What it
isn't is "bustling", "thriving", or any other word that means "heavily populated". "Alive and kicking", on the other hand, means "enough people that you will find many full games across a variety of maps; if you log in at 3 am and look for a game, you will probably find one with enough people to make it worth playing."
Which is about a hundred people, I'd say.
Compare this to... let's say the older Duels of the Planeswalkers, the one that today's release is replacing, the end of that game's cycle featured
zero players on matchmaking, after about
one year, ish.
That is the step below 'alive and kicking', which is 'dead and buried.'
