It doesn't matter if you think it's fair or not, unfortunately life isn't fair. You don't go around insulting police no matter how much they deserve it, this is something everyone seems to understand but you. Learn to swallow your pride and just be polite next time.

Why should he?! Because that officer spent a whole 12 weeks learning to become a better person than him, (as well as learning to make funny sounds and get into shenanigans with Steve Guttenberg). That's why!

So he spent 12 weeks learning how to deny citizens of their Constitutional rights. He's utter scum and has failed in his duty to serve and protect. He should hand himself in for violating this poor 19 year old's right to freedom of speech and freedom from harassment for the authorities.

If you are out of high school, you should know better. That is coming from a guy who has been there and done that probably moreso than anyone else on this forum. Have you ever been arrested with a shotgun pointed at your face? I have. That's when I was 16 and fearless. Now I'm older and learned from my experiences.

And by "illegal if the cop wants it to be" means what you did was illegal, but most cops look the other way because they don't want to fill out the paperwork for such a petty charge. You obviously got one that has a lot of time on his hands.

It was thanks largely to the crowd I was hanging around with. They had pulled armed robbery during the summer of 2001, and about a week after the incident, they got pulled over in a vehicle and I happened to be with them.

Fortunately, I never got caught when it was just me who doing the dirt. I'd be in prison right now for trafficking and distribution of drugs (not marijuana) most likely if I did. The guy I used to get the stuff from just got busted last year as a matter of fact.

Actually, having looked it up, disorderly conduct (in New Jersey) actually includes swearing in public, as well as being insulting to the police.

If that is the way the law is written, then the law abridges freedom of speech and is therefore unconstitutional.

Off-Topic: You heard me. The ACLU is just a Liberal-Atheist organization that has a goal to politically correct everyone and everything and turn us all into a nation of pussies. Know what offends me? Offended people. They don't even need reasoning, all they do is say "this is offensive" and it goes. PCness is a double edged sword, they just choose to ignore certain groups in favor of others to justify their existence.

EDIT: Sorry I misunderstood you. They threatened to sue the county because some Christmas and Hanukkah decorations were (according to them) "unconstitutional". Upon doing some research I quickly discovered that not only were they wrong, but the rights of the people working at the building that had said decorations had their rights technically violated. Like it says above, ignore facts and ignore certain groups in favor of half-truths and other groups.

If it was up to me it would be illegal, but it's probably illegal enough for you get a fine and some warning. What happened to the good old days when people addressed cops as "sir" or "mam?" Nowadays all these kids disrespect cops for no reason other than their egos and when we don't have authority anymore, we'll have anarchy. Anarchy is when people just go around shooting each other and taking whatever they want because they feel like it. We can just tell the cops -"Hey fuck off buddy, I have Amendment rights, can't you see I'm trying to rob the bank here?." Sounds great doesn't it?

This is probably a more interesting summary of what the judge will tell you later. Believe it or not, there are reasons we can't call cops assholes whenever we want!

Am I the only one here to note a difference to being a smart ass to a cop who's trying to help you and one who's being a patronizing dick to you in the first place? Where I live, most of the cops I've met are pricks, not all, but most. If cops are meant to be a mechanism of justice, then it follows that they (or any of us) have no right to be unjust, like profiling or, and I swear this happened once, pulling you over because the nose of your car went just past the white line when you came to a complete stop... not drove past the line, that your nose protruded beyond it by perhaps a foot. The only real weapon that we all share, for attack or defense, is our voice. While I'm not excusing being an a-hole for the fun of it, I do believe it is a fundamental right to stand up for yourself, so in a sense, I agree that it is your constitutional right, when taken into context.
