The game was alright. My main problem was after all of that you become king/queen, but it didn't feel like I was the big boss. I really loved the choices while holding court and all, but I want more of that! I wish they would have let you deal with more trivial things like trails, or people who didn't agree with your rule, or rebuilding your kingdom after. I still liked the game overall. They stressed that becoming king/queen 'was only the start' though, but it felt like being king/queen was the beginning of the end.

Hello Escapist,

As the title implies, I just completed Fable 3, I don't know how to feel overall, as it didn't fill me with joy yet it didn't leave me disappointed, just dead in the middle of 'that was alright' now i loved Fable 1 and 2, but this one didn't really feel like those two in the sense of charm,I didn't feel the need to do sidequests as I did in the second and wasn't compelled to complete the game as soon as possible, bummer.

what did the escapist think of Fable 3?
Tee hee, you called me a King so I will respond :D

Personally I haven't played Fable three, and from what I have heard from everyone else I don't think I will. Remarkably I have a hypothesis on the matter! Perhaps you didn't enjoy the game as much as you would have liked because you went into it with a certain level of expectation. Alas we should never have high expectations of games (or movies and books) because if it turns out to be not what you were expecting you will, in most cases, not like the game even if it was okay. So (as you said in your comment) you loved Fable 1 and 2, so you would most likely expect the same kind of game for the sequel (you already set your expectations for the game to emulate its predecessors) alas, when the game turned out to be different to your expectations you didn't enjoy it as much as you would have liked. This doesn't mean the game is necessarily bad, it just means it wasn't what you wanted. example: My friend showed me the movie the Orphan, I had expected it to be a violent, gut wrenching gore-horror (that is usually his choice in movies) so when it turned out to be entirely different, I didn't enjoy it, I knew it was a good movie I just couldn't enjoy it.

Of course Fable three could just be terrible designing on the game writers and game makers part, but still, I think what I had previously said would be nice to think about next time you raise your expectations for a game.

Hope you had a Merry Christmas :D

Huge disappointment. As TC said, it wasn't exactly "bad" or "unfun", it just didn't feel "whole". It felt like pieces of a Fable game. It was missing some of the things I've always enjoyed about Fable games (like starting as a kid!). There weren't many places to go. Real Estate management was even more tedious than the mining minigame in Mass Effect 2. And the non-ending was awful, as was the sequence where you have to start keeping your "promises".

The games have certainly been getting progressively worse, but the dropoff from 1 to 2 was small, whereas the dropoff from 2 to 3 was catastrophic.

i finished the game awhile back and i was disappointed it seems that with every installment more of what i loved of fable is being taken out such as health bars magic( i mean the large selection from the first game) and the mini map

I actually thought this was the best of the three, honestly. I am just waiting for some worthy DLC to come out...

I loved this game. I liked gathering friends, doing quests, buying up real estate. I have 10,000,000 gold in the treasury when I first became Queen. I was all set.

And then the dreaded evil came, and I poked it with my sword once, and it keeled over and died. WHAT. THE. HELL! The ending to the game left me so deflated that I haven't picked it up since. I was all set to play through a second time, but that final battle is a joke. From what I understand, Fable II suffered from the same problem. So far, only The Lost Chapters has apparently been able to end a game correctly.

I feel the lack of the need to do sidequests come from the fact that you're a fucking king/queen, and people are asking you to dress up in a chicken suit and run the fuck around town.

I liked Fable 3, and I have to say I pretty much completely agree with you.

gameplay was still the same as ever.
graphics, still the same, maybe a 'slight' boost?
Decision system was overhauled to be MUCH better IMHO.
Voice acting is better.
Level designs is somewhat improved, but somehow the world feels... smaller.
Story was building up for something great!... And then it ended like it did.

In short, it felt like fable II, half good, half bad.

I feel like, if they improved combat and gave the story one on par with Fable II and made the world more open and opportune for exploration, we'd have a damn near perfect game. Casual core RPG's can be a lot of fun and Fable is a sign that there's potential for them to be improved without being too pointlessly complicated for the casual players but not painfully dull for long time gamers.

121 day skip... 121 day skip... 121 day skip... *twitches*

Edit: I was saving that money up to buy houses and then donate when the day was near. Planning to turn that game in tomorrow.

Its a pretty good game so far. It did have to take back seat for a while when Fallout came out by I've gotten back to it.
I've found that some of the enemies are complete bullshit. Fighting the Hob Summoner, Elite Bandit, or Hollow Man Summoner is impossible to do with out being knocked out. This isn't helped by the awful blocking system.
I descided to be the good guy first time thru, and noticed there's no danger in the country finance threat as long as you've bought every property in the game (as I did).
So now im hunting down every gnome, while farming 6 mil. gold from rent, and I still have over 300 days left on the clock.

EDIT:
Also the map sucks! it works in some areas and shows all the properties, but too often it gave incorrect information, and was crippled by the lack of any kind of compass

Well I had a different experience with side quests, fable 3 and mass effect 2 being pretty the only games that have ever had me wanting to do side-quests for fun more then just to grind for rewards or xp.

I think fable set some big shoes to fill, and they arent really putting in as much effort as they used to, think:

Fable: your a hero, live as a hero... oh wait heres your sister now live some more...wait did he just say he knows something about you, why was that guy hiding from another good guy... holy crap that guys evil!? Omygod the leader of the guild is bad too (generic end of the world squence) now you have to gather soles, to slay a dragon... :O

Fable2: get other heros... you got first hero... oh no second hero been kidnapped by bad guys... go see the bad guys atrocity's for yourself and a cool ship blowing up sequence... get third hero...ONLY fight alongside all three hero's... cool refrence to heaven and hell... bad guy rants, choose ending.

Fable 3: Rebel rebel reble fable one refrence reble some more hey look theres that guy from before, off to sea, cool scene about the real bad guy rebel, hey look your king, build army, climactic battle, end

The only scene I felt like a rbel was right before I was crowned... Instead of recruting anyone could I not... you know, see them fighting gaurds for once?

I've read in many places that the game is worse than Fable 2. [lik=http://unrealitymag.com/index.php/2010/10/29/why-fable-3-is-an-embarrassment-to-video-games/]Here[/link] is a lengthy (but funny) take on a guys experience playing the game. He outlines everything that is making me not want this game.
To be fair, that guy has also essentially stated Fable 3 is better than Dragon Age: Origins.

It wasn't as good as Fable 2. By extension, not as good as the first Fable.
But yeah, the guy does sum up what is wrong with Fable 3.

Fable 3 is not as good as fable 1, but better than Fable 2. sort of. I f could remember what happened in Fable 2 then I would know for sure. Just watch AngryJoe's list of 32 reasons why he hates Fable. All of the reasons are legitimate, minus the one about the Sanctuary. I myself have 35 things in Fable 3 that need to be fixed in order to create a far superior game, in a less rant-ish tone. It more like a "wtf are you doing with your time" tone, because it appears as if Lionhead studios runs out of time and money halfway through development of each game.

Sunset house is in the swamp place, just to the side of the trenches before you reach the hippie sanctuary, each of the statues needs to be moved four times... I say this because theres no indication or logic to this...

Driftwood can only be accessed through the bridge you build in memory of 2, go to the back of the place the gypsie camp used to be...

Sunset house was done really well actually... the entire building is a puzzle and the bit where you step into the reflection to the sound of shattering glass is the way fable should be...

To find the house, the Hero must travel from Mourningwood, with an entrance being along the road through the cemeteries, and up to the left if heading from the Fort toward the village, past the turn off to the Max and Sam quests.

what did the escapist think of Fable 3?
Sort of two steps forward, one-and-a-half steps back. Part of the problem is that they decided to simplify things a bit too much.

Game got off to a too-slow start. Fable 2 started off slow but once it properly got going, it properly got going. Fable 3 gradually introduces us to weapons and spells as if their system is really complicated... which it isn't.

Once it got going it was generally an improvement and I really enjoyed some of the early quests. One thing I enjoy are quests that come across as stories. Fable 2 had a great bit in one of the DLC where you go inside a cursed snowglobe and Fable 3 has the role-playing mission. I would love to see more stuff like this or more missions based on fairy tales.

One thing I'm a bit annoyed about is the DLCing of really basic stuff. Okay, new costumes and dog packs I'm cool with. They're purely cosmetic changes and if you really want to pay for a Highlander costume than more power to you. But when I opened all the Dye Pack chests only to discover some rather noticeable gaps in my dye display (most noticeably black) which can only be filled by shelling out more money... well, that's a bridge too far. This doesn't come across as added content, it comes across as trying to exploit the OCD among us who can't bear to see those four mission gaps in their dye collection.

And the game collapses at the end where they decide to focus on fiscal policy and not adventuring. I know what they're getting at, but when the answer to their moral dilemma is "plug in your controller and leave your 360 on over-night", then you really haven't created much of a dilemma. It all comes down to how long player feel like fucking about without advancing the plot. I was making something like 50,000 gold every five minutes, so to raise the 6.5 million would require about 10 hours of fapping about.

But I still think there's tons of potential here. I would love to see them expand the Sims style interactions even more with more mini-games. I would like to see them present a tougher challenge with the combat (I don't mind the Lego style death penalty, but even Lego offers harder fights). I would love to see more personality types in the Kingdom and greater customizations for NPCs (the attractiveness meter is kind of silly and I would like to see NPCs who react to your wealth, your evil/good meter, even your weight... so even if you're a fat bastard who hangs around in pubs, there's going to be some man or woman who finds this appealing). And I would love to see them utilize more creativity in crafting side-quests. And take a step back from low-content DLC.

Honestly, Fable III was actually the first Fable game I really liked. I know that's a rare and unpopular opinion, but what can I do? I liked it. It wasn't bogged down by all the things that got in the way of my fun in the last two games. Plus, the voice acting and memorable characters were a welcome addition. Some of the side quests were genuinely funny and entertaining too.
