Definitly get Mass Effect 1 and 2, some of the best games I have ever played. You should also get Red Dead Redemption and Fallout New Vegas.
If you like good graphics with some pretty good gameplay, try out Crysis 2.
The Assassins Creed Series is also pretty good too (Assassins Creed 1 & 2 and Assasins Creed: Brotherhood)
I also have two more games to recommend to you. If you like the survival/horror genre you should try out Dead Space 1 and 2, pretty good games.
Oh yeah. Also try out Portal 2 (you can find the first Portal on Xbox Marketplace if you want that one too), but I personally prefer Portal on the PC.

Halo ODST for a great single-player campaign, Halo Reach for awesome multiplayer, Gears of War 2 has a fun campaign and above-average multiplayer. Armored Core: For Answer is awesome, Crackdown is hilarious, Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2 are great if you like that kind of game, but i don't personally recommend MW2. Dead Space is great, Just Cause 2, Protoype and GTA4 are all great sandbox games, HAWX is great if you like arcade flight sims, Mass Effect 1 and 2 are must-haves, Earth Defense Force 2017 is a blast, Fracture is fun, those are the only ones that relly come to mind.
Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena/Escape from Butcher Bay. The first game came out the same year as Halo 2, and was largely forgotten. It's an amazing blend of stealth and gunplay, and definitely worth the $10-$15 you'd spend on it. The Assault on Dark Athena includes the original game, re-rendered in 1080p.
Split/Second. I'm gonna echo this one, as it's an amazing game all around. That, and the people who play it online aren't bigoted tools who question your sexual orientation. That's a huge plus for me. I cannot recommend it enough.
