Since when is having an opinion being a troll?

Just because i shared an opinion that you didn't agree with, doesn't mean i'm a troll.
Statements like Portal 2 being more of the same or L4D not being updated aren't in the realm of opinion, they fall into the realm of things which can be easily proven to be wrong.

Portal 2, on top of having an updated engine is introducing co-cop and completely new game mechanics.

Since release L4D got survival mode, and two new campaigns.

Everything else has pretty much been covered by others, but I also have to say that I find it ridiculous to even suggest that they've forgotten about Half-Life. Considering you have absolutely no knowledge of what they may be working on currently it's a statement with no basis in fact. It's fairly clear they've moved on from the idea of doing episode 3 as was originally planned at this point, but that actually makes me more interested to see where they take it once they do make the next game.

I have no problem with you not liking Valve. In fact, I could care less about your opinion of them. Just don't make things up to try and justify your feelings. You might as well get your facts straight if you're going to to justify swearing off a companies games.

more of the same eh...OK lets break it down.

Portal 1 puzzle elements:

1.portal gun

2.boxes/buttons

3.turrets

4.disruptor fields

5.energy balls of death/receptacles

6.missile launcher.

7.personality cores

portal 2 puzzle elements so far announced/seen in gameplay trailer(adding the first 7 just because I'm sure they'll make a return):

1.portal gun

2.boxes/buttons

3.turrets

4.disruptor fields

5.energy balls of death/receptacles

6.missile launcher.

7.personality cores(this time will play a more significant role in the storyline)

8.lasers with special cubes that can redirect beam/receptacles

9.jump pads

10.goo(one allows you to run fast the other allows higher jumping)

11.suction tubes

12.levitation fields

that I believe is 6 additional new puzzle mechanics (I'm counting the cores since they actually do something in this game besides get thrown into a fire in the last level.) added to the game along with the original mechanics I'm pretty sure they'll be able to make the puzzles offered much more diverse than the original game, also included is a co-op mode with its own dedicated storyline.

Normally I wouldn't respond to one of these hl2:ep3 whiner thread, but I had to respond to the portal 2 accusations. Have you even seen screenshots or watched the (very brief) gameplay trailers, it looks leagues better than the original.

And I'll say the same thing I always do in regards to HL2:Ep3, there won't be one it's been in development for so long they probably just renamed it Half Life 3 and it will be a stand alone title.

I just want them to hurry up and bring us Episode 3 or Half Life 3, whichever one concludes the Half Life story arc damn it. Please Valve...bring it out soon preferably before I die of old age.

OT
Portal was fun and Portal 2 should be at lest interesting as puzzle game. I don't have a problem with valve other than wanting them to pull there finger out and hurry there dev teams so they can bring us more Half Life

Its very simple. There is a thing called Valve time. Seriously even they realize their release times are complete BS. But they are trying to improve on it. They also have continued support for L4D or did you forget about the new campaigns? You can look up their reasonings online. But also if you really look at new IP's they have released well within certain time periods. IF you look at the release dates of the first games in the series. It takes a lot (and I mean A LOT) of money and time to develop a new game. And to be honest Valve is not a huge studio. To be honest they are a medium sized independent studio.

But I also think they are trying to develop the new engine for Episode 3 so I believe they are going to wait until thats done before they finish the game.

I want EP3/HL3 but I don't mind waiting. Plenty of other games to play while I wait. Valve make good enjoyable games. Whats not to like?

Source engine still works well. Still looks good, still runs great, doesn't hamper gamers in any way.

L4D series are good games. As is Portal, and I think 99% of the gaming world are psyched for Portal 2. I like Half-Life games as much as the next guy, and yeah I do really want Episode 3, or even just Half-Life 3. But hey, as long as Valve are making good games, I'm not gona fret over it.

Long story short: if you don't like them, don't buy their stuff anymore.

Just to draw up a comparison with Blizzard, both companies have ridiculously long development times, but both have also made some of the most successful games of recent years. Seems to be some correlation there, no?

It'll be done when it's done.

When was the last time Valve [http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/meanwhile.jpg] announced a completely new series? L4D...how long ago was it?

Now they just announced Portal 2...or should I say Portal: More of the Same."

I mean, at least they could have it on a new engine, but NO!

They have used the same engine for an entire decade.

WOW!

Not to mention they have completely forgotten their best franchise! Hey guys! Remember Dr. Freeman! You know, the whole of Earth and stuff!

There should have been no "episodes" in the first place for HL2, and they should have all come out in the same year considering around five minutes were put into each section.

They are the perfect example of a lazy company, stop using the nasty Source engine, and get their engineers to make something that doesn't have Gamecube graphics.

I give up. I can't be pacified with TF2 updates forever. If Valve doesn't announce Episode 3, or HL3 running on a new engine soon I'm just done with them as a developer.

Actually I think they were done with Ep. 3 a long time ago, Gabe just ate it.

What do you think about the company?
So you complain that they don't make any new franchise but at the same time want new HL stuff. Hypocrite much? And what´s wrong with the source engine? Graphics isn't THAT important and the physics do what they should do.

I would also like to point out that developers such as Blizzard or publishers like Activision haven't done a new franchise in ages, or in activision case, haven't published anything that doesn't at least have the number "2" in it.

i like it how people hate valve cause they don't make enough games or because they made lfd2 instead of giving them more stuff in lfd1, than no one bitches that ea makes a new foot ball soccer tennis and so on game every year, has sequels up the a hole and evil drm, no lets rip on valve cause they take to long making games so there up to par and hate them cause they made one semi cash out if you can call it that in lfd2

I thought the Source engine had aged really well in Half-Life 2 when I played it, actually. And besides, they're supposed to be working on a new engine now (GoldSrc or something).
Gold Src is the old engine - A heavily modded version of the engine used in Goldeneye - they used Gold Src for the original Half Life; I'm pretty sure they're not working on a new one - just updating Source.

Well yeah, why would you throw it away and start over? It's not like they haven't massively upgraded the engine with every new game.

Your operating system has been using the same kernel basis for almost two decades, but it's not like there hasn't been any evolution.

This really has nothing to do with the topic, but seriously WHAT THE FUCK is up with people's obsession with bacon?

You're seriously going to tell me that bacon is better than say, steak?
At least it's not cake.

Your gripe is with a developer not changing an engine that works extremely well?

Oh I do love it when the public moan about stuff they don't understand...An engine is more than just how a game looks. Portal 2 was always going to be "more of the same", just like how L4D2 was going to be "more of the same". The premise is solve puzzles with portals and physics. WHAT FUCKING ELSE CAN THEY CHANGE?!

God you've irritated me.

Valve has separate departments working on separate games, the half life 2 episode 3 department does start to sound pretty damn lazy.

HELLO? EPISODIC GAMING=GAMES RELEASED MORE FREQUENTLY!!!!

But i'm not mad at the other departments at valve, they do their job.

Also, you say valve hasn't announced something new, eh? THEY ANNOUNCED A DOTA GAME FROM VALVE.

If you consider a dota game new, that is.

Which we probably don't.

Also, the source engine is constantly being updated with better graphics, they don't need a new engine, duh.
