So we all know about the "horror" genre of some dude in a dark place with pop up monsters that go BLARGHH!! Of course there are some exceptions. What are the scariest, most unsettling games(or parts of a game) that really forced you to form a brown smelly solid in your underpants?

Mine has to be the Crystal Tombs from Poacher. In a game where most of the dialog is funny and witty and not much of it takes itself seriously comes with skin crawling level. Every time I miss a wall jump with my light on and I hear that shriek I can't help but go UGHH and cover my ears. I've seriously stopped playing the game for a while now until I get some sleep then I'll plow through that area.

This isn't actually about pooping your pants.

YOU LIARS. I refuse to believe none of you soiled their pants while gaming at one point.

Another one that caught me off guard was the second dream level of Max Payne. Good lord I can still hear that woman shriek.

Probably the PlayStation Clock Tower game.

I've never stood up with such force that I've knocked over my chair before then.
The music design in that game is superb, and at least 50% responsible for the feeling of shear terror and anxiety you will feel.

I'm going to be frightfully unoriginal and say Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

I know, I know, but it's all I've got. It's the only horror game that I've found genuinely frightening.

That whole game caught me off guard time and again. I enjoyed it, but hell did I shit myself with frightening regularity through it. I'm a jumpy person sometimes, I guess... In my defence, some of that was down to the fact that I could only play it at a mate's house, and they insisted on the lights out approach. All the better to sneak up on me, y'know?

Yup, pretty much.

If I were to elaborate, then it peaked at three major areas:

Storage:
It's so *freaking dark*. I mean the rest of the game is too, but this steps it up something fierce. Not to mention the amount of monsters spawning there is huge compared to anything you see up to that point.

Prison:
IMO here is where the terror really hits its highest point. Being constantly scared there and put on edge the entire time drained me utterly by the end of it.

Sewer:
Specifically the last section. The Brute who just waits for you and you have to distract and then run past him. The first time I tried to do it I screwed up and he went straight for me. I Alt+Tab'd out of there and waited for him to kill me. I eventually managed to get past him by taking the pussy way out and not wearing my headphones.

Oh yeah, did I mention I did the Sewer part in broad daylight?

System Shock 2 is very scary in the early parts, since it makes very effective use of tension. You're always low on ammo or having to use the wrench, and you can hear the enemies for some distance but you never know when they're going to be around the corner.

Silent hill 2 . The hospital . I still can't bring myself to beat that game . And i'm a grown man (boy?) now . My girlfriend doesn't understand how a videogame can scare me to such a point . But it does.

Mybe didn't shit myself but ZombiU was scary at points.
And also the Zombie map from Time Splitters: Future perfect had a few "JUMP BLAAAARRGGHH" moments that made me go WOAH!

I found the school in the first Silent Hill to be very disturbing. Actually gave me some nightmares I think.

You're not getting many responses because this thread happened only like three days ago, and about another half dozen times since I registered. People are a bit burnt out man, they've said their piece on this one. I'll answer anyway, but it's worth checking sometimes.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (holy fuck, I'm bringing that game up a lot these days) during the Ghost level. The level was whole new kinds of unsettling for me, I just kept waiting for it to happen and, damn. It was rough. At least in those jump scare games the tension fades after the cheapness.

The first time a game almost made me soil my pants was the first Resident Evil. Around the start of the game. The hallway when the dogs jump through the windows. I actually dropped my controller.

I'm going to go with 5 Days a Stranger.

I get scared quite easily in games so there's a lot of games I find scary. I am horrible when it comes to jump scares, but 5 Days a Stranger still stands out as unique to me because it has you dealing with the uncertainty of who you can trust or not and what's real or what's a dream. It's scary on a psychological level always giving you the impression that you're alone.

I recommend that you play it, it's free and can be played on pretty much any computer.

And by the same token, 7 Days a Skeptic, if only because of the positively mind-melting bit in the middle and end where the killer is on the loose and you only have a few stuns in your stun gun... in a point-and-click adventure interface.

And from there, there's also Trilby's Notes, which gets the "otherworld" atmosphere just perfect... even better than Silent Hill.

And from there, 6 Days a Sacrifice, just for the "OH GOD WHAT IS HAPPENING" mindscrew at the end.

The Chzo Mythos is really cool, guise.

If I'm to pick a different series, I have nothing but good things to say about Uplink, which, while not a horror game, gets so bloody intense that you'll often crap yourself regardless. "YOU HAVE SIX SECONDS AND THE FILE IS ALMOST DOWNLOADED DISCONNECT DISCONNECT DISCONNECT DISCONNECT!"

True, the entire series was batshit scary. Trilby's Notes is the one I personally find the most scary while 6 Days ranks at the bottom, but was a nice game nevertheless. I'd say it was worth playing and I am glad I bought the special edition of Trilby's Notes to get the extras.

The special editions are free now.

The walking dead game had quite a few jumpy moments, especially episodes 3 and 4.

That's probably the closest thing to scary I've played, and it was more than scary enough for me. I once tried to play dead space... I was too scared to play before anything even happened.

Survival Crisis Z and the first time i encountered Undead Children. That's the moment I will never forget.
I was playing it late at night, with my headphones on, just got out of a really tough fight, so my healh was low. All I've wanted was to get to the nearest safehouse to heal. And then it happened. Out of nowhere the walls started bleeding blood, strange symbols started to appear, the music changed to a much more intense one. "Holy shit, what the hell is going on, aaaaaah!". And then I was dead. All that took just a couple of seconds, but those moments are why i like the game so much.

I shall follow in you fellows' stead and say Amnesia. The scare I remember the most was near the beginning. I can't remember exactly which area, it was one of the dark ones with the doors and hallways, but I was sneaking my way through as best as I could, opening doors slowly, being nice and careful, yadda yadda. I thought I was doing really well until out of nowhere I hear the growl. It surprises me, so I freak out a bit, dive into a room, close the door and pause the game. At that point I take a moment to catch my breath, analyze the situation, and get myself ready for hiding. When I think I've got it under control I unpause, turn to my right, and the damn thing is in the middle of its slashing motion, music, sound, and everything.

I seriously thought I was safe and sound, so the mere fact that I had run into the room with the monster made me throw my keyboard and mouse away from me, stand up, and somehow in the process alt-tab to my desktop.

I stopped playing for the night after that.
