Most things.

On the internet, overreaction is the norm. I find working up the energy to "hate" something tiring and ineffectual.

Of course you can dislike some things, I certainly do. However, if I even talk about them at all, I state my reasons for not liking whatever thing and then I move on.

Nickleback. I like their stuff, and their live shows are pretty cool. Yet just about the entire internet acts as if the band is worse than ass-fucking a child using a dead cat as a condom while beating up women. And then throwing up in their face. They get a disgusting amount of hate, and most of the time, there isn't even a legitimate reason aside from 'because they are as bad as "ass-fucking a child using a dead cat as a condom while beating up women.". I, honestly, have yet to hear a serious reason why people consider them the scourge of the music industry, especially when something like Nicki Minaj (SP?) is more popular.
With this in mind, what's everyone's issue with Nicki Minaj?

I mean, she releases two of the best pop songs of the whole year, but you release one hilariously bad rap song (that never made it to radio) and suddenly, everyone calls for your head.
Her music is shallow. I'm not talking about the sound of her music (Since she herself doesn't actually make the noises), but the content of her songs. I've heard four songs from the radio once, and each of them seemed very...self focused and uncaring. I didn't pay enough attention to the names of the songs, or have yet to look anything else of hers up, but of those four songs, not one of them seemed every remotely worth...well, existing.

Granted, one can say this about any band simply because they don't agree with the message of the song, but there has to be a line drawn. In a Nickleback song, man breaks up with woman. He either wants her back, or moves on. IN a Nickie Minaj song, man breaks up with woman, he's the biggest dick even though it sounds like she kind of deserved it and he wasn't happy, but it's okay to go around and sleep with his friends and whatnot.

That's my problem with Minaj, but I can't speak for everyone else. I dunno, maybe it's because she's black? (I kid, I kid...)
I can't think of any songs where she sings about that, actually. The ones I'm talking about are Starships (party song) and Pound The Alarm (darker party song), and the rest of her songs are either dissing Li'l Kim (Stupid Hoe) or bragging about how awesome she is (Moment 4 Life, Beez In The Trap). I didn't know she did break-up songs.

At any rate, I'm MUCH more sonically driven in my music, while many people are lyrically driven, so while I'll agree that Nickelback's "This Is War" is excellent, I still say that Nicki Minaj is really damn awesome, assuming she's singing and not rapping.

Flamus Erectus!

George Lucas.

I can understand some of the vitriol, primarily because yes, he could just do with releasing the unedited original trilogy, but give it a fucking rest. The other day there was a fucking thread crying because, oh boo-hoo George Lucas let someone else do an animated piss-take of Star Wars and didn't treat it like the gospel, and oh boo-fucking-hoo, there's an animated TV series aimed at kids.

Oh boo-hoo, TFU 1/2 were shit - that George Lucas, what a massive twat, eh? What with all that intricate involvement he had with the project. I even read someone moaning about something in SWTOR the other day and blaming him for it! A modicum of perspective wouldn't go amiss.

And I say all this as an avid Star Wars fan.

Lil Wayne. He, along with Soulja Boy (who I have mixed feelings about) are the go-to guys for "why hip hop is bad" or "why hip hop isn't good anymore" and I honestly have no idea why. The excuses people give are just awful. "He raps about money and bitches" Yeah? So? Wait, that was your point? What is this obsession people have with the TOPIC of lyrics over the actual EXECUTION of them? Tons of songs with political relevance or psychological insight have atrocious lyrics just as tons of songs about money, bitches and "how great I am" are wonderful. Lil Wayne, guys, sure he raps about himself all the time but the metaphors and the punchlines are sublime. I love a good lyric and Lil Wayne is a guy who delivers. "He's a bad rapper" is another one that's brought up. People often confuse "slow rapping" with "bad rapping" which underestimates the genre (and vocals in music) as a whole. It seems very shallow to seek out technical proficiency alone above distinctness and how emotive the performance is. I can't point to Bob Dylan enough here. It's moot anyway since he actually is a pretty good rapper. Admittedly he flamed out around 2008 and has been sort of mediocre since then but that 2003 - 2008 run was bulletproof. Another victim of the Call of Duty effect, I suppose.
One word. Rebirth. He discovered auto-tune, thought he could sing, and pretty much stopped rapping. I call it the Drake effect. His output for almost half a decade has been pretty consistently awful... The bad just outweighs the good so much, he is probably one of the worst hip-hop artists out. And soulja boi, as far as I can tell, is just technically, lyrically, bad.

My favorite "song" remains "untitled [rhubarb]", by Aphex Twin, which consists almost entirely of flutes, no vocals.

As for Nicki, I'll further state that I like "Moment 4 Life", and she has a good guest verses, and that her appearance on "Dance (Ass)" by Big Sean was absolutely amazing in the same way that Troll 2 is. But her latest efforts at rapping (Stupid Hoe and Beez in the Trap) ruined her rapping skills in general to me. By all means, keep listening to her, I'll just listen to someone else rap.

Was gonna say Nickelback, but that was clearly been done in some detail already, oops...

so, Fall Out Boy. I think Patrick Stump is a hell of a singer-songwriter, some of their songs are really, really good. Everyone just seems to never get past the whole 'emo-poster-boy' thing they had going on with Pete Wentz.

Yeah, I've got to go with the Star Wars films. Seems like everytime something new happens with Star Wars there is violent rage running rampid through the internet community. At this point I have trouble remembering the last time something new with Star Wars had anyone excited.

I remember that one song from soulja boy from when I was in highschool

YOOOOUUU! JDKLFJDKLFJKDJF SOULJA BOY!....YOOOOOOUUUUUUU! MNXCM,VDSJFHJFH SOULJA BOY!

it was not even pleasant to listen too...most pop is bad but still catchy/pleasant

my problem with lil wayne is his voice...in rap I feel part of the apeal is how pleasant their voice is to listen too....ok sure Eminem had this nasaly little whine thing going on but it worked when he was "slim shady" (without me, my name is, real slim shady)

and Kanye's voice isnt the best but his saving grace is his production (and somtimes solid lyrics)

good lyrics cant save lil wayne for me....and Drake is just as bad

For the same reason everyone mentions Ghost Rider when talking about Nicolas Cage: It's inexplicable and positively ruinous.

To be fair, the song becomes pretty hilarious if you take it as Nicki having a fit of total frustration in her garden.

I'm going to be THAT guy and say the Mass Effect 3 ending.

I honestly do not understand why there is that much hate flung toward it. It may have been bad, it may have been totally absymal, but when it's 6 months on and I still see people bitching about it, I can't help but feel like everyone is overreacting. So what if there were plot holes? Lots of stuff has plot holes, but this stuff is forgotten about in less than a week. Especially since the EC was released, people should just bloody move on.
ahh! another one!

please....stop....I before I do somthing awful

why do COD enthusiasts get flamed so much?
Because so many people copy CoD's formula, people get sick of the formula and eventually blame the original.

There's more to it then that, but that is the short answer.

I think it's more that they aren't punk anymore. I don't understand it either, I think their most recent 3 albums are far better than their earlier work. My favorite of which is warning which is their least popular album.
Also their new albums coming out over the next few months are looking awesome.
As a member of the punk community, I can give the reason pretty clearly. Green Day was never a political band... until politics became popular. It's kind of bullshit for them to become wildly popular on a political platform when bands that had been doing it the whole time remained obscure. It was a huge lyrical change in response to an increase in political interests of people in general and especially mid and late teens(demographics with disposable income).

Anita Sarkeesian!

*Erects anti-shitstorm bunker*

Sure she could probably go about what she's doing witha tad more grace and efficiency but seriously wtf, guys? You could go around what you do with a hell of a lot more grace...

Hypothetically if a woman told you rape was wrong would threaten to rape them.
If someone said they felt a certain demographic had been misrepresented and that maybe people could be a bit better about it would you then rape them.
If someone expressed they had strong feelings towards something and that they wanted like minded people to contribute to helping get that opinion out there would you make a flash game in which you beat them bloody?
If someone said something you didn't like but that didn't effect you in the least would you try and ruin their lives?

Everyone who took part in that whole anti-Anita extremist... Thing makes me sick!

(Also dat ass, that rack, them lips those games!)
Seriously. I hate how people accuse her of being a scam artist too. She planned on making a video with $7,000 in production value, and now she has the raw resources to make something 25 times as expensive, and everyone on the internet is waiting to watch her video and consider it representative of the entirety of feminism forever and for all time. Gee, maybe this is the sort of project whose ambition pushes the release date back a bit? Valve is applauded, rightfully, for pushing release dates back in favor of a better quality final product, but when a feminist does it, its a scam. When a game company takes customer input, they are applauded for listening to their audience, but when she asks her audience for input, shes accused of avoiding work. Its rather infuriating, especially when the topic being addressed is such an important issue that maybe gamers could use a pair of fresh eyes on, rather then ruminating over it on internet forums for a million and a half posts.

And for the love of God, pointing out that Ico has some sexist themes is not the final condemnation of Ico as a game for all time. Ico HAD some sexist themes, probably accidentally, and questioning those themes can only bring about insight.

Muse are also getting a lot of hate at the moment, probably for the same reason as Linkin Park. I personally really like their new stuff.

Megaman 7: It's a solid game. There are quite a few hidden things that are really cool,it looks slick and is still really fun.Plus S.Adept is cool as hell.Yet it's despised by so many,Heck Brentalfloss takes a half of his Megaman 2 video to bash it.
YES! YES! YES! /thread YOU ARE CORRECT SIR!

Seriously, Megaman 7 gets waaaay too much undeserved hate. Sure, there was burst man... but what about Freeze Man?! That guy by himself is more fun to fight than any of the bosses in the prior three megaman games. Plus, the game looks slick as hell and there's even a 16-bit remake floating around out there for purists. It's just a great game that really gets no love.
Indeed this. 7 is my favorite after 3 and 2 in the core series. An extremely good game in my opinion and I have no idea why people hate it so much. I thought the bosses were cool, and I like to think I have pretty discerning taste about that sort of thing. I love the art-style too. I've played through all of them many times and seven still stands out to me.

Everything else I can at least understand why someone might hate it. I genuinely can't fully understand why people dislike this game. Now 8. 8 is a different story.

Madden. I don't like the games, but what harm does it do if people buy it each year? For that matter, is CoD and Madden ruining YOUR gaming experience? I still see games like Mirror's Edge and Enslaved being made, so I guess they aren't "destroying gaming" like some people make it sound like.
