I'm new to downloading things off of PSN and I bought Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare. Little did I know I had to own the game, which I don't, and now I can't play.

Has this ever happened to you.

Yeah, it's happened to me ... and I'm guessing a LOT of other people ..

Even irl, 'cos people at game stores seem to have to ask "do you know you need X to play this game?" as policy hereabouts.

I have often got a game that my computer couldn't handle. Nice excuse for a new computer component though.

I bought games my PC couldn't run but was always weary of Expansions

At least it's an excuse to buy another game and for you it's one of the best this year

I got Arma 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 I can't run very well so I can't play either.

Not a wise move but when I get a new pc in the future I'll be ok.
Bad Company 2? That's weird because I have a 5 year old, low quality (for then) graphics card and it runs great for me. I was stoked when I found out. Then again maybe I'm just a wizard.

Well, my Mum bought me the expansion to AoE3 and i didn't even have the game. She did it because the tag on the box that said "expansion" was covered by a sale sticker.... i still have i and its un-used.

Heh, I was <-> this close to buy Battlefield Bad Company 2 from Steam, until I made a bit of research and found out that the game is very dependant on CPU powuh and I still use my good ol' Pentium D.

I bought Serious Sam HD Gold instead and I'm glad I did.

A few days ago, a friend told me about a website doing it's very own charity bundles that included 2 music albums and 2 games, but this time, the accepted fee was $0.00, so, the prick inside me went ahead and I bought the thing, it included 2 games, Aztaka (a platformer Metroidvania style) and Miner Wars (a combat space simulator, similar to EVE Online in graphics, with fully destructible environments).

I downloaded the thing, using 3 different browsers and a download manager and it didn't worked at all, it always said the file was corrupt. As for Miner Wars, I had to download the game separately from their website, I downloaded and installed it, only to find out that PowerPoint runs much more smoother than this. I hope that it's the game itself, as it's still on pre-alpha phase, but it was a bummer to find out I couldn't play the thing.

And belive me, my PC isn't state of the art, but I can play Mass Effect 2, New Vegas, StarCraft 2 and Civilization V just fine.

Bought Amnesia Dark Descent, found out that my laptop is one of the few cards that doesn't have some shader capability or some nonsense. Had to wait 2 months before I could go home and install it on my desktop.

That I can remember, only on purpose. I've occasionally bought stuff that I knew wouldn't run on my computer, but only because it was marked down ridiculously on sale and I knew I'd be getting a new CPU/video card/whatever in the not-too-distant future. I don't think I've ever even had the opportunity to do that on a console, because the only one that's even connected to the Internets is my Wii, and I've never bought any downloadable stuff for it.

Well I've downloaded a couple demos that aparently my laptop wasn't able to handle. But I've never bought an add-on to the game without the game. I try to make sure I have everything I may need before I buy the game.
