For all those that didn't know, on May 8th (that's this Thursday!!) Wildstar, the upcoming mmo from Carbine Studios, will enter open beta. This is the perfect time to find out whether its the game for you before the official launch on June 3rd.

I've been in the beta for a long time and I believe that this game is going to revitalize the mmo-genre and provided years of entertainment to its players.

If you want a game that rewards skilled play and great group organisation then Wildstar is for you. If you what a game that provides a challenge to even the most hardcore veterans then Wildstar is for you. If you want a game where the best gear in the world won't save you if you suck then Wildstar is for you!

So come one, come all. Wildstar's gates are open. Last one to planet Nexus is a cupcake!!!

For more information about Wildstar go to: http://www.wildstar-online.com/ and for info about open beta: http://www.wildstar-online.com/en/news/open-beta-is-coming-may-8/

The next Wildstar enthusiast who repeats that godawful cupcake tag line is going to get pantsed until they are unconscious.

Escapist regulars...a great many of you are avowed MMO haters. Believe me when I assure you Wildstar is very, very, very much in keeping with the theme park MMO traditions you've been hating on for the last 10 years.

Did you spend a lot of time in some form of closed beta?

That's the only justification for promoting somebody elses game like this

I've seen a lot of Wildstar testers trying to raise up hype about the game just about everywhere, even to the point of trolling the ESO's subreddit to advertise their game.

I spent over a year in closed beta and really enjoyed my time, if I hadn't I wouldn't be recommending it. Also I apologise for my tone it is a tad too fanboyish but I was feeling quite enthusiastic when I wrote it. I agree with the other postersif you don't like this genre then don't touch this game you won't enjoy it. Buy I've never had this much fun in an mmo and fun is what games are about.

In that case it's fine.

I wonder, is it possible to keep up the monthly payments with ingame gold while still realistically enjoying the game? If I play, let's say, a couple of hours per day on average.

Because fuck if I'm going to pay 60 eur (unless they actually translated the usd-euro price properly) and then STILL pay monthly as well. It sickens me that both ESO and WS are trying to get away with this currently, and everybody seems to be fine with it

The CREDD economy is still speculatory at this point, as the price of CREDD, in game currency, will be set by the players and right now no one knows how much demand there'll be for it. But level cap can easily be reached during the free 30 days, and then money will come rolling in as a by product of max level activities so i think it will be possible. However anyone doing this would probably not have enough spare cash laying around for all the goldsinky stuff, but thats just cosmetics mainly. And at the very least it provides a legal alternative to shifty gold sellers.

As for the ethics of subscription fees, well there's always been two sides to it, one side who quite rightly see it as double dipping and squeezing the player base for cash and the other side who quite rightly see it as the necessary evil to cover the costs of servers, content developement and maintainance. My general rule of thumb with subscription fees is "Is there always something new and of high quality on the horizon showing me that money is being reinvested in the game and not just lining pockets." If there's a time when it looks like nothing new or good is coming then its time to unsubscribe.

I do agree that maintaining MMORPG's can be a costly thing, which is why I could bitterly accept monthly payments, but in that case an initial purchase is not justifiable to me
