my very existence represents all the horrible things that were done to the superior, and noble native peoples
I don't understand how they are superior to whites when whites from europe conquered how much of the world? The couldn't compete, they deserved what they got.

Go read some World History. Yes, Europeans(and their derived Civilizations in the Western Hemisphere) did some pretty horrible things in the last 500 years, not mention the last century, but it's not like the rest of the world was clean and harmonious before European contact. Pretty much every culture has oppressed other or themselves(the ones that aren't oppressive are usually because they live in total isolation or were being oppressed by someone else and thus didn't have much of a chance).

The Europeans ended up taking over large parts of the rest of the world(and to some extent, the US), which is why it stands out a lot more in world history. And I have little doubt that if non-isolationist China or Japan had ended up with a worldwide colonial empire starting 500 years ago, that they wouldn't act a whole lot differently. It would be the Europeans as the oppressed instead of the oppressors.

Basically, Humans are dicks. Skin Color really doesn't matter in this regard.

Personally I'd say your ongoing struggle with derpression (spelling intended) has more to do with your seriously flawed world outlook. Non-caucasian people are not 'superior' to Caucasians. More to the point, no one race is superior, or even different, from another. Ok, sure, so sometimes we're different colors, and sometimes our hair is curly or straight, or sometimes our eyes, hips, noses, feet, whatever, are different shapes, but I've never heard of someone being turned down for a job, or being unable to write a book because their nose was big. In fact, depending on which parts are big, it actually opens up some unique job options, ba dum tish.

Do yourself a favor and understand that 'racial equality' is less a movement or notion and more of a phrase or description, to be taken very literally. We're all made of the same bits on the inside. For instance, you're definitely not the first 'alternative' teen to hit up a forum to be in the spotlight shortly after your livejournal replies dried up.

I kid ;)

Hippy bullshit. Instead of defining yourself by your race, try to define yourself as a person. Don't think you can't be a good person just because you're white. That's just plain stupid.

I'll be blunt here. You're an idiot.

Whatever guilt you may be feeling over the actions of your ancestors or the stupidity of your peers is completely baseless.

Every culture throughout history has committed atrocities on par with, or worse than, any actions committed by whatever European peoples you happen to descend from. With a bit of research, I can pull up any number of examples of slavery, genocide and butchery committed by any race or culture you wish to name.

As for the stupidity of "white culture", there's really nothing to say to that. People as a whole, again regardless of race, are stupid. Any large gathering of people is, by its very nature, limited to the lowest common denominator, and thus is stupid. There's really no difference in that regard than any other race.

Edit: It also needs to be said that "white" history is not nearly as bad as you make it out to be. It seems that way, but that's only because the modern world has been defined by white men, and in some kind of karmic balancing act, all of the negative aspects of such are emphasized and the positive aspects are downplayed. Humanity as a whole is a selfish, ignorant, and stupid creature, it's not limited to any one specific race.

U MAD BRO??

In all seriousness. People think its awesome that I'm Asian; seeing that the food I eat is very unique and delicious, I'm naturally smart, and my culture is more intimate than others.

However, people don't see the difficulties of trying to put up with the strict codes of respect, honor, and submissiveness I have to put up with.

Plain and simple, all cultures suffer from pros and cons of their ethnicity. BUT, you truly are a privileged race, be happy that your culture supports functional families, and mutual understanding of each other, something youths of other cultures WISHED they had.

This isn't part of being "white", this is part of being human.
You're right, all humans must put the sins of their forefathers behind them. However, for a person in North America, many of the great injustices based on race lie with the whites and the scars are still there and showing. Current and past problems around the world do not change the fact that being a white American with a long ancestry means you have to deal with the racial guilt. It's there, it has no place, but it is there.

The OP is trying to understand her race because no one will teach it to her. Racial understanding is important to everyone. A black person living in the suburbs does not have the same social experience as a white person. It is a fact of life and should not be ignored. It should be understood. Nobody wants race to mean anything, but in today's world, it does.

Hate racism? Do something about it. Feel guilty? Help people who need it.

Otherwise get over yourself, accept that you have it better than most people in the world and do what you can to help others with what you were given. Don't let other people make you feel bad because of crap that went down before you were alive, but neither should you excuse racism that happens today.

So basically, be an individual and not a "race," and stop worrying about it.

The poor culture of America is a problem of consumerism, and consumerism crosses all racial lines. Stop attributing negativity in American society to merely white people.

Just to clarify some things. I'm not trolling, I'm a woman, and I haven't replied yet because I'm reading everything and taking it all in. Also what I posted was 100% genuine. That really is how I feel inside. Oh and the whole 'privileged' thing is a component of sadness I feel.

This has been enlightening...really it has. I'll say that in my own experiences reading some history and documentaries and such I gained this idea that 'other cultures' (especially the native noes) were a wonderland of piece and prosperity with a simple life attached to nature. or that unlike like 'white people' they had honor, and traditions that went back to the beginning of time.

I guess in a way I've been concentrating on one thing so much it's warped my own view of myself...and the skin I live in....

I'm still listening...perhaps learning as well...

If you want to see history of honor and tradition of white people look towards Europe. We have countless traditions many over a thousand years old and regarding the so called "simple life attached to nature" just look at how the natives in America hunted bisons. They drove whole herds of them over cliffs, picked the best bits out of the carcasses and left most of the remains lying there wasted (except for what the scavengers ate).

What you must remember that all cultures have their share of atrocities (slavery, genocide, mass rapes and other such lovely things have been the stable of almost all cultures for a very, very long time) AND more importantly most cultures have a rich history of honor, tradition and art. You just need to look a bit deeper then the "bwah bwah white man bad, non-white man good" propaganda and see that all people can be good or evil no matter what the colour of their skin is.

I consider other races lucky to be able to gaze upon my proud Aryan visage...
On a serious note, I find it hard to believe this guy is real. Sure I feel bad for some of the stuff that went down, but I had no part in it. I don't feel guilt for things that are both not my fault and out of my power to fix.

I sense white-guilt mixed with self-hate. Stop crying about it and achieve something on your own instead of identifying yourself by your race because of your own shallowness and lack of individuality. This post was racist and ignorant - if you actually knew anything about American, Eastern European or Western European (or wherever your roots hail from) you would find it to be anything else but bland. seriously, did you just enter middle school to find out about slavery and the Trail of Tears or something? You give off the impression of being naive.

I once had a guy have a go at me because I have Blonde hair and Blue eyes and he called me a "Perfect Nazi *****". That's messed up. Be happy with what you have and what/who you are and then try to make a difference and stop pigeonholing Caucasians and feeling guilty over something you have no control of.

Give me one good reason why I should hate who I am (rhetorical question - I won't accept any reason even if you give one :p ) For note, I am white.

I love myself, my culture, where I'm from, who I am now, and the potential I still have to become greater within my life. I see nothing in my family's history which would ever shame me or cause me to regret, and I cannot (and WILL NOT) take responsibility for the actions of others that some people would try to group me with, but with whom I have no association other than the classifications given by society.

I am my own person, I make my own life, and I will not apologize - ever - for who I am. I may apologize for what I do, but never for who I am.

OP, that's just my view on it, but that's how I feel!
