Now, we all know that Team Fortress 2 has a plot, though its only one we see in bits. I've been thinking about the addition of a new game mode in which the announcer has decided that she's through with the all the mercs in the game, and she's going to kill and replace them. Now the two teams will have to band together to survive.
This game mode will take the two teams across America (or around the World) trying to find, and kill, the annoucer. It will delve into many characters backstories along the way, and reveal lots about all of the characters.
The gameplay mode I am proposing is a campaign. Each team will be working together to fight there way to the announcer, whilst still holding a friendly competition as to who can complete their objectives first. Each of the original teams can only have 9 members (only one of each class), and require skilled coordination on the part of the team.
Another idea, related to the above, is the addition of the third team, made up of new mercs (each with a whole new look) who are attempting to impede the progress of the RED and BLU teams. Players on this team will play like normal, while players on the RED and BlU teams will be given certain bonuses to make up for their lack of numbers (explained in game as simply being vets as opposed to the new, less skilled mercs).

Well, that's it. Any opinions, suggestions, and critiques are welcome.

I would say more of a 4 player campaign that you chose which merc you want to be but you work together to fight through a modified half life 2 game. with its enemies and everything.

You could set it in the half life universe, too. A small group of the most skilled members of the resistance band together to free Freeman, or at least set the stage for Freeman's next apperance. set just before the beginning of Episode 3. Would be a cool way for Valve to segway into 3.

That'd be pretty cool. And along the way, subtly tie TF2 into the Half-Life universe? Pwease?

Ay, I don't want to sound like a spoil-sport. But... Please, no.

Team Fortress Maplestory is full enough as it is. Adding a campaign means that things get serious and that people are blamed when they leave the game.

This is not fun. TF2 is a comedy game. The sheer value is the multiplayer mode of Red vs. Blu, clashing against eachother without knowing that they are the same.

If I enter a map, I just want to play on the side I'm on. It focusses on competition, it's balanced on competition. There shouldn't be any co-op campaign because bots suck and Australians choose their kings by fighting kangaroos.

On the idea of combining the universes, one thing we would want to decide on is which style to use- TF2 or Half-life?

(Talking about the tf2-centric idea) It's really only cooperative in the form of cutscenes, the rest of the time its three teams: The BLU team attempting to complete their objectives before the RED team, and vice versa, and the New Mercs, who simply try to impede the progress of the RED and BLU with their superior numbers.
