I have £50 and I wish to do good with it.

This is incredibly simple, really. I have in my possession one, physical £50 note.

I want to use this piece of paper to do some good.

How shall I proceed? (Bearing in mind it's IRL money; I can't use it online)

I'll take it :D

It's kind of cliche at this point but "Pay it forward" kind of things (like going to Starbucks and paying for the person in the car behind you) but it seems very popular nowadays. A very easy way to brighten an individuals day.

If you're looking for organizations to donate to , you might want to give us some more info (like your location) to pinpoint where you can go.

Buy something you want.

Anytime you think you are doing good, you may not be. Pay someone forward, they may put their money that they saved into an organisation you disagree with, donate to somewhere and you may never know where the money ends up. One of the few cases I think would be fine is to actually buy a homeless person a meal or something.

Otherwise, spend it on yourself and feel the good firsthand.

You could buy me DayZ and Metal Gear Rising on Steam, the put the £50 into your bank account. You do a good deed and come out £10 to spare!

I dunno, give it to a homeless person granted we don't know if the said homeless person will do go on the money (may spend it on drug etc).

Buy all of the drugs in the nearby vicinity, ergo lowering the consumption of drugs.

That bill's fake, right?

If not, I don't know, buy a random person a starbucks and then do a hula dance.

You'll find something you think is worth supporting. There's stuff to support education in poorer countries, education in our country, housing and support for the homeless, disease research, nature preservation, historical preservation, civil liberties at home and abroad, various political agendas, food and clean water for poor countries, medicine for poor countries, missionary work, church schools, private schools, the lifeguard, libraries, help for the elderly...

If I had £50, I'd probably just fritter it away on snacks and treats, so good for you.

Find somewhere taking Red Cross Donations, the recent disaster in The Philippines has shown they need the money both now and the next time the shit hits the fan.

Buy medical and food supplies and give them to a good Syrian Aid network. Don't give them money directly, unless you're happy with it just going on administrative costs. Seriously, Syria needs all the help it can get right now.

If you want to do something closer to home, go to a local homeless shelter with food, clothes and entertainment you've purchased for them. Try volunteering for a day too while you're there so you get a better insight in to what your money is being used on.

If you want to do something even closer to home, do something nice for your family. Remember, charity starts at home.

Rather than giving it to a homeless person directly, how about spending it on some basic supplies and giving them those? Stuff like: toilet paper, wet wipes, a toothbrush & toothpaste, a handheld mirror, some sturdy resealable bags, extra socks, blankets, razors, deodorant etc are all pretty cheap and would probably make a big difference for someone sleeping rough. I can't speak from experience but I feel like not being able to do anything about their appearance is probably a major obstacle for homeless people trying to improve their situation. For £50 you could probably put together a couple of 'kits' and hand them out locally.

BURN IT
show that no small physical piece of paper can control you! Show that you do not care for "rules" and that you are above the sheeps that dwell in cubicle offices. This is both sarcastic and not sarcastic.

My favourite charity is called Kiva. They provide short-term loans to entrepreneurs/small business owners in third-world who need capital for some reason (eg. to start their company or maybe a taxi driver needs to buy tyres). The best part is that the person you donated to pays you back so you can donate the same money again. So instead of just donating £50 you can donate it a second time (now £100 total donated), and a third time (£150), and a fourth etc. You can also get your money back in hand if you decide you want to do something else with your £50.

Go and buy ice cream, lots and lots of ice cream.

Or anything else you like.

Doing good is over rated, all it accomplishes is that other people can spend your cash on useless shit. You can do that yourself and do it better.

Give it to Child's Play. It's a charity that hooks up kids in hospitals with video games and toys. Pretty nifty.

You could buy a load of gardening equipment for yourself and grow some vegetables, thus saving you money & reducing your impact on the planet! Or you could do the same with trees, or pay someone to plant trees to offset your carbon dioxide emissions (there are websites that let you do this).
