Stupidest thing I've been insulted for? Uhhh... The insults that go to my last name usually outshine any others, although at one point I was laughed at for listening to a generic metal song. For those interested:

Surprisingly, I haven't taken any flak because people think DH is generic, but my family does rib me a little because I like heavy metal, but it's all in good fun. Besides, I'm slowly converting them, at least to DH.

The stupidest thing I've been insulted/chided for usually goes something like this:

"OMG you don't have a iPhone? WHYNOT??!?"
"Because, I don't want one."
"OMGYOUDON'TWANTANiPHONE?? WHYNOT!! YOUR STUPID!!"

I'm exaggerating a little, but you get the gist.

You should think about what your supporting before you buy. If your supporting the get lady gaga drunk fund maybe you should spend your money elsewhere.

You can get any song you want on the radio? I'm not suggesting that you are wrong but that is well and truly news to me.

I get insulted for being a Lolita Dress wearing Japanese Music Listening, Video Game playing, Manga Reading Otaku
Oh and I read books too
I pay good money for my stuff I support everything I like and the one thing I've learned is too hell with everyone else I'll just be myself and be happy
Then again my friends look at me weird when I tell them I'd rather pay for a game than hack the game into a system.
I salute you, for what that is worth.

OT: I get insulted because I am from Kansas and yet am smarter than most big-city folk, I actually purchase my entertainment, and refuse to drink alcohol simply to become intoxicated.
My otaku/geek side is something people no one really cares about.
I am from the Big city but I grew up where Ghetto speak is normal and I like to talk like words actually exist and not things that come out of a rap video.

I salute you for not acting like the norm and being yourself!!
Because it's better to be you than to act like every other drone out there!!!

Most money from buying cd's and stuff gets sent to the record label, not the band/artist.
Wanna support them? Go to concerts, and see if they have a donate thing on their website, give em 5 bucks or something, they'll get more money that way than through cd sales.

For reading comics
Oh the rage currently wishing it could burst out right now. I empathise so badly.

Comics are cool goddamnit.

¬.¬
The more general thing happened/happens in real life (the person realized a huge, hardcover volume can hurt like hell), but I mentioned reading Transformers here, and a guy mocked me. I ripped his argument (Transformers are gay) into shreds, and destroyed it. (it was one of my earliest escapist posts)
In real life, I was surprised someone actually mocked my Deadpool comic. I tend not to care what most people think, but seriously? You thought Deadpool was nerdy?
Oh, and I remembered something else I was made fun of:
For being intelligent. I kid you not. I was mocked for being too smart. I strangled him with telekinesis, as I heated my coffee up by thinking of fire (cookie for reference).

What is the primary method in which bands have to release their music through? Record labels! No record labels = more limited exposure to new artists.

The second part of your post is spot on though. I just don't get why people think record labels aren't important towards getting bands to your ears.

This is a bit of a tangent but are there any really good Deadpool trades to try out? I've always been a DC guy but Deadpool seems like a pretty cool character.

Yeah, I've mentioned it before, but I was loudly mocked from across the street by a group of chavs for the crime of ....reading a book as I walked home.

Literally yelling and mocking laughter along the lines of 'hahaa..look..he's reading...reading a BOOK..hahahaaa!'

You start to pity the world when merely reading invites mockery, and to the OP, merely not committing a criminal act makes you open to abuse also.

You can, just not necessarily at the time you want to hear it. Request shows help.

How do artist even make money anymore? That music you're stealing is somebody else's intellectual property.
If there's music that is horrible and considered shit, is it still considered an intellectual property?

What if I wanted to listen to, for example, Steve Reich's Drumming [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=USRGNr17Jm4] or Iannis Xenakis' Metastasis [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZazYFchLRI]?

I've been reading the new Deadpool comics, but I only buy the volumes, so I'm a little behind. I heard good things about Merc with a Mouth though, and Prelude to Deadpool Corps is a fun one. I also enjoy the Cable and Deadpool books. I personally prefer Deadpool because it's easier to pick up and read Deadpool than some Spiderman or Iron Man versions. And Civil War just scares me.

For trying to learn Chinese. What's wrong with trying to learn the 2nd most popular languange in the world?
For liking metal music.
For having long hair. You have to have something to headbang with.
Because my teeth grew in yellow-ish, kids were convinced I smoked at age 9. (My teeth are better now, I promise).
For disliking beer, though I am getting to like it now...
And my all time favorite...
For being Canadian.

ITT people get insulted by hipsters and for some reason don't just laugh at the hipster and walk off.

Cool, thanks. And yeah, despite being heavily entrenched in DCU lore, I really hate how inaccessible comics are to new readers.

Yeah...
Dont worry, you're not alone. I dont like it either and get insulted for it.

I get insulted cause I read big books. Like, stuff like Stephen King big. Like, 300-400+ pages that are small print, not real margins, and isnt just dribble.

Yes, thats right. I get insulted, because I do extraciricular reading to better myself.
