Well I can't really give any advice here, I've never had any "proper" online friends. Oh, don't get me wrong, there's a few people I quite enjoy having conversations with (and a few of them are here) but nowhere near the extent of my real life friends. I guess I just prefer face to face or something.

Way back in the days, there was this social networking website called Myspace. I actually met my ex-girlfriend/best friend on that. So, you never know... randomly add some on facebook or something and be like, "Hey, I'm new in town and was trying to get to meet some people..."

Well if you play WoW you will meet a lot of people when you join a guild. I had a great one and I knew at least 50+ people and I was great friends with them. Yet I quit because the game makes you sell your soul can take your life away if you don't have a strong will.

I have met some very nice people on this sight and none will get mad at you unless your a troll or something. On a related note, I should probably set up a chain of restaurants called 'meatspace', and then people will be all like 'oh I get that reference, I should eat there.' I'll be a millionaire in minutes.
I'm always happy to receive a PM from a stranger who strikes up a conversation. Suppose you could look around and see if you have anything in common with someone and start talking over it.
