If it is past page 20 on the board, it is dead. Anything else is fair game.

Just going to pop up here and offer my two cents.

Thread Necroing itself has never really been in the Code of Conduct (or previously, the Forum Guidelines) as it's own "Don't do this" because the idea of bringing up a thread if it's relevant and on-topic isn't at all a wrong thing to do.

Admittedly, necroing a thread about pre-patch problems in a game (that are no longer an issue) or a news article months old is pointless, and is a bad idea because it's just a low-content post that promotes no discussion. (Which, keep in mind, there's already a pair of rules against those behaviors.) An old thread that is again (or still) relevant isn't actually a problem, it's just a thread that happens to have a different date on the starting line.

Other than that, the Code of Conduct [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/codeofconduct] has a list of all of the present mods on it, and they'll never take offense to you PMing them asking them about a thread or whether or not it's okay to bump an old thread with on-topic discussion. Or if you see a thread you think needs to be dropped back into the nether.

Also, feel free to hit up the IRC [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/chat], there's usually a mod or two in there to resolve an issue, and if there isn't, ask for NewClassic, I can pass it along the food-chain pretty quickly.
What is happening?!
They're all staring at me, with such a vindictive gaze, condemning entirely our beloved search bar, calling it "Necromancy!"
All these years, all this time, I had thought-

Hark, in the distance!

Here they come, bearing the visage of an innocent search query upon a pitifully hewn rood of BBC code...
Closer, and closer they come, with a sense of righteousness in their ideals, brought from faraway lands of Gamefaqs, the Bioware forums, and birdwatchingdaily.com.
Oh, what has become of this once sweet little place, a once humble website we called home? They chastise others merely for seeking the wisdom of the past, to pay homage to their mighty forum ancestors of a couple months' time. And what are we, NewK? What role do we play, as this new order seeks to undermine everything we hold dear?
I... I do not know. I do not know what will happen, nor if I will survive much longer.
...NewK...
*dies in a fit of old user nostalgia*

Seriously, though, if there's a serious, non-derailed discussion to be had in a few month old thread, what is wrong with posting in it? I mean, the Escapist forums are about discussion, and if you can contribute something, go ahead.
Things are a little different now, with the greater volume of traffic, and more thread discussions are achieving closure within their own duration. In that case, its appropriate to make a new thread.
Still, what bothers me here is that the anti-necroing vibe seems to put post date above discussion value on principal, which is silly.

I have no problem with thread necroing, but 50 iterations of the same crap gets old. I don't understand why people dislike thread necroing when it is the lesser of two (inevitable) evils.
So is the evil just anything you have already talked about?
The evils are necroing and repeating. Necroing is tolerable, a lot better and makes sense to me. And I saw your post on people getting berated either way... so sad and true :(

Always bump that thread! In fact I think it should be sticky'd! Everyone loves Bubble Breaker right?

...right?

OT: Anyway, Necro-ing threads isn't that bad. But when a 3 year old thread gets necro'd for no reason then it kind of takes the joke a bit too far. I don't mind relevant topic necros like necro-ing a pony thread rather than making a new one etc.

As long as there's still discussion value in the thread I don't see why it shouldn't be ok to necro it. Though adding tips, or simular answers, to really old threads is pretty silly.

I've never really been a Necromancer kind of person myself. Too many summons to worry about. Then when you PvP one, they tele on top of you(using Enigma armor) and just skele-rape you. They're less popular now though. The game is older and the skeles force the game to crash for some reason...

Oh...We're not talking about Diablo 2, are we?

Certain threads, such as the Pimp My Gun, The Customer is Always Wrong, and Scary Thread, I'm okay with them being necro'd. But threads about outdated questions, or problems with games, or threads that have already been answered, yeah, fuck them.

Threads about problems with games are bad to necro on a website dedicated to discussing video games? 0_o If the problem still exists then I don't see what's so wrong about asking / ranting about it. Inb4 someone says he's talking about problems that no longer exist, he did not specify that - all he said was "problems with games".

I hope nobody posts in this thread for like, 5 years, and then it gets necro'd/. I would laugh gleefully.

I agree! The sheer amount of undead profaning and other such tomfoolery is just too much around here! I reckon we should ban it, just like the Mages Guild did!
Hm? What's this?

Ah. I have just been informed we are talking about an entirely different form of necromancy, specifically the one about bringing back old threads. On that I am loosely in favour, if there is still discussion value left in it.
Haha, I had the same thought when I read the title.

I don't see the problem with necro'ing a thread that has a widely discussed topic, but I do agree that it's title should be a different colour as to make sure people know it's an old thread (I just saw one revived from 2009 haha)
