I can't get enough of bagpipes, your so not alone.
Here's a band [I'm assuming you've never heard of them, no offense] that uses all of the normal rock instruments, and then they have a wheel violin, a normal violin, a flute player, and a bag pipe player.
It sounds weird, but I can't stop listening to them!

ah the bagpipes, such a beautiful instrument. the only people who don't like it are the people who haven't given it a chance

I. Do. Not. Get. It. How does such an awful instrument survive? You feel lonely because you can listen to something which is... unlistenable. Like a cat being castrated and strangled at the same time. A truly horrific part of the so-called music world.

Ok perhaps that was a little harsh but I cannot stand the fucking things and yes before anyone starts I have given it a chance. I live in a place where it's played often. Atrocious.

Not only are those pipes with a skull on them, but there's also a hurdy-gurdy. I'll give you a second to glue your faces back on.

Bagpipes are awesome. I was lucky enough to see some pipers from the Scottish military play their instruments for half an hour, and I was just speechless.
Bagpipes are a very nice instrument all by themselves, but they're also great as part of a band. For example, one of my favorite bands is a German band called 'Tanzwut', and I think they have 4 pipers... check it out, this will rock you socks! ^^

Being a scot, and working in the tourist industry I feel the need to intervene on this topic lol. Basically, the pipes, played properly, and as part of a band can be very good, some people are very good pipers in fact. However, the high streets of Edinburgh are littered with examples of what happens when you are not in face able to play the bagpipes, yet still repeatedly attempt to...

Oh, and being forced to listen to cd's of it all day while you work in a shop should be considered a form of torture, and therefore illegal under the geneva convention :p.

Like any instrument, it's good when the musician knows what they're doing and has a passion for it. My mother used to live next to an old Scottish gentleman who would play his bagpipes every day around lunchtime. It was great to listen to; I found it very peaceful and relaxing, mum found it uplifting and energising.

But I really think it depends on childhood. If the first pipes you hear are horrible, you never let it go. The first I heard them was actually in Spyro the Dragon II, on the Satyr level. Cause I loved mythical creatures at the time, I got really into it when the bagpipe segments came along, and used to replay that level over and over again. Also there was a Pepsi advert where a pipe band played at a swimming pool? That was pretty cool too.

I like bagpipe music in the right doses. I would still prefer a bottleneck guitar to it, but it certainly isn't bad.
