So... many... Valve fanboys... in this thread.

I love the idea that if you don't really enjoy Valve games, you must be a retard that plays CoD all day. There's a thing called opinion and preference.

And why are people defending Valve so much? You realize that they're just as much a company after your money as Activision, EA, Ubisoft, etc? Why is it ok for them to delay games day after day but whenever another company does it, people scream and cry?

I agree with the TC somewhat. Valve is not original when it comes to game design. They release one game once in a blue moon that is extremely simple to play, shallow, and usually just amounts to a well made Half-Life mod. I don't like Valve multiplayer games for this reason. They're too dumbed down for me. I'd much rather play Battlefield, or even CoD. At least those games have some variety to them.

However, Half-Life 2 and Portal are two of the best games I've ever played. That's because of the story of both, and also the portal mechanics in Portal.

And here we have a prime example of a Valve fanboy:

Why is this ok, but CoD or console fanboys aren't? They're the same, annoying thing, except Valve fanboys have this smug, elitist attitude about it.
also a whole bunch of Valve (and Bioware) fanboys who can ruin people's days.

All that said, the OP did come across as very whiny and ungrateful, and not a little troll-ish.
Whiny? I stated my opinion in cold words. Ungrateful? Should i be grateful that Valve as a company produces games? What should i be grateful for?

You people can claim that i am a troll all day, because i really don't care. I set my opinion down on the table, you can either eat it or throw it away.

Please let the damn thread die after this.
Time for me to apologise here, since I evidently misjudged you. Sorry about that, but you could have worded the thread a little better. You sounded... well, I already described what you sounded like.

But from the rest of your posts, you're evidently not like that, so I'm sorry.

Also, I agree on letting the thread die. The full-scale Valve fanboy assault has gone on for long enough.

When was the last time Valve [http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meanwhile.jpg] announced a completely new series? L4D...how long ago was it?

Now they just announced Portal 2...or should I say Portal: More of the Same."

I mean, at least they could have it on a new engine, but NO!

They have used the same engine for an entire decade.

WOW!

Not to mention they have completely forgotten their best franchise! Hey guys! Remember Dr. Freeman! You know, the whole of Earth and stuff!

There should have been no "episodes" in the first place for HL2, and they should have all come out in the same year considering around five minutes were put into each section.

They are the perfect example of a lazy company, stop using the nasty Source engine, and get their engineers to make something that doesn't have Gamecube graphics.

I give up. I can't be pacified with TF2 updates forever. If Valve doesn't announce Episode 3, or HL3 running on a new engine soon I'm just done with them as a developer.

Actually I think they were done with Ep. 3 a long time ago, Gabe just ate it.

What do you think about the company?
Okay I have issues with this. L4D was November of 08, it's only like 2 years old, God of War is older than it. Portal 2 introduces a LOT of stuff, the extra tools and the co-op mode and how dare you be mad at it, Portal was AWESOME. You get mad at them for rehashing old titles with a sequel, and then you turn around and beg for more Half-Life? Do you see the problem with this?

Also the source engine may be old, but it's still looking damn good to me. My personal opinion of HL3/Ep3 is they are building it on a new engine(thats just what I think, I have no proof) or trying to tie in the Portal games story wise since Aperture Science IS referenced in Half-Life and Black Mesa was referenced in Portal.

Either way, quit your whining, the games are great.

I am actually not a Valve fanboy, valve games aren't even my faves. But they are great games nonetheless. I just find it odd that some companies get more leeway in releasing games at their leisure than others. I'd like to think that the reason some games take longer to release is because they are working out all the bugs, this isn't always the case. Take for example Black Ops. I got it on PC, and for the first month or so I couldn't play it AT ALL cause of the sheer amount of bugs. So I ask you, was it ok for Activision to release the game in such a state? I personally would have rather wait a few months till they tested the game, instead of having a Black Ops shaped paperweight on my desk. So to reiterate, no i'm not a fanboy, I just don't throw a ***** fit when games are delayed. I'll give you this tho, if they are delaying the game to give us another L4D game then they are just dicking with us.

I don't think they would really care. Remember all the hurlyburly about FF13 being released for the 360? Some of the really japanophile otaku fans threatened to boycott the game, seeing as they (somehow feel that) made the franchise successful on their own power they could prevent the release. They didn't. Square Enix didn't care about them, and valve won't care about you.

I don't see what the problem with the Source engine is. It's not like they're Bethesda using that fucking Gamebyro piece of crap over and over again because apparently they like complaints about bugs, glitches, and freezing. Especially on PS3, I can't believe they put New Vegas out like that for Playstation again after what a mess Fallout 3 turned out to be.

There's absolutely NO reason for them to get a new engine. People really need to look at last engine graphics. The source engine has ALWAYS been better than gamecube graphics. When HL2 came out, it was considered the best looking game to date. They've since improved the engine considerably. Apparently you have yet to see a Portal 2 screen, as the graphics and animation look fantastic. No developer would throw away THEIR engine to use a completely different one.

Also, the structure of this topic just screams trolling, so you probably just want attention. Congratulations, you made it to five pages.

Don't fix what isn't broke I suppose.

The L4D series is very popular and very good.

Nearly everyone is excited for Portal 2.

The TF2 updates are free. I don't complain about free stuff.

EDIT: I care little for the Half Life games so HL3 doesn't bother me.
I kinda wish they would update their system, it's getting WAY samey

off note

L4D I haven't played but it looks good
Portal 2 I could care less about
TF2... yeah I still play TF2 all the time; best multiplayer shooter ever and it's been around for almost 5 years if I'm correct (take that Halo/CoD who has to release a new game EVERY YEAR just to keep your fan base... and your CA-CHING)

Half-Life... I first played the demo for opposing force when I was little; being deprived of shooters I thought it was the best thing ever

next thing I know everyone is freaking out about Half-Life 2

Eventually I get the half-life series

...it reminds me of the Lord of the Rings movies
fight here
action there
90% is walking from here to there

Considering how Blizzard is now Activions lap-biatch, Valve is #2 in my book, right after BioWare.

Oh, and calling Portal 2 "more of the same"... sure, the basic mechanics are there, but we're getting CoOp puzzles and a fat load of cool new mind-boggelers in the mix.

It's like saying that Wolfenstein is the same as Doom, just because they both involved shooting things.

About the Source engine, I'm kind of an eye-candy whore myself, the type of guy who upgrades whenever the PC can't run ultimate-max settings at 60+ FPS, BUT; I'd still rather take Valves best storyline and gameplay over anything Crytek ever made.
Graphics is not everything. (It's a lot though.)

You know they developed the Source Engine themselves right? Its basically their baby, and they're trying to get as much life out of it as possible.

Portal 2 is similar but adds a lot to the experience, it should also be MUCH longer than the 1st one, also, multiplayer!

Yeah, I agree they need to continue the Half-Life story, but they do a lot of good and are by far one of the best Developers in the entire industry.

They don't just throw together a game (although, I think L4D2 was a bit thrown together), they put a lot of time and effort into every minor detail...just play the "Commentary Mode" in one of their games and you'll understand.

I don't know your complaining about what a lot of companies do. Nintendo has been making mario games more of the same with little changes here or there and calling it new (Same with Zelda, pokemon and so on). EA is pushing out the same sports games every year which adds so little when someone comes in to trade in their games they can barely get 2 bucks for it. Square-Enix has not remade Final Fantasy 7 yet(which is the most popular, I don't know why they should bother cause fans will whine that it isn't "faithful")but they try to make changes(that aren't that good to be honest, some of the times) in the other Final Fantasy games. Valve is just rolling with what is popular to make money which is what companies are in for. Unless you own the company I don't see them bending over backwards to please people, I rather they make it when they know they can instead of half ass it. Or who knows maybe they are working on a new engine and half life ep3 and trying to keep it under wraps. In the end it's just speculation and unless you work for the company you can't really say what they are and are not doing.

They don't make new games because they're losing their fans.
They make them either because they want more cash, and doesn't want to come up with a new IP, or because they want to continue "the story".

For CoD, I feel it's the first.
For Halo, I feel it's the last.

It's pretty clear that CoD is all about the multiplayer for the developers, but looking at Halo, I feel quite confident in saying that the good people at Bungie wanted to make an epic, and simply had to include MP as a value-for-money deal. (Not to say that the MP isn't good.)

you know, this argument always confuses me. Valve is bad because they don't use Unreal or the Cryengine...what kind of sense does that make? The Source engine is great, and has been for years.

I totally agree here. Valve fanboys are infuriating. If you didn't enjoy Half-life, or prefer Halo as a multiplayer shooter to TF2, then you're apparently a blighted casual who shouldn't even consider rubbing shoulder with the self-anointed 'true ones' of the Valve fanbase.

I've mentioned before on these forums, casually, that I didn't find Half Life 2 to be great, only for Valve fans to post such replies as 'Lol, bet you prefer CoD every single year, or maybe you're just the kind of person who laps up every samey Halo game.' Seriously Valve fans, some of you need to get over yourselves.

I like Valve for Steam, and I only like Steam because of its frequent deals. Left 4 Dead was decent, and Left 4 Dead 2 was the kind of franchise whoring that Valve fanboys are quick to pick up on when any other developer does it. I failed to enjoy Half-Life, but then again I loved Portal.

It might be the same engine after ten years but it's an engine that has barely aged in those ten years, hell of an achievement. Yes, they're taking too long with Episode 3 and the very eventual Half-Life 3, but, we allowed Blizzard to do the same thing with Starcraft 2 so I'll abide Valve the same. Assuming the Blizzard analogy fits it'll definitely be worth the wait.

Also, Portal 2 is going to make every steam account orgasm though that's just mine and the internet's opinion.
