I love the part with the text message.

You missed it, I think. Kimberly says: "I'm throwing my fucking axe at her face" then starts rolling the dice. The heavy music is just there to make the moment more tense and "heavy". The "suggestive hand movement" is just her rolling the dice. And so then that way it's funnier when she misses.

Completely beside the general topic of conversation, but porn stars or no, they're way better than my group. Those guys seriously break me in the head...

I'm really enjoying the series anyway, I've watched it every week so far. It's almost adorable how strenuously people are complaining about it. It's like it makes them better people or something.

I was curious actually; do you ever play other RPG's, or just D&D?

Yes. I did get it, I'm not stupid. It just made me chuckle how she was rolling the dice and it was made to seem more 'hardcore' when I was giggling like a 4 year old about how it looks like she's "reading the manual".

Good episode, keep upping the quality and soon the rest of the Escapist will stop their bitching.

Forgive me, after reading endless whining in other peoples' comments on earlier shows about the "random" cuts and "random" blasts of music I was beginning to think I was the only one who had the cranial capacity to realize it actually makes sense.

Feels good to be wrong.

Been watching since the beginning, first time commenter though. Let the nay sayers nay say. There will always be those to whom complaining is a necessary part of life. I love the show. I could care less that it's porn stars involved. It's a group of fun people, playing D&D and I, for one, watch for the fun elements and inspirations for my own future adventures. Keep up the good work Mr. Sabbath et all. :) A totally satisfied fan.

The banner pretty much says it all. Actual people or otherwise, with or without feelings, you're being advertised as a spectacle to make a show with poor production seem more interesting.

Someone pointed out it'd get better at show #_____. I continued watching more out of curiosity. None of the complaints beyond the players day-jobs (minor in wake of production) are even being addressed and they're still there (DM, Camera Work, Boring Dialogue etc.)

Calling it flaming all you want, but I'm not alone in the middle of a crowd who offered genuinely supportive comments. Part of me is considering the possibility that it's too late for these episodes since their production probably completed well before these critiques. The other part of me sees the realistic prospect that the show garners enough hits to justify ignoring the criticism altogether.

...but honestly that's fine. If folks are entertained, let the rest eat cake.

This show seems to be more trying to take advantage of the average "nerd" stereotype.

"They like D&D, watching porn stars play D&D is probably more action than they've ever gotten! They'll love it!"

This sort of thing offends me somewhat because of that. Just saying "look, porn stars, watch them do something you like doing" is -not- an adequate premise for episodic content. Perhaps one episode, just as a joke, but making it a whole series is pretty sad.

I expect more understanding of their usual audience from the Escapist.
Yeah I totally agree. I mean they're pornstars, it's not like they're actual people or anything or could otherwise be interesting when they aren't naked...

I'm with you on this. If it was blurted in my face every time I see an ad for this show or if I hadn't seen any scenes of any of you, I'd think this is just a bunch of pretty girls playing D&D and having a laugh. That's fine, I like watching it and many others do.

I guess you'll just have to learn that you shouldn't feed the trolls. Eventually, they'll return to their bridges and sulk about how nobody likes them.

Hi, my first post here so you guys must be doing something right to inspire people to register just to have their say!

First i'd like to say that i like the premise - filming a D&D session - fantastic idea!

I think that people complain because D&D is something that gets very little coverage so when it is brought into the spotlight, fans want it to capture everything the game means to them - which is very difficult. So fair play to you for taking on that challenge - D&D IS a game to be enjoyed by anyone and, if played right, it can be a damn sight more entertaining than most books/films.

However, after watching your video i was a little dissapointed and as a long term D&D player (DM and player) i'd like to be so bold as to offer some advice. I'm saying this because i fully support the idea (wish i'd thought of it tbh :p) and i want to see it succeed.

Firstly i agree with
Tribalism said:

I know from past experience that this can kill the atmosphere for the players, spoiling the game - it has the same effect for the veiwers, perhaps because it's a reminder to D&D fans of how boring the game can be for some people. In fairness they're quiet but the fact they're there, not taking part is offputting.

Another thing you might want to consider is the episode length, the other escapist videos tend to be around 5-7 mins long i don't think anything would be lost if you cut out the worst two minutes of each show before posting. If you are ruthless and keep only the most entertaining bits people will be more inclined to watch.

I think you could expand on the player commentry (as it's a great idea) by using big brotheresque 'diary room' footage where you get the players to discusstheir thoughts and feelings on a particular action/decision (or even the whole session) privately and edit it in where relevent - it would genuinely make it more involving for the viewers. Also a brief synopsis at the start saying what happened last episode and another summing up the episode as a whole might be a good idea so the viewers can get an idea of where the characters are and what their quest/goal is.

Other than that i think that it has got genuinely better since the 1st episode, the players seem alot more into the game and it's great that people get a chance to see what the game is really like. I'll keep watching and i hope you take what i said on board with good faith :)

P.S - Alloil is slippery and would act as a lubricant (however an escape artist check might be needed to get the oil and apply it...) Item dimensions/weight should be worked out/written down when buying & not when using :p

Quotes of the week:

"If it's on the floor it doesnt count!"

"That's very D&D of you" - genius! :D

I'm sitting here reading through these comments, and something rubs me the wrong way about the haters. I know "haters" is a newish word thrown around a lot, but in this case, especially for the early posters and their comments, it seems true.

Normally, if someone doesn't like something, they just turn it off, change the channel, close the page, etc. But some people actually went way beyond "didn't like" and moved to some strong emotional state about it. There's anger, hatred, bile,...something else mixed into all of it.

At the very least its intentionally hurtful. I don't know where it comes from---jealousy that a guy gets to play dnd with hot women, repressed sexual feelings, anger towards women, a feeling of being ripped off that they found nothing to whack off to...I don't know what it is. But the level of anger/hate/bile in some of the early posts does seem to come from some other place not related to the video itself. Maybe it's just immaturity. Maybe its just the safety someone gets from being an anonymous asshole, doing unto others what others have done unto them sometime, some place, some where.

I noticed there was less hate posts after the girls themselves started posting, which makes me think that the hate came from some cold impersonal place in people, which went away somewhat once the people realized that these were actual human beings here that were being insulted, and who were insulted for doing nothing other than playing dnd and having fun with their friends.

People ask if there would be any show if the women weren't porn stars and strippers "gimmick". Let me ask the haters this: would there be as many hateful remarks if they weren't porn star and strippers? I mean, do you talk this sway about women in your life you have respect for? Or do you just seek out women for some screwed up reason you feel aren't worthy of respect to take out your bile and hate on?

If you get this worked up about something like a 6 minute show of people playing dnd that you feel the need to post hateful HURTFUL things about a bunch of friends having a good time, there's something seriously wrong with you.

If you don't like the camera editing, fine. If you want to compare it to the robot chicken peeps, fine. But the videos aren't gonna change their format that much it seems. This is the way its going to be. A lot of people like it, but it may not be for everybody. Take it or leave it. Go enjoy some other form of entertainment if you don't like it.

But if you feel the need to puke bile and hate at a bunch of women just for having a good time playing a game with friends, all because you don't have the decency as a human being in you to respect them as PEOPLE WITH FEELINGS because can't get beyond their day jobs, save yourself the post and go talk to a counselor. You need some help.

I don't like it because it's not funny and I don't play D&D. The reason I mention this is to give feedback, which is expected and necessary when it comes to web content. I'm not offended or anything, only bored out of my mind. But I guess fans can just say "Haters gonna hate" and ignore me, and I'm fine with that. What I wouldn't like ignored is my request for better narrative flow and actual humor.

o.o I'm a "hater"? Hmm... You do realize that it works both ways right.(looks at misslisa) The sheep seem to have a "hater" hating "haters" which makes her/him/it a "hater". There are probably more but misslisa makes me smile.

Strippers and porn stars is an occupation, a job, a way to make money for a living. You sheep act as if these jobs are a race. You sheep are the ones dehumanizing these woman, most not all of the "haters" are saying they are normal woman playing DnD. These woman are not a race called strippers or a new species of humanoids called porn stars. They are normal women and those are the occupation that have.

There are no strippers or porn stars like this ad/sign says. If there was they would be stripping and having sex within three minutes of the show starting.

As I said before once the DnD session begins you are not 'john the male dancer/lawyer', you are mer the mighty dwarven warrior. Your job, title, religion, political ideas, or anything out side the of your game means nothing, the only thing you bring into the game is your character and the character you play as.

So I ask why are you dehumanizing these DnD players and using the occupations they chose, as a way to get more traffic.

You sheep are very awful people and should be ashamed of your selves. (steps down from the stool and goes back to eating some cheesecake)

P.s. There is cheesecake on the table if anyone wants some! As I was taught sharing is caring... or was it caring is sharing... hmmm... Damn you care bears and your evil nazi plans! Damn you to plushie bear creature thing to hell!! (drops on my knees on a beach in front of a buried statue of liberty)

I swear. The "you only say mean things because it has X profession!" defense is getting way more repetitive than the "this show sucks cus it's using strippers for hits!" criticism.

It's very hypocritical to suggest those with critiques are ONLY focusing on the day-jobs, all the while ignoring a pretty organized, lengthy list a big demographic has put together unwittingly following every episode.

You know what I don't do? I don't play professional football. I also don't eat foods worldwide in exotic locations - I don't misdiagnose strange diseases three times before coming up with a stunningly simple cure once a week, all the while fighting my drug addiction either. Awww shucks I guess I can't watch the Super Bowl, Anthony, or the only good show left on FOX anymore. Because everyone knows: entertainment is only made for those directly involved. Right?

My "hateful" remarks, as well as a lot of other "flamers" concern the production more than the spectacle (although I do grow tired of a lot of folks suggesting it's existence is all in our heads). It's not "trolling" if you'd genuinely like to see something mature into something watchable.

Are we really going to just disregard all negative commentary, constructive or otherwise as pure bias? Is there an insecurity that insists the actors leap down the throats, guns blazing...

..why have a forum at all then? Just put up a Poll - with only one option.

While I'm fairly sure you're being rhetorical, I'd like to be snarky anyways.

Welcome to the internet. I personally don't know why you, me, or anyone else participating in forums engage in 'debate' but we continue to do just that. People make up their minds and those soft gooey casings become cold hard steel, tempered by refusal to admit defeat; especially in the face of anonymous peers whose respect is more precious than gold. This is a subject for another thread though, I just wanted to contribute something that my brain-meats cooked up after being triggered by the above.

Again, welcome to the internet, its srs bznss.

I always want to play. The show makes me want to staple the cameraman to the wall, haul the camera out of that anonymous cleavage and put it on a tripod, put more cameras in more places and simplify the editing down to choosing whether or not to show each part and if so which camera angle to use.

Maybe I have some issues left over from just how bad the Horizon: Megatsunami thing on the BBC was.
