Hello, I had Windows 7 up until today. Apparently my copy is not genuine *I lost the cd and must have not put the product key in while I 1st installed it.* So I went to install my copy of vista back onto my computer, when i was done. I got a blue screen, figured I must have forgot to delete Windows 7. SO I Put the vista disk back in, made sure to delete EVERYTHING that was on the hard drive and installed Vista once again...

Same thing happened I'm getting a blue screen and my computer keeps restarting its self. I have no idea what to do, Can anyone help me out? Is it my hard drive? Am I missing a simple step? Any advice would help me greatly, thank you.

No, however I can laugh at your misfortune - hahahaha

If that's really the problem...reformat the hard drive and reinstall? Or have Microsoft put arbitrary install limits on their software?

Installing Vista over Windows 7 never works well. In fact the same goes for any OS installation. Unless you have an "Upgrade" copy, you're better off reformatting.

If you have the hard drives to do it... http://majorgeeks.com/Western_Digital_Data_Lifeguard_Tools_d2855.html

Digital Data Lifeguard is a great program to write hdd's to 0's. I've used it on MANY occasions and I've never had any trouble with it.

Don't you still have the CD key for 7? If you put it in wrong, just put it in right the second time.

You meantioned it was restarting all the time. Check your bios sounds like you might have a corruption thats putting it into a random reboot situation.

Also might be a mildly fragged HDD. Try a different HDD if you can, also try looking at your drive through linux via the run from CD option, you might be able to glean more info from that and also perform a more stable format of the drive from there.
