Well I can't really give any advice here, I've never had any "proper" online friends. Oh, don't get me wrong, there's a few people I quite enjoy having conversations with (and a few of them are here) but nowhere near the extent of my real life friends. I guess I just prefer face to face or something.

Edit: I don't want to seem unfriendly or anything, so anyone can Pm me if they want a conversation. :D

As shall I!
And myself!

Go play some multiplayer games, that's how I made a lot of online friends.
This also works brilliantly.

I think you should make a thread about it and have interviews with potential friends similar to what you find in a job interview.

It would be more efficient and streamlined in today's fast paced world.

Way back in the days, there was this social networking website called Myspace. I actually met my ex-girlfriend/best friend on that. So, you never know... randomly add some on facebook or something and be like, "Hey, I'm new in town and was trying to get to meet some people..."

At least that's what I said when I was moving

Well if you play WoW you will meet a lot of people when you join a guild. I had a great one and I knew at least 50+ people and I was great friends with them. Yet I quit because the game makes you sell your soul can take your life away if you don't have a strong will.

You could send a few PMs to people that interest you, we're mostly nice people :)
mostly. I will tear your head off if you PM me. Just kidding of coarse, I would go with this too. I have met some very nice people on this sight and none will get mad at you unless your a troll or something. In fact I get a lot of PM's mainly on Avatars, so if you see one that interest's you then PM the person because you might share a common interest.

Just talk, if someone makes a point you like, click "reply" and agree with them, they might add you to their list of friends.

That sort of thing.

I would love to be your friend,
really i would, but you see,
then i would have a friend.
And thats like dividing by zero.
Its just something that doesnt work well for the natural balance of things.

I got most of my online friends from here, The Escapist. They're all awesome.

The rest I found in EVE Online, they're all awesome too.

I suggest forums and MMOs.

I have heard great things about a website called "outside"
AKA 'meatspace'!
I dunno. Sounds pretty boring.

and rainy, at the moment.

On a related note, I should probably set up a chain of restaurants called 'meatspace', and then people will be all like 'oh I get that reference, I should eat there.' I'll be a millionaire in minutes.

I'm always happy to receive a PM from a stranger who strikes up a conversation. Suppose you could look around and see if you have anything in common with someone and start talking over it.
Also, Omegle believe it or not. I've met a few people on that.

funny, i have the opposite problem. i have maybe one friend IRL, but tons of them online.

just find a site to be a part of and make yourself known. Most of my OL friends are on a small (30-40) member site. Just find a place that you like and get your name out there!
Yes that is kinda of what I am looking for. A small site with a smaller community. I just don't know where to start.

what are you looking for in a site? you could give my community a chance, but i'm not sure if you would like it. want a link?

*note: i do not know if i am allowed to link to things like this on the escapist. it's nothing bad though*

I'd say online games, if you got a game you play a lot join a clan/guild/whatever, and just talk with people there.
I'd think it would helop a lot, to have some common ground, like a game you play together.
