I have 20ish dollars and I'm bored! Any suggestions?

Amnesia: the dark descent is a good choice for that price range. Very good first person horror game made by the people who made Penumbra.

The Witcher is currently $4.99 on Good Old Games. I haven't personally played it, but considering what you've said about complexity in games, it might interest you. Besides, at that price, you could get it and still have enough left over for a couple of indie/older games.

Mount and blade warband is a lot of fun if you give it a chance. mind you its 30$ rather than 20, but theres a demo. Fire and Sword is 15$, but its harder to get into.
And don't forget that vanilla Mount & Blade is $20, and there are still a few mods for it that haven't been ported over just yet (Oddly I'm playing it more than Warband at the moment, without mods to boot.)

OT: Soo, 20 bucks for a time killer 'till L.A. Noire? Well, here's two suggestions: Log thine arse onto GOG and purchase thee something nice & cheap (Cannon Fodder!), or, if you're really looking at Steam, log on and look up X-Com. Individual games are 5 bucks a pop, or the collection is 15 bucks. That may sound like a deal, but personally I'd just skip Interceptor & Enforcer to save the 2 cent difference(Even there just pick up UFO Defense, that'll last you a while.)

Why game? Watch a good show. Crave the game.

You have Netflix? Watch Firefly. Dollhouse is good too if you can sit through the boring first six or so episodes. Maybe some Psyche, if you need a laugh.

It's what I'm doing, mostly, until L.A. Noire. Little Assassin's Creed II here and there, but mostly I'm starvin' myself from the game to make sure I enjoy it just that much more.

EDIT:

This and this

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is good if you want an RPG FPS that has a lot of depth. Amnesia is good if you want a game that far exceeds the price of admission, it's scary as hell.
