse and keyboard. The only real difference Ive found is the better graphics and in my opinion they are not that much better then a console, they're better yes, but in some cases not by much. I never cared much for mods much either so I guess I just not the pc type. Don't get me wrong I love playing games on my pc, but since something like Portal 2 is coming out for Xbox 360 as well as pc I'm not even going to bother with it on the pc

No, i haven't upgraded my rig in half a decade. still kicking ass at ultra settings. That is a myth to scare people against the "big bad computers."

I concur... I havent upgraded since '08 and i can run everything but Crysis 2 on ultra

- No, of course the PC community has its bad apples too, the difference is we usually aren't forced to play them by matchmaking systems that pretend to be about convenience but are really about control and forcing everyone into one big pool so the game appears more populated. You can't escape those people in a game like CoD6 (MW2 for those of you that haven't had the pleasure of playing MechWarrior 2)
- The big scary mask is just a filter. Some people will be intimidated, and some people will be intrigued.
- Yeah, but that just relates back to the whole "we have bad apples too" thing. I never claimed our overall community was perfect, the difference is we have the option of making our own sub-communities and our games support that choice.
