Title pretty much says it all... Why is COD so incredibly hated (well among people who probably would consider themselves "hardcore gamers")? I mean, i aint no fan of COD, i've tried every single game, but i just feel that by Black Ops, it's kind of just the same..
But my hate is no way near the amounts that pretty much every gaming forum has for COD, and i never really understood it..

So yeah.. Why the immense hate for one of the best selling videogame franchises ever?

I've had the exact same thought, i think that all people no matter what are biased in their subcouncious towards things and/or people that are popular. And the "true" gaming crowd that dislikes COD also like more "artistic" games and such (this is speculation), as if COD is doing some huge disservice to games.

It is so wildly popular that other games try to copy it and bring down other series. Thats why its hated. If it existed as its own entity not affecting the gaming world, it would just be disliked or ignored.

Specific issues.

Yearly rehash akin to madden roster update.
Short singleplayer what clearly shows the game emphesises multiplayer
Incomprehesable story.

I'm sure there are more.

Since Cod4, it's just been the same game with different maps and Graphics, and arguably better multiplayer.

I have hopes for MW3, But then again i did with Black Ops, and i got bored of that after a few months.

Also this^

Completely agree. Other games need to try new things instead of copying Cod (Looking at you Medal Of Honour)

I wouldn't say i "hate" it i just don't like it much, and i keep my opinion at that. Also i feel that the people behind the making of it are putting more emphasis on the multiplayer with every coming game and just tacking on the single-player campaign.

I've thought about that and i find it to be a bad argument. Dont blame the wildly succesfull game that the copies arrive, blame the devs of the copies. If people hate COD so much then other devs could make their own unique FPS'es without having to worry about sales. But let me remind you that people like us dont buy that many of those games. And for shame.
It aint COD's fault that it spawns clones. Srsly stop that argument.

EDIT: Of course the other bad things aboot it you mentioned i agree with. Story aint kewl (i found BO interesting, but a huge letdown at the end), and yeah, its pretty much an EA Sports franchise with guns..

I could write a whole article about this, but I won't. Because the game ain't worth my time explaining why the game ain't worth my time. XD So, I'll just leave it at this: cash cow.

Incidentally, its turning more into a multiplayer game and less into a singleplayer. Now the singleplayer campaign can already be completed during a toilet break, so why even bother?

EDIT:

People like to think they're unique by boycotting every bandwagon that comes along.

I don't hate CoD, but I don't exactly understand it's popularity either. I played Call of Duty 4 around the time when it first came out and it bored me. Not only that, but I find the all the Call of Duty games since 4 more or less indistinguishable.

Sooo... Why hate on a cash cow, brah? 99% of all games are cash grabs (statistic may not be true), Duke Nukem, well sure 2K may find it fun to a degree, but lemme tell you, they bought it for the name! They know it will sell! Fallout is beginning to become a cash grab.. Pretty much every game with a major publisher is a cash grab.

I feel that 'hate' often becomes the de facto reaction of anyone/thing that doesn't meet one's needs/expectations in entertainment.

I don't hate CoD...in fact I kind of like it (for the experience it endeavors to create), but it is so samey that I can't justify paying full-price for MW3 which, for me, would constitute the same CoD 'shooting gallery' in new locales. If CoD could come up with a compelling narrative, or at least one that was kind of interesting I might reconsider. But -for the moment- it's just gun wank.

Now, here's the REALLY interesting bit. Some might take my above statement to mean that if they want to pay full price for MW3, then they're suckers. I think that's where a lot of excess hate comes from in that if anyone denigrates (or is perceived to be denigrating) their entertainment venue of choice, then the agrieved have to respond in kind (if not even MORE vehemently).

For me...CoD is fine for what it is. But I will be requiring more from it if I'm going to shell out the big bucks.

You asked why, not if it was a valid arguement. People hate the devs for falling into that trap too. More likely the publishers demanding games be like COD. But every time a new COD comes out and breaks a sales record it pisses me off because it reinforces the trend.

Its stagnation that brings in money, don't get me wrong I don't hate it, every year or so I enjoy the one weekend it takes me to beat the single player (not much of a multiplayer gamer).
But it doesn't go anywhere, its worse then halo, it doesn't improve anything even if it is in my opinion the best at what it does and some would argue that it has no need to improve, but half of the industry is copying it which means that the industry as a whole is suffering because its made stagnation prosperous.

Oddly enough I think one of the best artistic gaming moments came from the COD series, the whole nuke scene in modern warfare 1.

Then again, that was when everyone loved COD. Before it became the game that, given its sales record, everyone and their dog must own.

because I loved the first one and its expansion and in my opinion the quality of the singleplayer has be dropping throughout the different releases.

Please sir, that first line of your post delete it. Please. This is a forum, used to debate things, if i asked something and point out that your argument (imo) is invalid then i have every right to think and say so.

It still ain't Cod's fault that uninspired devs copy it. That's their choice. Y'know i think that they should make some more unique games, to break the mold. A little game was released some time ago in its alpha stage, now it's kind of popular, also just a small idea that hatched and grew. It's the copycat's fault, not the cat's.

I agree, then they tried to outdo themselves and ruined it. I dont know who I was in MW2 becuase my character kept getting shot in the face every 5th cuthscene. WTF.
