I never understood the purpose of live-action game trailers in general. 'Look at us trying to reenact the game in real life -- Doesn't that just make you wanna buy it?' No. No it doesn't. Seeing what the game actually looks like does.

Anyway, this trailer is just trying to appeal to the online shooter crowd, hence the "attitude". Call of Duty trailers pull the same shit. It's annoying, but I never expose myself to it, so no harm done.
What's worse, I didn't even realize this was a live action trailer. Whatever else may be true, CGI animation has reached practically full photorealism, and it's even harder to notice when you don't see the characters' faces. The whole trailer is so smothered in artifice anyway, from the environment to the enemies, that it might as well have been all CG.

OT: i always find it funny when people complain about games they've never played. I mean WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT DESTINY? In the new dlc they added a little characterisation of the NPCs and a little funny dialog.
I know that my Guardian doesn't have a single new line of dialog in the new expansion, and this is despite the fact that they re-recorded what little dialog the player character has with a different actor. My Ghost acts like he's my mouthpiece.

Cayde-6 is also the only character to get any real characterization, if only because he's voiced by Captain Malcolm Reynolds. Nathan Fillion is entertaining, don't get me wrong, but it comes at almost everyone else's expense.
Are you forgetting Eris Morn? We learn quite a bit about her in the Taken King campaign. I do understand where you're coming from-- Cayde-6 gets top billing in this expansion. In future content, I'd like to see more of Zavala[footnote]"Yes... thank you for your input, Eris."[/footnote] and Ikora Rey, as Lance Reddick and Gina Torres are fantastic.

Well I liked it. Track didn't fit, but I can't off the top of my head think of a trailer with licensed music where the track did fit. Other than that we got a cool action sequence and a showcase of a bunch of the new stuff in TTK (armor sets, guns, enemies, Oryx, ect.). The writing wasn't the best thing ever but 1. Its a commercial, I don't expect much and 2. Its hard to take complaints about smug quips seriously when its coming from this fourm.

These trailers show that Bungie/Activision/Call of Duty devs are aware of the kind of attitude that the players have within the games, but it just seems like poor marketing to me when they advertise their games like the trailer above, and then have the game be all "DARKNESS! EVIL! WAR! ALIENS! SERIOUSNESS!".

Fucking own it. One way or the other.
Except this trailer really does capture the attitude of TTK. Sure the game has its dark crescendo moments, but outside that much of the dialogue is either neutral tone or humor, and the overall theme of the game is starting from the worst point and pushing back the darkness, more about hope than SRZ BIZNEZ. Its actually refreshing in a time where games seem fucking obsessed with being all grimdark and hopeless.

Oh, good lord. This is A-grade cringe-fuel. Certainly not the worst video game trailer ever, but that's not much of a complement. It's just trying so hard to have this air of charming flippancy about the characters' attitudes, but it just comes off as the work of a bunch of bean-counters in an office somewhere. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old bastard, but I can't stand these stupid unfunny quips.

Also, I had no idea this was live action. It looks so much like a pre-rendered trailer that I can't even tell, which, if anything, is at least some praise of the overall quality of CGI trailers these days.

Borderlands as written by Joss Whedon's worst aspects as a writer?
Shit son, you ain't wrong. No rage from me, just cringe... pure cringe.
Except that would probably be rather brilliant, but whatevs. Also "worst aspects"? What are these 'worst aspects' people speak of...

Trailer: the tone of Destiny's ads have always been off putting, but then again so has the game so I suppose it's fitting.

Trust me you are not the only one, I stopped caring about Destiny the moment it came out only on consoles, and then I dismissed it entirely when it turned out the game was a boring grind-fest with no story or real content, not even talking about the developers being arrogant pricks, the trailer was just the icing on the shit cake, I was just sitting their like "Yeah real serious Sci-fi here guys..." I mean seriously? Borderlands has better one liners BORDERLANDS! Feh...I just sat and rolled my eyes whenever that stupid trailer came on...
