What is so bad about weed? Why isn't it legal yet? (in North America) I mean, weed doesn't cause as much damage, unruly behavior, or lifelong debilitation as alcahol. But alcahol is still legal, and weed isn't. I don't know anymore.

weed seems to be shunned upon more than alcohol based upon its pre-existing stereotype/reputation. people also say that its a gateway drug(not saying it is) and that it causes more harm than alcohol. in my opinion, as long as any drug is taken in safe amounts than it isn't dangerous(with some exceptions...) it will probably never be legalized though

Marijuana won't be legal in the States until the government learns how to control the flow. I'm happy my country is a little more lenient though as small amounts marijuana up here in the sunny beaches of Canada is legal if you follow a ridiculous amount of guidelines and rules.

As for weed not being legalized is probably because of the social stigma assigned to it, and the fact that we've been fighting this "drug war" for so long, that backing out now would just further show our lack of commitment on things. People would cry out "What next?"

I'm not sure if this argument is sound, the amount of money spent on the NHS (if English) on alchohol and smoke related things far outweighs the tax they put on cigarettes and alchohol. If weed was legalised it could be taxed similarly without the healthcare costs.

For cancer possibly. But having done a research project that involved some NMR work on metabolites that was tied to a prof who focused on HIV research, I can say that an AIDS cure is pretty hard to come up with. BTW, nice avatar.

I think weed in North America is in some ways like R-rated games in Australia. A lot of people (especially people under 50) know that it's bullshit to outlaw it, but for some reason a lot of people (seems to be parents mostly) vote against it. It's kind of strange really. Do people honestly think that just because something is illegal it'll prevent teenagers from doing it?
