I fucking love my country.

I can't comprehend how someone could ever hate their own country of origin...
I can. I'm ashamed of the state its turned into. And I blame it on the media.
Blame which media for what? "Media" acts as articulation. The only reason people buy into whatever people are saying is because it resonates with them on some level. If this "media" was broadcasting something that these people didn't want to see, they'd turn it off.

Alarmist portrayals of video games and internet use, for example, only work in a context where people already harbor anxiety over those strange and unfamiliar technologies. "Persuasion from above with consent from below."

And this isn't even taking into account the fact that journalists and TV writers are people living within this context too. Do they all have some hidden agenda to ruin your country, or are they affected by the same influences as everyone else?

I don't think simply blaming the media works.
Well I need to blame someone. Should I blame you? :p

Besides, what I've seen on TV is the same type of behaviour I see in the real world whenever its aired. TV says jump, people say how high.
Since television shows are competing for viewers, I'd say it's the opposite.

I (an American) spent a month abroad in France with some fellow college students. When I got back, people occasionally asked me what the French thought of my nationality. I explained that I recieved an amazing amount of anti- American hatred... from the other students. I'm sorry, I love French culture and food more than the next guy, but American stuff in general is pretty good too.

I'm actually very happy with my country (in general; this is not an overarching acquiescence of all things political) and am content to live here; I just don't wear it on my sleeve.
