Its of course the new final fantasy xiv. Thanks partly to the ffxiv group we have on here its been alot of fun Im currently a level 12 pugilist and am working toward being a monk. theyve made it alot more fun and sociable than if id a hopped in and joined some random group. so yeah its alot of fun and I dont have to play ungodly hours to get the most out of it. I even prefer the subscription model because it keeps the paywalls at bay and hope it stays this way as the game is alot more fun when its the gameplay that gets me new armor and items and not a constant knawing for my wallet. It also doesnt take 500 weeks to level unlike ftp mmos so thats good. anyway yeah its awesome and if anyones thinking of playing they should.

also the game runs great now and i havent had any slowdown in a week. also waits for a server might be at best 2 minutes if at all.

Id like to note that before this I shy'd (sp?) away from most mmos or got bored super quickly. that list includes guild wars 2, 3 tries with eve online, runescape and ragnarok online 2 all failed to keep my attention not too mention the countless others whos worlds were just boring to me like world of warcraft. Mightve gotten into lord of the rings online but I never tried.(tolkiens world always felt empty to me from watching the movies anyway.)

May I ask where this Escapist group is and can I have permission to join? I only played for roughly 2 hours so I can easily reroll to another server. I dislike playing the game alone so I quickly logged off when my friend wanted to play co op in another game. I started as a lancer but would like to probably go off as a tank eventually.

I'm actually pretty curious too. I started on NA-Siren with an Archer but I'm only about 9 or 11 I think.

I'll try it if it goes FTP. I rarely stick with an MMO long enough to merit even a one month subscription & will put $60 in microtransactions into the ones that can keep me entertained for at least that long (sofar there have been only 6 out of the 45 I've tried).

We're on Malboro, all. We'd love to have new members. Our FC is named Escapism, and everyone's Lodestone is linked on the main page of the group here: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Final-Fantasy-XIV-A-Realm-Reborn

So look for anyone of us online and we can send you an invite. Miyenne Ambrai is on often crafting, so check for her first.

I'm on and off a lot during the day as I don't work (I really should though, inheritance doesn't last forever unfortunately and I haven't managed to bag a husband that would let me play housewife...) so you can message me (Miyenne Ambrai) or check out any of our lodestones for an invite.

None of us are hardcore players. No one's near level cap, except Rhel who's not on much, and otherwise Sam and my crafting jobs are higher than our main classes.

As long as you're willing to contribute to the company it's all good. We all help each other out.

Don't praise it too much until you've gotten a character to higher levels. I really loved it too, at first, but after level 35 it went downhill quickly. Pushed to 40 and haven't played it since. Can't really stand the Asian style grind.

Personally LOTRO is my favorite MMO. Just a pity it gets worse by each expansion... Had they kept the standard of Mines of Moria it would've been impossible for me to tear away from the game.

Yeah I'm not looking forward to all that end game stuff, which is odd as I was a hardcore raider back in the early days of wow.

But it's fun to craft and chat and run through lower level instances with everyone. And many of us are very excited about housing coming up - we're hopefully going to buy a Free Company house when we can. They're adding more content to the game soon.

And myself, I'm on a griend to get my Goldsmith to 50 (I'm 46 right now) and Leatherworker to 50 too (in my 20s) so I can make all the fancy Goldsmith clothes which are a tribute to Lock Cole's outfit. I need a 50 Goldsmith, weaver and leatherworker to make all the pieces as I'm not paying close to a million gil for the set. Sam's character has a 40ish weaver too we're slowly grinding up.

I'm more excited about Goldsmith than I am finishing leveling my bard which is only 39 right now. And I'll use that and my miner (40 right now) to make loads of gold, as I want a pretty house dammit! I may want my own house on top of the company's house, and houses are rumored to be millions of gil, which will take some time to make.

End game zones are so crowded and laggy, full of elitest jerks who only want people in full Darklight to run the dungeons you have to run to get Darklight and better... And it's just a serious grind. But if we all do it together and not pug it, it'll be fine.

Have to say enjoying the game so far. On Goblin NA at the moment due to no European servers were up at the time.

Level 50 paladin(tank) I like the fact dungeons have mechanics in it unlike World of Warcraft where you would have to wait for raiding for that to start.

Also first MMO Iv'e enjoyed leveling, Fates from level 35-50 make the journey quite quick if you want to speed level however i found a balance between quests an d fates and dungeons was more fun if be slower paced.

Also I have found the community much nicer than wow for the moment that may change in the raiding scene though.

I think the game is pretty fun. I just downed Titan (story) and the Temple of Qarn and those two instances have some pretty solid mechanics for a mid-level fights. It's also a lot of fun to plug a controller into my computer and just recline while running a dungeon. The game is gorgeous and UI, while sometimes counter-intuitive, seems to deliver once its properly setup.

I am a little disappointed in how many invisible walls line the map and that the zones are mainly just linear valleys. Furthermore, the leveling system is built around grinding FATES, but there are too many people running them at the moment and, besides the XP and seals, they are completely pointless. In Rift or Guild Wars 2 failing a world event means the npcs take over a region or town, in FFXIV the mobs just despawn and all you lose is your time. I'm also not a fan of the 2.5s global cooldown, it really interrupts the flow of comabt. It's incredibly frustrating when trying to interrupt a mob and it is reminiscent of the old NES FF where mobs and players took turns whacking each other. I could maybe tolerate it if my character looked like he was doing something during the pause, but he mostly just bobbles up and down.

Overall, it is a pretty decent title but I expect given the fundamental design limitations of the engine (slow GCD) and limited world exploration the audience for this game will taper significantly after the honeymoon period wanes. It's incredibly easy to level quickly in this game (fun!), but once you hit the late 20s/early 30s the futility of FATE grinding becomes obvious and it becomes easy to go do something else.

The game director said he'd pull the plug if things don't go well. So I wouldn't get your hopes up. Personally I'm happy to pay the subscription, seeing as I hate F2P paywalls. Also the 2.1 patch is coming soon with some major additions like the Crystal Tower dungeon, and that's just a patch.

Anyway, glad to hear people are enjoying the game. Even with the endgame being full of angry players who rushed.

Ok I am really tempted to get the game but not having a lot of spare time has held me back however I may give it a go as my PC can actually run it decently apparently which surprised me.

Have the initial problems been resolved though? I dont want to buy it and find I can log in.

I have a lvl 12 Lancer right now. Loving the game minus the massive amount of furries and weeaboos.

It's all about the friends you play with. If you have a consistent, fun group almost any mmo or coop game for that matter will be loads better. Glad you found a place where you and your friends can kill some monsters, explore a world and get stronger together.

One thing though. You found Tolkien's world empty?..............Does not compute.

I'm trying to, but I really just can't enjoy it. The combat is just too damn horrible. On some classes it just feels utterly clunky and on others it's just boring.

The crafting / gathering mechanics are pretty cool...though they are slow as balls, hopefully thats to make the payoff worthwhile when it hits end game, I bloody hope so but somehow I doubt it.

Another thing that really hinders it for me is the fact that for an MMO it feels quite small.

But yeah, honestly I know I've just ragged on it a bit but I am genuinely glad to know someones enjoying it.

Friends want to get me into it, but living in a location with an 860kbps connection speed stretched across four frequent users tends to be asking too much of... well pretty much anything nowadays.

There's your problem. The movies were terrible, Jackson removed any and all traces of lore from his interpretations.

Read the books. Read the Silmarillion.

That was a damn good game despite many people not liking it for some reason. I stopped playing after I ran out of free stuff to do (even grinded turbine points for a week straight so I could buy Forochel and Evendim)but it was the only mmo I have ever played in which I cared about the story. I read the dialogue and couldn't wait to get to the next story quest.
