Way back in 2002 I remeber my dad taking me to see a movie called spirited away, now I was only 8 or 9 so at the time I didn't understand the movie and it was my first exposure to japanese culture, I liked the art but after leaving had no clue what happened, though recently while in tesco, I saw the movie in a bargin bin, immediatly recognised it and bought it. After watching this I want to kill my childhood self, it was beutiful, moving and just a pleasure, now I want to ask if anyone else could recommend another movie from Hayao Miyazaki it would be greatly appreciated and if anyone could tell me of a similar experience, thanks

Why did you want to kill your childhood self? Only because you didn't understand it back then?

OT: I don't watch that much anime, but the Internet could probably help find you another movie.

Princess Mononoke. In my opinion, that's his best. But, I'm not really that into anime anymore, so don't trust my judgement too much on this.

I actually saw spirited away about 6 years ago because I heard about it on tv, I watched it and I didn't really get it. But a few years later I watched it again and I'm still not sure what the part with Haku being a river was about, or everything possibly being psychological, but I did enyoy it more than before.

Yup Spirited Away is an awesome movie, probably Hayao best.I think Howl's Moving Castle is also made by him, which is another great movie.

Howls moving castle<Kiki's Delivery Service<Princess Mononoke<=Spirited away
Watch them all. Most or all are on video google.com
There are others like My neighbor Totoro and Castle in the Sky but I've yet to see those. You can bet they're awesome though. Studio Ghibli's like Pixar, You may have your favorites, but They've never mad a less-than-great movie.

I haven't tried in a couple of years so maybe it's time to try again

I saw that movie many years ago, when I was still very young too. It was part of a marathon, with two other excellent anime movies (that were similar).

If only I could remember the names...they were equally good though.

Whisper of the Heart, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Porco Rosso, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Grave of the Fireflies... a whole bunch were released in a collection a couple of years ago. I bought them all and adore them.

here:

Laputa: Castle in the Sky

Ponyo

Princess Mononoke (My favorite)

EDIT: i remembered! Kiki's Delivery service!
(Not sure if he made Howl's Moving Castle. 95% sure he didn't, 'cause it was based off a book.

My favourite too. Some are wonderful, whilst Kiki's Delivery Service and one or two others are lovely, but have a little less substance to them. Not a major complaint, just remember they're made for kids when you watch them. My Neighbour Totoro is another excellent one.

I love Spirited Away. Such a great movie. I definitely recommend Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, and I hear good things about My Neighbour Totoro.

If you liked the animation style, The Cat Returns is one of the newer works and is a charming story about nothing inparticular.

Enjoy your new discovery and let no-one else question you over your choice :D

If you like epic then try Laputa: Castle in the Sky. Especially if you're a Final Fantasy VII/ Grandia fan. You'll notice many peculiar similarites. Nausicaa is similarly epic.

My personal fav is Porco Rosso. Even though it's sold as a children's film it's actually a lot more mature and political than many people think.

If you have any children that you need to look after then watch My Neighbour Totoro. I would argue it's the best 'children's' film ever. Not much of a plot but that's what's so clever about it. Kids don't care about plots. They just want to be entertained. And Totoro does it by the bucket load for kids and adults.

Also, worth mentioning he recently released a new film 'Ponyo on a Cliff'. I think it's already been released in US cinemas but we in the UK have to wait until April 2010!

Really though the only Ghibli films not worth seeing are Howl's Moving Castle and Tales of Earthsea.
