Crystal Dynamics' take on Tomb Raider could be considered a controversial one...

On one hand Eidos did start it all and the originals were great, I mean you can't condemn the ps1 graphics, the games themselves were good, even if it was the first game 5 times in a row technically o_O But I really love Angel of Darkness, the story and characters anyway. It's a shame that it was Eidos' downfall.

On the other hand, Crystal Dynamics have done a great job at bringing the series up to date, it might have taken a couple of tries but Underworld is a firm favourite of mine.

Then again, to agree with the OP, I should point out Climax and Double Helix, of Silent Hill Origins/Silent Hill Shattered Memories and Silent Hill Homecoming respectively. It never has been the same since Team Silent. Still, at least Climax are actually TRYING. Curse you Double Helix!

Most of time I hate a switch in devs, but I do give the game a chance before I form an opinion about it.
That's what I thought. Then I played BK: Nuts and Bolts. Now, I just think it's safer to assume it will end badly.
But... that was made by Rare too.
They just kinda suck nowadays.

Developers are more important than franchises when it comes to making a good game but a change of developer can be good for a franchise. It's just that it's normally bad.

In practice, this has ruined more series then its saved. Spyro, anyone?
Personally I'd say Crash. Spyro actually had a moderately successful reboot series, while Crash got completely shafted.

That's when I first began to hate this practice. If the original team involved with a game or series wants nothing to do with continuing it, then maybe you shouldn't frakkin' continue it!
Ill have to disagree with you mate; and alreast say that both series were shafted on a fairly-equal way.

Spyro's reboot series was far from even moderately good. They always had a snide, funny, snarky undercurrent that made the games not only funny, but unique. Then Insomniac got rid of it. We got Year of the Dragonfly. Unfunny, unoriginal, plot was retarded AND they necroed a dead boss. Glitchy. It made me want to cry, in a bad way.

Say what you will about Crash, but Spyro is dead to me.
