a /thread in the first post.

These "I lost faith in humanity threads and posts are so common, I'm losing count. Just because one person is acting dickish doesn't mean everyone is.

Now that's just a pessimistic attitude! There are lots of good things about humans....erm... I'll get back to you on that one.

That actually happened? ....god, that's disgusting. That's not even a cool story to tell later. Like, if that guy told his friends later, they'd be like, "Dude... that's not cool." "Yeah man, you're kind of an asshole."

If I had a fucking penny for every time I heard the title of the thread, I'd be able to afford more entertaining activities than reading these threads.

People are assholes. Accept the fact, prepare yourself for that fact every time you see someone, and you live to be happy.

So...a tweener had a sappy philosphical revelation? How trite.

This is so silly, close to the old "I like animals better than people" crap.

Why do you care
Kopikatsu said:
...for many reasons!

It would take forever to go over all of them, so...I'll just give an example of what happened at work the other day. There was a guy who ordered a large soda, so, I gave it to him. Then after drinking part of it, he asks how much it is, despite there being a GIANT menu sign behind the counter, and so I tell him, and he says "Nah, that's too much."

So...he dug through the tip jar for the cash, handed it to me, then left. I was so stunned that I didn't even say anything...and he didn't even give me enough to pay for the thing. (Sales tax...)

Why are people such assholes?
Why do you care ripped off a fucking fast food corporation? I hope you put the tip money back in the jar...

To be honest, you sound like a person who considers himself above others and better then most people, quite arrogant I say.
Personally, I'm probably the fool, I'm probably the person who is the stupid one, the asshole as you might say, but hey I make mistakes.
The thing is that I don't consider myself above anyone else, I consider everybody an equal and I let the proove themselves in my eyes, not that it matters of course, but I won't make friend's with you if you for instance bully people.
Or if you're a ginger.
Just sayin'

I laugh at how ironic this thread is.

So many people talking down to the OP, even if he did state a sweeping generalization (which he really didn't, he merely pondered why "people" are assholes, not actually accusing all people). I feel like far too many people were somehow offended.

Most of you didn't take the time to politely explain why you disagree with his point of view. Yes, this idea may be a dead horse to you, but you aren't all people. Some people enjoy discussion about these things.

As for me? I would have to agree with the OP. Everyone can use the "so... 1 incident = all the time. LOL OK BRO" In actuality, there is a large amount of evidence supporting the claim that humanity is pretty much in the shit. The internet is one of the greatest of these supporting pieces. It is full of immature trolls who can act however they want across anonymous communications, all while worrying about a very low percentage of possible repercussions.

Yet here we have an example of someone being an asshat in real life, and when someone decides to contemplate what ramifications one small action could have on our species as a whole, he gets chewed out by a bunch of people who clearly have had enough of debating this topic.

If that is the case, why bother responding/reading it in the first place?

"Why are people such assholes?" is almost a hypocritical statement in and of itself. Perhaps instead of being pissed at a bad customer, and then stating that all of humanity is terrible, you could look past one idiot and realize the vast majority of people are pretty alright. Obviously you regard yourself as somewhat good, since you have values you use to judge others - ever think that you're not the ONLY intelligent person?

Christ, I'm sick of these threads, especially from people in retail. We get it, you deal with a lot of idiots.

And I don't care.

This is nothing but a tired juvenile revelation that most people come to realise is full of crap.

I can't help but feel that such an accusation as 'people are assholes' or 'I have no faith in humanity' requires such a profound lack of empathy as to border on the sociopathic. More of an incitement upon the speaker than the subject of their ignorant, arrogant bile.
That's just more proof that I may be a sociopath, because I have found zero reason to have faith in society. The world crumbles apart around people and they are completely oblivious to it, only concerned with their own gain.

One guy's an asshole, so everyone's an asshole? Sure, why not?
Granted that guy sounded like a huge dick, but that doesn't mean everyone is. Take solace in the fact that if he pulls something like that somewhere else, he'll probably get the piss kicked out of him.

I have a good example of a person like that.

He is a good friend of mine and friend of our family but if you spend to much time with the guy, he starts to become inconsiderate and hard to deal with. This happened recently and it went like this.

He, my sister and her boyfriend were all hanging out one night while I was out and about. Not uncommon for him just to be around relaxing at our home. He comes up with the idea to go to McDonald's and that the 3 of them should all good. They decide to go but he says that his car has no gas and the should take my sisters car. She says that is fine but makes him drive (it was later in the evening and a beer or two had been consumed). They drive out to the McDonald's pull up to the drive through and as they are waiting for the next car to move so that they may order. He turns around and utters " So I don't have any money do you think you could get me something?" My sister thought to herself " (I should have known why else would he have had no gas...)" She says fine I will get you something. Then they pull up to the intercom and he places the order.

-Teller
" Hello welcome to McDonald's, may I take your order?"

-Friend
" Hi I would like a Big Mac meal, um super-sized and a quarter pounder on the side."

-Teller
" OK, anything else sir?"

-Friend
" Yes one sec... (turns to sister and boyfriend) what did you guys want?"

(They stare at him with blank faces in bewilderment as how that was his definition of getting him something...)

QFT.

Yes, there are great people in the world. Yes, life isn't innately negative, and looking at things negatively all the time isn't how to go about it. But to go through life blissfully thinking that most people care about you in even the slightest sense is naive.

The world is based on two words: "Shit happens", the only way to enjoy it is after you learned to deal with it.
