I really,REALLY dislike anime. but I also see myself as an openminded person, So I'll try to get into it! to help you help m I'll say what I dislike about anime and what I need in a series to like it. the anime series I have tried to watch is:

Neon Genesis Evangelion, Berserk, Full metal alchemist, Naruto, DBZ, Death Note and some other stuff I can' remember!

So, What I dislike about anime is the art style in general(I have started to not hate it so I can watch it), the over the top action scenes (Combat should not be "OMG HE IS THROWING PLANETS AT HIM!!!" it should be fairly "realistic"), the depressing tone of some of them (I want to be entertained not depressed), the girls voices, the girls HH cups, and some other stuff

What I like in a series: A good story that is very well written, characters is really important, humor, the setting must be good (I don't care if it's steampunk or Scifi or fantasy, etc) and lastly I want something that makes you think. (Good humor series don't need anything of the tings I have stated. As long as it's funny)

So, do you accept the challenge?

No, I do not accept the challenge... I was just going to say that it strongly helps if you like the cliches like the over-the-top fighting scenes, ridiculous plots and humor and the strange characters. If none of those appeal to you, then I think you'll have a tough time finding an anime you like. But maybe someone with more experience in anime can tell you otherwise, I only liked a small amount of it myself.

avatar is in a similar art style, but it was made here in the US so you might be able to relate to it more. not sure if its considered an anime or not

also you might give rurouni kenshin a try. His skill level is insanely off the chart, but not his power level/energy attacks

I like cowboy bebop, I think its fairly realistic + spaceships(like airplanes though)

Fucking Outlaw Star!

Interesting characters? Check.
Lack of annoying female voices? Check.
Humour that doesn't detract from the story? Check.
Long enough to be keep you entertained but not so long that 50% of episodes are fillers? Check (25 episodes).
Seriously, this is the first 'proper' anime I ever watched (I don't count DBZ). You won't regret it, it doesn't have an angsty, douchebag undercurrent like a lot of newer anime series.

Anime actually means the style. So you saying that you hate the art in general basicly means you are most likely never like it or like very very little of it.

I'd go Kuroshitsuji if you want an anime (although I'd recommend it to anyone just about) but no promises.

Revy's a little trigger happy, but Black Lagoon might be a good one for you.

I've just found that it's a really easy show for people to watch. Just complex enough to keep you hooked without alienating you.

Watch YuGiOh abridged. If that can't get you into anime at least a little, nothing can.

It's sort of cheating I know but it's what got me into it.

I hope you enjoy it. I'll make one last suggestion with Eden of the East. Yet again, watch it in English. Also, fun fact, the opening song is "Falling Down" by Oasis.

Synopsis: On November 22, 2010 ten missiles strike Japan. However, this unprecedented terrorist act, later to be known as "Careless Monday," does not result in any apparent victims, and is soon forgotten by almost everyone. Then, 3 months later... Saki Morimi is a young woman currently in the United States of America on her graduation trip. But just when she is in front of the White House, Washington DC, she gets into trouble, and only the unexpected intervention of one of her fellow countrymen saves her. However, this man, who introduces himself as Akira Takizawa, is a complete mystery. He appears to have lost his memory, is stark naked, except for the gun he holds in one hand, and the mobile phone he's holding in the other. A phone that is charged with 8,200,000,000 yen in digital cash.

You really aren't going to find much realism in anime; it's very over the top (mostly). They tend to be more character based as well, so quite often, the story takes a back seat. They do have really good characters a lot of the time, but you didn't mention that as what you want out of it. The best example I could give is what is mentioned above: Baccano.

It sounds like you should just read a book really.

I can't help you with anything and from what I know of anime you wouldn't be able to find much of what you were looking for anyway. Most anime tends to be unrealistic just as a part of the genre. ASking for anime with total realism is like asking for a Superman comic with total realism.

My reccomendation, especially for the types of story your recommending, would be to find a good novel. Especially since you said that you dislike the art style anyway, it just doesn't make sense to try and like anime. There's nothing wrong with not liking anime.

Why are you so determined to find an anime you like? I'm very confused.

So you've viewed shows ranging from the biggest mainstream titles like Naruto and DBZ to the shorter and far more unique runs like Berserk and Deathnote and you're still not sold? Sorry to say it, but none of us are going to change your mind. If you've tried to be objective up to this point but still can't get passed the art style, there really isn't anything that anyone can say to sway you. I could write a huge article about depth of characters and intensity of action in my favorite animes because of the long-form format and the possibility for exaggerated action due to not being shot live-action, but ultimately it wouldn't amount to very much if you've actually gone and watched some examples I'd state and didn't see the same thing.

If you don't like something and have given it more than one chance, there's no reason you should subject yourself to more just because it's popular. Nobody can tell you what to think or how.

I submit Kino's Journey. It's 13 episodes, doesn't have a cast that could annoy you, combat is, aside from a tournament (which makes sense in the theme of the series), largely pragmatic and gun/knife based, the settings are important (the plural is important), the protagonist has small boobs, and since the whole premise is varying "countries" playing around with a concept, it's thought-provoking to one degree or another.

You want that? Then one of my favourite shows of all time might be something for you, Cowboy Bebop. Here's some examples of why I love the show:

One of my fav episodes, this fight is in the first 10 mins or so of the episode:
A fight in the Cowboy Bebop movie:
The intro:

Cowboy Bebop is pretty much the anime for anime-haters; has barely, if any, of the animé cliches (weird facial expressions, flashy background stuff, all that crap), well thought out fighting choreography and truly mature storylines, following the adventures and lives of a group of bounty hunters. Not mature as in craploads of gore and all, mind you. It's episodic in nature but has an overarching plot and character development. I mean, the movie was not only released in Western cinemas, it was also a box office success. Go figure y'know, a freakin' anime show based movie doing well in the West.

You might also like Samurai Champloo, it's from the same team as Cowboy Bebop. It's hard to explain Samurai Champloo, it's about 2 samurai becoming indebted to a girl who looks for 'the samurai that smells like sunflowers' and it follows their journey set to an incredible hip hop soundtrack (yes, samurai and hip hop, and it fits) so here's some examples of it:
One of the first fights:
Bit o' soundtrack:

Both these shows:
- Have pretty realistic fight choreography.
- Make you think.
- Avoid female cliches (though Faye, Bebop's lead female, has quite a large bossom, she is still a very good character).
- Have plenty of humour that doesn't distract from the story.
- Have properly fleshed out characters.
- Have solid storylines.

Odd that you didn't like Death Note though, if I remember correctly it too comforms to most of those points.

Loved that, though it is a bit...random. Very random actually, but still good.
