in the words of the late, great George Carlin:
"there are no "bad" words. for example, ******. ****** is not a bad word, you should not worry about the word ******, what you SHOULD worry about is the racist piece of shit SAYING the word!"
^pretty much my thoughts

things are too PC nowadays (at least in the US). try moving to Germany, walking into a public school, and DEMANDING that you be taught in English (or whatever your native tounge... except German, that wont work in this example... lol) because you REFUSE to learn German. you will get your ass laughed out of there. try it here in the states, and they kiss your ass because they dont want one ignorant person to offhandedly label them a "racist" for not accomidating their ignorance.

I love my country, but this PC bullshit is getting out of hand. preventing racism is one thing. but not allowing students to say the pledge of allegience (IN THE USA) because it might "offend" someone, is just fucking stupid.

During the First World War, it was popular to rename things that had German names to something more patriotic (in Britain the Saxe-Coburgs became the Windsors, for example), often replacing German sounding names with "Freedom".

Anyway, since the French was opposed to the US invasion of Iraq, a Republican decided that all use of the word "French" on menus at the House of Representatives should be replace with "Freedom", thus, "Freedom Fries" (and also, apparently, "Freedom Toast, which nobody seemed to notice").

The French (and much of the rest of the world) basically facepalmed and asked the US to pay attention to more serious issues.

Personally, I think "Freedom Fries" is an awesome idea, but only if you say it very loudly while posing in a cape.

The rape/murder thing was originally abad taste parody of his style, which became an internet meme, and people who weren't in on the "joke" believed it.

Newspapers like The Daily Mail and The Sun make up bullshit stories like that all the time, just to enrage their racist readers.
At the time of the World Cup, The Sun told some story about how Muslims are offended by the English flag and shirts and that they were banning them from pubs (and probably "they want to bomb you" was in there somewhere). The real story was ONE police officer advised a pub manger against people wearing England shirts to stop all the arguments between any England and the other teams fans. Or something to that degree.
Queue the, "Fucking Muslims, our benefits are good enough for them, but our flag isn't!", "They should fuck off back to their own country!", "I'm a dumb fuck who believes everything I read in the paper because my IQ is below 50!!"

It's not as bad as people think; most of these PC stories are just completely exaggerated.

anyway at the end of the Report on Television the news reader had to say 'This wasnt made to offend Vegetarians' that was the gist of it, ive been looking for the report for a while. ANYWAY i really hate that, i understand that they have to clarify but they shouldn't have too. Is everyone so paranoid that if we all have to say nothing mean about a Minority otherwise get sued By the Political Correctness people.

Its the Same with 'Bah Bah Black Sheep' if i said this in a classroom im a Racist.

[Just to clarify im not trying to be offensive or rude. Its just a Observation.]

The Goody two shoes just need to bloody get over them selves.

What are your thoughts on Political Correct people?\
do you think they go to Far?

I reckon people are way to concreted about Political Correctness. I dont Mind the guys/gals its just they can go to far.

Here is Visual Aids

i agree somewhat with this guy not fully but bits i agree with
OK, you really need to learn not to beleive everything you read/watch. The whole baa baa black sheep story boiled down to one nursery in England thinking it would be a good idea to change it to rainbow sheep, and then cycle through the different colours, in order to increase their vocabulary. The right wing press in the UK distorted the story and used it as a case of 'political correctness gone mad', as a way of attacking left wing politicians.

The story seems to rear it's head again every few years, and lately it seems to have popped up in Australia proving that Australians really are 20 years behind the rest of the world, even when it comes to hysterical right wing tabloid nonsense.

As for Glenn Beck, take this opportunity to do some research on the guy. You will probably enjoy it, the guy is a lunatic. Here's some stuff from Charlie Brooker to start you off:

As for political correctness in general, while you might be able to come up with the odd case of it going too far, you have to agree that it's a positive force in general. Some of us are old enough to remember the days before political correctness became a real focus and the world was not a good place to be. Well, it was for heterosexual white men like myself I suppose, but it pretty much sucked for everyone else. You'd be amazed at the overt racism that was going on, just look up any British sitcome from the 70s to see what I mean.

Here's some more good stuff on political correctness:

And MovieBob did a good piece a while ago which I couldn't work out how to embed:

Ah, the ol' bah bah black sheep is racist debate...

Interestingly enough this came up in conversation over dinner last night, apparently it's 'bah bah rainbow sheep' now.

My two points about this is this:

Number one: Political Correctness has gone mad. Bah Bah Black sheep is a song about an amimal not alogory to fuel racism. Making a big deal out of it causes more problems than it solves, especially when the PC crowd is basically saying black is wrong (think about it...). If it was 'Bah Bah White Sheep' no one would have said anything I would gusss.
I never thought anything about the song when I was little except that it was about a sheep whose wool is black. Y'know like the sheep whose wool is black out in the fields.

Number two: I agree, people need to stop worrying about offending other people. At the same time groups of people need to not appear to be easily offended. Often it's a minority that speaks for the collective and this really needs to be fixed. If more people said 'hay, we're not bothered by X, Y, Z' then people will stop living in fear that when someone slips and says 'mankind' not 'humanity' they're not about to be ripped apart.

Technically yes, in the manner that those with the biggest guns get to decide what's legal.
The biggest guns, or the cunning use of flags.

If you get that reference, I love you.

You've sighted one thing. And from the new coverage about this issue that we got in Australia, that was never mentioned, and it wasn't changed here (reason being obvious now), I never bothered to look into it, cause I don't care.

So, do you have a reason behind the other 2 things I sighted that you claimed I was wrong about? Or did you over react to the one thing and decide that meant all of them were wrong?

Being politically correct isn't that shit, it's just being polite. I don't call black people "wogs" or "niggers" just like I don't call anybody a "fuckhead" or a "****" (at least not at first). Most of the extreme political correctness people hear about is made up anyway, for example that Baa baa black sheep myth. News companies saying it isn't meant to cause offense is just them covering their ass from people who write in to complain. They don't have to say it by law, they're just avoiding any idiots that misunderstand the context. It's nothing to do with political correctness. Of course what Glann Beck is right to say that there's no reason to ban the word alien, because he is taking an extreme case to denounce all other future arguments.

As a father of a handicapped child he probably wouldn't like the kid to be called a "spastic" because it is an insulting term. THAT is political correctness.

You seem to have mistaken me for mr_rubino.

IIRC, it was mentioned in Australia, maybe only on shows like the Glass House or the Panel, though, it was one of the better reasons to laugh at the Bush administration, much better than those "jokes" along the lines of "Bush is stupid, amirite? And Howard agrees with him lots, lol".

[small]Also, it's "cited", not "sighted"[/small]

Notably, though, that used to be the PC term. They have to keep changing the terms for things which are going to be used as insults, because people keep turning them into insults. Likewise, "retarded" and "special". I can envisage people dropping the term "special forces" in the future, when "special" becomes set in stone as an insult.

No it?s just the OP and while can?t speak for the rest of Australia this topic has never been brought up in Queensland.
Actually, it was, by one isolated nursery in the far north, as I recall.

Anyways, Australia is only about 15 years behind the US, they've only had Fox News for about that long.

Yes and the new word that replaced it was "handicapped", note how he uses that rather than spastic. The technical term for somebody with downs syndrome was mongoloid and that's not in use any more. The language we use should be updated and made to move with the times rather than be stuck in the mud with original meanings because frankly in my head gay means homosexual, not happy. So basically, yes it keeps changing and that's fine.

I don't think special would become like that because its other meaning is still in frequent use as either different or exceptional.

Bah bah black sheep =Bah bah rainbow sheep
French fries = Freedom fries
Illegal aliens = Undocumented citizens

This is just getting stupider and stupider

I hope the Earth facepalms itself and wipes out the people who keep doing this in the process.
Freedom fries is completely unrelated to PC (even more un-so than the other two examples), you uninformed sack of- *so so so very banned*.
Was that even remotely necessary? I cannot fathom how someone who believes they are intellectually superior (whether in one topic or many), needs to resort to insults.

The stench of maturity on the internet. My day is complete.
And yet, at the end of the day, you're still wrong, and clearly have no desire to be otherwise. ^_^ Like Beck and the rest of them, you prefer to base your beliefs around pithy anecdotes and catchy slogans. Think with the heart, G.
(Honestly, the kind of nonsense that is tolerated on these boards is staggering.)
Rather than tell me I'm wrong, and make pathetic attempts to insult me, perhaps you could elaborate? I pride myself on expanding my knowledge and correct things I am misinformed about. Your assumption that I've no desire change my opinion is more uninformed than anything I've said here.
If you knew me at all, which being a forum in which I've had no extended interactions with anybody, you do not, you'd know that my beliefs are not based on anecdotes, slogans or anything other such thing. And everything I do is based around logic, not what I may or may not feel in my heart.
Further more, if you don't like how the boards are moderated, leave. It's that simple.
If you don't blah, then blah. Yes yes, the favorite argument of Escapisteers. Nothing can ever be improved. Nothing needs to be. Intellectual dishonesty is its own reward.
You're telling me you work on logic and you come down on the "PC run amok! Here are some non-examples" side? I'm unconvinced.

There's really no need to elaborate. I said exactly what needed to be said:
One example is, as pointed out multiple times, made up from whole-cloth. Nothing to add.
One example is completely irrelevant, rolled into PC by people who complain about ANY neutral-sounding word, even infrequently-used, to describe things they don't like.
One is real, and has nothing to do with PC. The fact you even connected it to PC shows you are completely uninformed as to its origins and quite willing to shout "PC run amok!" at anything. Question: In your mind, who was "freedom fries" meant to avoid offending?

(Assumption: You'll ignore the truth because you think I'm being mean. You'll eventually be forced to admit reality trumps cozy rhetoric... and then say "Well these examples might not be real... but this stuff happens all the time everywhere because of our PC culture. You know it and I know it.")

100% undeniable fact. Anyone that tells you otherwise is lying. They have two thumbs on each hand!

But they sleep over 20 hours a day on average so don't worry too much.

Also, they never drink water!

People will try to convince you that they're harmless but they all work in tourism and need you lot to come over here. It's like the people who say "don't worry about the snakes, they're only in the desert!"
What about the coastal taipan? 3rd most deadly snake[footnote]source[/footnote] in the world!

But yes, Drop bears exist.
I feel like an idiot. But I deserve this. Keep these comments coming, my head is already covered in vegomite and I've currently been sticking to open areas...

wait... what if a drop bear got onto the undercarriage of aircraft. JESUS CHRIST! they could fal lfrom anywhere!

Time to start avoiding main flightpaths as well.
Funny thing is, all the things I said are true. Google Koala, then go look around you'll find I'm not lying about any of it. They're 4 thumbed, stoners, who sleep all day, and never drink any water.
