Love the concept. A documentary broken into bite sized chunks. Normal bite sized, not the size of chunks these ladies are used to.

Sasha Grey?

What the pants???

EDIT: Okay, so...five pornstars, a stripper, and a hairdresser playing DnD?

This is one crazy idea for a show.

EDIT, EDIT: CHRIST HOLY BANANA, I EVEN RECOGNIZE THE BLONDE GUY SITTING BEHIND THEM AT 4:56. He's a pornstar too.

WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE
you watch too much porn ¬_¬

you are god!

I'm going to assume this is the Escapist dipping it's feet in new waters to see what it may or may not bring to the community...

I'm sorry but I feel this is not one of those things..

I felt slightly offended at the concept... Well.. In fact this is pretty much up there with playboy playing a trailer to a game over a half naked girl posing.. Wait, didn't some one from the escapist post an article about it, saying the same thing? I'm not being snarky here, my memory seriously did fail me..

I've read earlier in the comments that some one had said that this is to show that even porn stars are normal people that can have nerdy tendencies... Well.. Of course they are normal people... If they were normal Fire fighting midget donkeys.. I'd be a little bit concerned, and as far as I'm concerned, everyone who's anyone has nerdy tendencies... If you can go around saying that you don't, then obviously you're trying way too hard to please society with a false image of who you really are...

Keep in mind that I'm using the universal "you" in that statement, and that it is not directed to anyone specific.. ((Besides cheeseburgers... Darn those cheeseburgers for being so delicious...))

The reason I feel it's a "Foot dipping in water." situation, is the fact that this was brought to the Escapist so randomly... There was no hint of it before hand that I was aware of... It just sort of popped up saying "Surprise!!" Which.. With past experiences, usually when something as big as the Escapist does something like that... It's something they're not really trying to take seriously..

Though I may be wrong with that, and the ones responsible for allowing such content on the site had a serious plan behind it.. Then.. Well I feel ashamed that it has come to this..

After reading through the comments, I can safely feel I can speak for a lot of people when I say "Please don't..." My reason being. Yes you may have caught a small or even a reasonable amount of viewers with this pilot, but you have to think about the site's viewers as a whole... I could actually see people starting to leave the site if more and more surprises like this pop up...

I apologize for any spelling or grammar errors as I type this.. I'm actually pretty sleepy right about now xD

hahaha, you'd rather watch cloverfield... ahem, sorry... >.>
anyway, good post though, i liked your argument.

but reading other peoples posts, i have a feeling i will be watching the next episode, just to see if their storytelling, or roleplaying, gets interesting at any point... but this episode didn't appeal to me at all. I read the title and thought "this actually sounds like it could be pretty funny"... after reading the description about them playing D&D, i thought maybe it was a spoof, like that flash animation with the Final Fantasy characters.

oh, another thing. Did anyone's escapist not work/go really slow then not work yesterday? mine did... every other website i normally go on worked fine... i'm not sure if that was due to the mass amount of traffic of people watching, commenting on and re-watching Zero Punctuation. But i actually have a gut feeling its something to do with the fact that at least 4 video series get updated on a Wednesday

Wow. You really put a lot of thought into that. Good for you.
Fascinating what this funny stuff between your ears is capable off, right? But don't sweat it, giving no answer at all sometimes is answer enough.

You spelled "Advice" wrong.
Advice and two other words, I'm aware of that. So, your personal achievement of the day aside, is there anything of value you have to say or is this as far as you can go?
I'm sorry, are you still typing? Can you hear that? That's the sound of me not giving a shit.

You know, now that I've actually found the DnD with Pornstars blog, I'm actually willing to give this another chance. I hate DnD, but it's essentially about trying to run a nice game with a bunch of people, neither of whom play a lot but each of whom has a different level of knowledge; one used to play a long time ago, one doesn't but is used to playing video games so knows some things that apply, one has never done this fantasy thing etc. The DM has some nice tips and tricks, but towards the mechanics and the social aspect, and I love his weird way to randomly generate content. (The streets are shaped like the number that shows up on the dice? Fantastic!) I spent all night yesterday reading it and it's very amusing.

That said, my previous comment some five pages ago stand. Hop up the technical part, I can't make out what's happening and can't hear a thing. If the Escapist is paying you to do this use that money to buy some serious recording equipment, you know?

Here's the thing that confuses me:

When did The Escapist turn into a comedy site?

Last time I checked cracked.com was someplace way over yonder. Where are people getting this idea that all videos on the escapist have to be humorous. I understand the complaints of it being boring, but it was never really passed off as humor, so why are people judging it as such?

This also sort of applies to the "REMOVE" crowd. If you don't like it, you don't have to watch it. The Escapist can have as many or as few videos as they like, and if Game Dogs has shown us anything it's that a large group of people bitching isn't going to stop people from making the vids.As it stands there are some people who enjoy it and you are just going to have to deal with that.

Well, that came out of nowhere. Maybe they're making a statement that the people who play DnD are also the main demographic of porn too, which is a little insulting. Though I'm ashamed to admit I recognised the girl...

Other than supplying me with additional fap material ideas... didn't know who these girls were until now... I don't know if I am going to keep watching. We'll see.

Weather you love it or it's just not your thing, we really appreciate you all watching our show. It's really fun for us to share these moments with you. There's an Interview that posted on http://io9.com today that explains the series better.
Thanks again,

Welcome to The Escapist ;) Don't sweat the nay-sayers, not everything is for everyone. I think you're all on to something here & this could really take off if you do it right.

Coming from a similar adult entertainment background (behind the camera, that is) I find it really amusing that people are shocked, SHOCKED! That adult film actors are (GASP) real people that do real things.

See all you D&D geeks? Hot women play too. There's hope for you after all ;)

From a technical point of view however, Zak needs some lights. I'm a multimedia producer/photographer/filmmaker so I'm kind of a lighting whore, but the video looks pretty murky with just plain room lights. A couple of photofloods & a great big reflector would light everyone at the table quite nicely ;) Maybe another camera or two set up on tripods would help, too. The rest could be fixed in post. (Sigh) I'm such a video nerd.

Not that I need to tell you this, but keep doing what you're doing & fuck 'em if they don't like it! I for one look forward to watching the show evolve and it has nothing, NOTHING to do with the fact that I really dig women with tattoos who like to geek out.

Nope. Not a thing...
Yea, I'll tell you what I told Zak when he asked me to join the show. "What get paid to do what I love? F**k yea!" Sounds dorky but it was one of the two far fetched ideas I had when I was younger and as an adult I got to fulfill them. I totally shrieked with joy at my first DM (from high school) when we shot the first show. 15 years ago we thought it would be fun to record a game and turn it into a book (pre pod cast & you tube).

The lighting for the Sasha Segment does suck unfortunately. We learned our lesson and fixed it with the next Guest Star. And I totally know what you're talking about with Post production. It's what my boyfriend does for a living :) (super Nerd/burns in sunlight/video compositor using Nuke & Infernos) It will be a few weeks before we get there. This isn't the kind of thing you can just re shoot. Its a one shot deal. There are no saves or re dos. The thing about us is that we're not acting. There's no script and you TOTALLY get to see the reactions when we mess up. HAHA.

Stop by my blog: http://sexfoodandcomicbooks.com and say hi. Would love to hang out. OH and one more thing... I don't do porn anymore. Haven't for 6 months. I'm a comic book illustrator. That doesn't quite get covered in the show.

Yes, because if there's one thing porn does it's give things credibility.
Excellent point Megido. A more concise statement than my first draft reply.

I'm glad it was you this time, I was getting sick of whatshisface's attempts to goad me into an argument. Oh well, every bridge and every forum needs a Troll I guess, I just refuse to feed them.

Anyway, I've not had a chance to use Nuke yet, but I've been using After Effects for a while & it sounds like a great add-on. I don't run an SGI so I haven't played with Inferno. Sunlight? Are you talking about that big bright thing up in the sky that seems to come up over the horizon when I'm going to bed? Yeah I'm pretty sure I've heard of it.

What publications do you draw for? What software do you use? I'm in the market for a new tablet pretty soon, any recommendations? My Genius one has worn almost all the way through.I didn't know that could happen, but what do you want for a $60 tablet?

Good to hear the technical issues have been resolved, that's the problem with shooting on the fly. I like the idea of nothing being obviously scripted, and you still have plenty of time to polish things up & take it to the next level. (Next Level, get it?)

Just like with everything else, there will be people that love it, people that hate it, people that couldn't care less and people that wish they'd thought of it first. Of course you're going to get inflammatory remarks from smacktards that want to feel superior to you, (as evidenced in this forum) and my advice to them is: If you want to look down on someone, put a mirror on the floor.

Some ideas take time to grow, and I think you've got a good one. I think its success depends on just how interesting the banter between players is, and whether or not you're going to concentrate on the game action or the table action. Either of them could net some seriously entertaining back and forths, and yes, some arguments between D&D players (me included) can be seriously hilarious, especially when hardcore nerdism is involved ;)

Man, being accused of pretending to be a geek? How the hell does THAT work?

(And yes, The Terminator is worth watching until the tape breaks, then you can get the DVD)

i dont think there being porn stars/strippers/comic illustrators/hairdressers involved really adds or substracts anything from the series. i dont think anyone expects this series to ride on the fame of the participants doing other things. your professions seem to be a rather moot point in a series about your D & D campaign

the idea seems interesting, but as people before me have said, lighting could be better, and i found the camera to be a bit shaky. especially the parts where you look though the PHB are really unclear and didn't really seem to have any function

that said, i think this series could be good, or not, depending on the banter between players and how interesting the campaign is. we'll see.

so, all in all, bit of a meh start, but i think this series had potential

on the other hand, i'm just some random guy on the internet, so why should you care?

Or more likely, it is just a DnD game with a spin. I'm starting to doubt the people of the Escapist even know what a "reality show" is.

There are people who have put transcripts or recordings of their DnD games on the internet, and this is the same thing. For people who play, or run, a game of DnD it is actually kind of interesting. Yes, the players work in porn, just as there are DnD players who work in engineering, or who serve in the military; really it just shows the broad appeal of DnD. This video is more welcome on the Escapist than comments rife with spelling errors and misuse of Caps Lock.

Excuse me but who died and put you in charge? What makes you the person who decides what is and isn't welcome? You are in my eyes, just as bad, if not worse, than someone who types in all caps now please take your superiority complex with you and let the adults talk.
/rant

OT I'm not too sure about this, didn't get any laughs from me, but then again it might not be going for that approach. I'll give it a few more epiosodes before passing judgement.

... Kinda look for comedy or genius in the escapist movies...

This is just plain tacky and dull. D&D looks boring enough to play in my eyes (if you like it, nothing on you, before that attracts flame) but to sit and watch a bunch of strippers play it. I think your found something that competes against watching cricket.

Can't see it lasting myself.

Nice and interesting.

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to watch this with my friends like I usually do the escapist videos. I had to stop the video and watch it later by myself because I couldn't listen let alone concentrate through all the rabid guffawing about how "fake" it "had" to be, because apparently strippers and porn stars can't actually be real gamers.
Course none of them know that 3 of my exes were strippers so they didn't understand why I was so annoyed with them.

Personally I like it so far and applaud the Escapist for going with something like this. We love our web comics but as someone who has cast their lot in with the gaming industry I'm always pushing for people to see it in new lights, and to see the culture for more of what it really is, that it's more than the most basic stereotypes.

I have to be nakedly honest (lame pun intended) and admit that I ended up being more excited by seeing the girls that appeared to be vets and really know their stuff over to any of them being porn stars.
Yes, I am that kind of guy....my geek is that strong, girl is a porn star, that's fine....girl looks like she's faced her fair share of red dragons...okay now I'm turned on.

The one thing I am skeptical about is that you guys have Sasha playing a wizard unless I got that wrong? She's never played D&D before, I have to think that will go the same way I've seen it go with every first timer that plays a wizard....as in the other girls are going to be eating some fireballs in midst of combat at some point :p
