I just ordered Chrono Trigger DS instead of Pokemon Soul Silver. Good choice?

I'm going on a trip across the US in a week and to pass the time during long drives and the flights there and back I decided to buy a new portable time sink. It was a toss-up between Chrono Trigger and Pokemon Soul Silver (or Heart Gold, but that's unimportant) and I ended up with CT.

For me it came down to wanting a compelling story (which I hear CT has and I know Pokemon lacks), but I can't be sure that it will hook me in, whereas with Pokemon my nostalgia would certainly have helped, as well as the obviously addictive gameplay. Was this the right decision?

Also, when you guys have these dilemmas how do you figure out what to do?

Both are absolutely amazing titles. You haven't mad e a mistake provided you play Soul Silver (or Heart Gold) at a later date =p

Though depending on the length of your trip, so far as finishing the game goes chrono trigger is definately longer than Soul Silver, unless you wanna really bury time in it then SS is the obvious choice because gotta catch em all...

Silver/Gold are excellent Pokemon games that OTHER Pokemon games need to barrow more from (more then 1 region, night and day and so on)

16 Gyms + 2 Elite 4 runs + Red = Giant pile of shit to do.

Hence I love em, and find all other pokemon games lesser to them. (Still generally very good titles though)

Oh god, I'm going to get stoned to death for this: I did not like Chrono Trigger at all. A borefest with ugly cutscenes, logicholes that are not explained (and if they are then fucking late) and a lot of little annoyances..

It's okay, I'm right there with you. I'll hold the shield while you whack at them with a long stick!

Have you played Pokemon Silver? Then you've played Soul Silver. At least CT is something new, and, while I haven;t actually played any CT games, Pokemon is nothing but fuckin' grinding. Nostalgia will only go so far...

And if all else fails, take some books with you. I'd suggest the Ice and Fire series. Great books, and long to boot.
