I have serious concerns with how the cast of Ghost in the Shell looks.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT STUPID TUBE EYE BULLSHIT?!?!?! How hard is it to fuck up a badass cybernetic eyepatch?!
To be fair I think that cybernetic eye is supposed to be connected to a camera on his gun so that he can see exactly where the gun is aimed at all times, and shoot without looking down the sights.

Doesn't make it look any less dumb, but at least it seems like it has a purpose.
Oh I understand that. Granted, I don't know why the wire doesn't just directly connect to the gun. That it doesn't just makes me ask "is wireless not an option in 2029?"
The wire looks like it connects to something on his chest, which then has another wire connecting to the gun. Why? I don't know, seems needlessly convoluted.

As far as why wireless isn't an option, probably the same reason that pro gamers almost universally use wired mice instead of wireless ones, faster response times and nothing can interfere with the signal.

Plus, considering that Ghost in the Shell is all about things being hacked you'd think no one on the team would use a wireless signal for ANYTHING because of how vulnerable they are.
Eh, maybe they changed it for this movie but in the anime Saito used a satellite uplink to fire at massive distances with exceptional accuracy. It was vulnerable to hacking, but there really was no better way to aim. If that's not the case here, I still don't get why the wire needs to thread down to his chest and then into his gun. Or why it needs to be white.
Because if it were plugged directly into the gun and he were to drop his gun, someone where to rip it out of his hands and run off with it or if it were to get stuck somewhere when moving at high velocity ( falling, chase scene, whatever ), the entire assembly in his eye socket would get ripped out.

If that were to happen with the setup as shown in the little animated avatar, the cable would simply unplug from the little box on his chest.
Assuming the little box is attached securely, stress that occurs from pulling on the cable that is connected to the gun will be absorbed by the little box and not by his eye socket, which I assume would be rather painful.

Also, it's easier to move around if you have only a small cable going from your head to your chest, rather directly to the gun.
Ever wondered why some earbuds come with these little clips on their cables? It's so that you can attach them to your shirt to help with ease of movement of your head.
The cable won't get caught on your clothing as you move your head as the cable is fed towards one fixed position, and the only part of the cable that moves is the part that goes from your head to your chest.

None are as bad as the person portraying Batou. He doesn't look anything like him.

With these guys I can live. My main concerns with this movie is that Batou looks like some chubby rookie and that it seems that this verion of GitS will have 90% action and 10% philosophy, unlike original where ratio was really close to 50/50.

I hear Scarlett Johansson is against the idea of monogamy, so I'm still in with a chance there.

I'll probably go and see the film just because it's rare enough to see something in that genre get a cinema release. Mind you, I've been meaning to see John Wick 2 for a few weeks and haven't got round to it. Missed Trainspotting 2 as well I think.

I have concerns that (based on the more recent trailer) that the story is going to be about Motoko rediscovering her own origins and turning against the government; which is the opposite of how she behaves in the series/films (she is loyal to a government, despite having no illusions as to how cynical/tyrannical it is).

I am totally name dropping you when you become a couple. With a stupid concatenated name. BaffScar? JoBaff?

WTF? When I saw Saito eye cable, I thought the gif image thing was messed up!

Either way, I will be hardpress if this film turned out to be super good!

I'm not sure they'd go that far but if they do and I actually decide to see this in theaters, I'm walking out. I mean hell, in S.A.C., even when the government turned on Section 9 and tried to kill/capture them all, they remained loyal! It was all part of a plan, sure, but those Umibozu were using very lethal force.

Anyone else always like Togusa the best? I mean Major and Batou are awesome, but Togusa is just a cool dude.

Really, mullets and cables? Is that what we are complaining here? I guess all the complains about whitewashing and the protagonist are so trite now that we have devolved to complaining about realistic hair styles and colors in a bloody anime.

I don't require an adaption to precisely resemble the source material.

I can live without a mullet or an eyepatch. Although that tube eye does look pretty goofy.

I'll evaluate it on its own merits. Which of course is no guarantee that I'll like it.
Same. A completely identical adaptation is a pointless adaptation. Having said that, I have no confidence in this movie either way.
I disagree. A faithful adaptation gives to people who gets turned off by the original medium (manga and anime) a chance to have the same experience that is constantly praised in a medium in which they are more confortable.

You're concerned about the CAST?

Have you seen latest trailer? I'm concerned that they've basically turned this into "Robocop with boobs" ("Boobocop"?)

BUT...I'll reserve judgment until the actual movie comes out.

Togusa/Batou are the best. I mean, they made Ghost in the Shell 2 and the SAC series for me. Even after they started giving Togusa cybernetics.

The major's depictions vary. First manga, original movie, and GitS 2? Good. (She was a well executed deus ex machina in the second movie). Stand Alone Complex? Started off good, went to rubish. Being the best member of the team I can get, but she's a better hacker than the specialist hacker, a better sniper than the specialist sniper, has better underworld contacts than the yakuza guy, is a better fighter than the specialist heavy, and is a better detective than the police detective? Calling bullshit on that.

It's an acceptable risk when trying to make shots that are impossible by today's standards. It's not like everyone terrorist in GitS is a hacker god; very few have that capability.
Who said anything about hacking anything. You don't need to hack anything, just use a jammer. We have those today, the Iranian military probably used one to bring down a military drone (which are made to be impossible to hack).

Wireless communication uses electromagnetic signals (usually radio waves) broadcast through the air. Even if you can't decrypt or manipulate the data on those signals, you can still broadcast a load of random noise to drown out the signal. Result, your wireless stuff stops working.

Physical connections will always be safer and more reliable.

I'm not having this argument anymore. It's an anime. One that I didn't create. You want to ask why they don't worry about jammers? ASK THE WRITERS.

You came down really hard on this one though, and I don't get it.. It's fine, it makes sense.

Also, sign me up for team "literally doesn't care how closely it resembles previous adaptations or the original manga".

It'll probably suck though.

If I cared that much about it the different races would mean a lot more to me. RIP Togusa's mullet, though, Never Forget.

However, the trailer exploring the Major's plot in the movie just sounds awful. Not because it doesn't follow the source (there are like four different versions of Ghost in the Shell already) but because it just sounds like a crap story. It feels like they are TRYING to make this not look like a generic Sci-fi action movie but right now it looks like just that.
