I had never really been into RTS before, I tried Tiberian Sun when they released it as freeware and its just way to confusing if you want to get good at it. For Battleforge you kinda needed to buy if yuo wanted more cards so it got boring but when I bought the THQ pack on steam, Dawn of War II and I came in the pack. I remember I said in a topic that I didn't really know about the RTS in the pack and even if I would play them, I forgot who also but someone told me to try it and I found isntant love with the game.

Unlike alot of other games were in constant resource gathering (not that there isnt a bit of it in DoWII but its not the same as it in other games were resources = buildings = more soldier unlocks (though an expert on the game may have to clairfy me on this becuase I dont think it does but it might have little.) instead it has fast pace actions and I have also found love with the Last Stand mode... its horde mode in a rts... and is amazing, also the fact that when you level you can get armor and weapons for your character...

Does anyone else love Dawn of War II? and if you do post your GFWL name (becuase the game does use it for multiplayer) here or Steam name so we can play. :)

I wouldn't consider DoWII a RTS because you mainly play as the commander thing. DoW (the origional) was more fun for me personally, but I did like DoWII and it was very entertaining.

I've never played it. Sounds different from other rts games I've played... and didn't like... Maybe I'll try it.

Sure, I actually enjoy Dawn of War 2 more than the first.

I like the tighter focus on battlefield tactics, I like the emphasis towards micromanagement, I like the 'less is more' approach they take, and I like that the way they have the interface designed you're encouraged to spend every second actually 'participating' in battles rather than sending soldiers off to fight and then returning to your base so you can manage resources for the next batch.

Simply put it's fun and it feels rewarding to win a tough skirmish online or to finish a level in Chaos Rising. It wasn't just sheer numbers that won, but your decisions and planning which overtook the enemy. What's also appealing to me in online matches is that superior numbers or faster reflex don't necessarily mean you lose. A well micromanaged small unit can not only hold off a larger force, but decimate it if you're playing soundly and use good tactics.

Wasn't perfect mind you, but hell, I liked DoW2 a ton.

Congratulations! You've played your first Relic game. You might find the other RTSs to be fun as well.

I have Dawn Of War 2 but feel Dawn Of War 1 is better. The Campaign is fantastic but I just feel the Gameplay is a bit :(. Damn 3 man squads... I hear Dawn Of War 2: Chaos Rising fixes that. Have fun! Don't expect to see me on GFWL. I might play it again though.

Mines Nouw by the way.

Well now I am going to try playing Company of Heroes next. Hey I have the Dawn of war 2: Chaos rising, do I have to load that up to play it or just load up the normal game?

Ok all my alarm went off. My favorite RTS has resource gathering starcraft. You say its more fast paced. You've never played Starcraft have you? its a good game but dont you trash the classics. DOW2 is great but no legend. Starcraft Fo life. Good stuff though i love dawn of war 2 as well.

I played it about a year ago and found it rubbish. But I have since got it and found it fun. There are some annoying things about it, but no game is perfect. Still it is a good (I'm guessing it will fall in as a) Action RPG.

Still try the original DoWs (except Soulstorm) for a excellent RTS

I don't play RTSes online, but I love DOWII's single player. Making the game a squad-based tactical Diablo was a stroke of genius. I just want non-Space Marine campaigns. One where you play as a Chaos lord trying to achieve daemonhood would kick all sorts of ass, so would one where you were an inquisitor trying to eliminate all signs of heresy from a sector.

As an RTS, the first series was better, but DOW2 has merits, certainly.

If only I could play it with other people (Because GFWL is just a hot f*cking mess).

It's a stripped down RTS aka everything that makes RTS games fun is gone in order to make it as fast as possible.

I can kind of see the appeal but I just don't enjoy it.

Maybe you could class it as a real time commander 'cos that what you are, that guy who just throws men at a problem till it's gone.

All my info is in my profile. :D

You're going to want to check out the rest of Relic's RTS series. They're all equally awesome and are not your typical RTS fair. Homeworld 1 blew my god damn mind when I first played it years ago. I had tried the ****craft games and found them to be clunky and lacking. H1 is what made me fall in love with RTS games.
