Chess has often been called one of the frameworks of many strategists throughout history. Coinciding with this is the belief that it improves one's thinking ability alongside the notion that it shows one how to play thoroughly ahead.

I think this is all rubbish for the following reasons.

1. The game is based upon pure "fairness" and the moment.
2. No strategizing truly goes into effect because it's based on a system of "rules" so to speak. No freedom in being allowed to perform as one may.
3. The game is one big assumption that everyone in life is equal to their adversaries.

Anyone else share this view with me?
I share your view to.

It'd save a hell of a lot of lives if generals just played chess instead of actually getting soldiers to fight.
Why do we have to kill people to settle our countries' disputes anyway? Why can't we play chess, or, in a less stupid way, just FREAKING TALK THINGS OUT. God, sometimes it can feel like Leatherface is going through a breakup during war.

Saying there's no strategy is stupid. It doesn't simulate war, sure, but then in all honesty neither do games like modern warfare or civilization. Stick to checkers.

Chess? Everybody knows that all conflicts should be settled with a Pokemon battle. This includes international disputes. If this fails, break out the Yu-Gi-Oh decks.
That's a presidential campaign right there! =D

It supposedly makes you intelligent because you've got to figure out how to move in a rigid set of rules.

Or something like that, it's not like you're supposed to take the rules themselves and apply them to life, just to get used to working with a set of rules, but not always that one set.

I can answer this, having a useless memory bank myself.
All the game based knowledge pushes out memories about things people are going to remind you about anyway (birthdays) and minor issues, such as being asked to buy snacks.

1. Fairness? It depends on the skill and mindset of the player. Chess is a mind game. And what's this moment thing you are talking about? The whole point of chess is too think beyond the moment.
2. Well, everything is based on rules. Do you think everyone is free? The rules of the game are so that one may strategies to achieve goals. It's not a war game like Warhammer. They're supposed to move differently which brings on the player to think and maneuver them appropriately. Do you get upset about Suduko because you can't place letters or icons in the squares or the fact they all go to 9?
3.You've taken it way too literal. The whole 'metaphors' that go with the game are talking about general tactics or individual pieces.

I feel, all in all you hate something for the reason it exists.
