I can relate. I seem to be the only person who thinks that the Max Payne movie wasn't awful. Wasn't great, but it was a decent action flick. Granted, I went in expecting something that'd make me destroy the disc out of anger, but still...
Up top. I think the Max Payne movie is one of the best video games movies if not the best video game movie. And it stays mostly true to the source material. And its not that bad all on its own, though it seems as if it was cut off in the middle (not surprising really considering it only covers the first part out of three in the game). I honestly didn't expect it to be that good going in but it surprised me for the better, not quite the masterpiece the game was but a decent movie nonetheless.

Worst game of the year probably, but not the decade, I can think of a lot more games to put on that list.
Modern Warfare 3 releases this year, so DNF won't be holding onto that title long, after all.
I see what you did there

I support your right to think and I'll agree to a certain extent.
graphics mean nothing and bad games can be good in my eyes if they do one thing.
Make You Have Fun.
I did not expect greatness, I did not expect innovation, I did not expect 12+ years of work to show. I expected to have fun, I expected nostalgia, I expected wit.
Duke did not do that for me, I just played through it in a dazed trance to make it to the end, I even looked around all the levels for easter eggs, not for enjoyment but as a chore.
not worse game of the decade but one of the least fun games I have ever played.
When a game is bad you at least feel rage or laugh at it's problems.
When a game is good you feel enjoyment.
When a game is Duke Nukem: Forever you feel nothing which is worse than having a bad game, it's a boring game.

Not the worst game of the decade. Couple years, at the most. This coming from someone who has no love or hate or knowledge of the Duke Nukem franchise. This coming from someone who simply expected a fun game. Also, someone who is amused/impressed easily.

It just didn't do it for me. But we are all different, lovable snowflakes. So feel free to hold and express your opinion all you want... as long as you don't make the dumb comment of loving the game, not for gaming qualities, but because it is Duke. *barf* It's like saying turd tastes good, not because of its taste, but because it used to be food.

Never played it and don't want to. Yet if you like it then by no means should others opinions get in the way of it.

Good on ya. I for one actually agree with you there. Sure it's flawed, but then most games are. Sure it doesn't live up to the hype, but after 14 years it would have to have a physical Duke Nukem suit for you to use or something to match that. Overall I had a fun time playing it and go back to it every once in a while when Im feeling bored and in need of some simple less than wholesome fun.

Worst game of the year? Holy shit dude, this is a brilliant year.

OP:

I'm liking it too. I'm playing through it right now and I have to wonder what the fuck everyone else was on about. The difficulty is fine, the weapon balance is fine and on normal i'm still going balls out and using whatever weapons I like (except for the enemy's that need certain weapons, such as rpg's or shrink rays).

As far as I can tell, the graphics are pretty decent (anyone proclaiming they are shit needs their eyes checked and their opinions removed) because the graphics convey what's happening perfectly.

The feel of the universe is pretty spot on (unless you count the hive, that kinda sucked) and the only thing I can see that might bother people is people who wanted exactly what they were expecting.

Fuck the gaming community. It was a brilliant ride and i'm glad i'm alive to be playing through it.

Edit:

If there is one glaring complaint its level design. Even with the glowy thing I still kinda feel like I don't know where the hell i'm going a lot of the time.

I looked at DNF the same way I looked at Command & Conquer: Renegade.

Yeah, it was bad. Terrible even. The graphics were shoddy, the levels were shit, the engine was poorly tuned, the enemies were garbage and the A.I. sucked. Hard. But, for some reason, I just get raw enjoyment out of both for no particular reason. I guess it's just something to do with me.

Worst game of the decade? Hell no. Worse than it should have been given both the people behind and the amount of time it took to make? Yes.

For me, its good moments were heavily overshadowed by the schizophrenic mish-mash of level design, boss battles and combat design. It was as if they took a great premise, but messed it up by giving it a bad formulaic and boring story, and then made it worse by putting almost every single bad idea the FPS genre has ever come up with since 1997.

Even the 'move this thingy over to that thingy by pushing it because you can't pick things up' mechanic from Prey (which I hated that mechanic in Prey, and I hated it in DNF) made it in there.

Overall, the game is okay at best, but the bad design choices and mish-mash of different design choices coupled with the 12 year wait make it a bad game.

People talk about how it's unfair to judge the game by how long it took to make. Sorry, but that's BS. If a game takes 12 years to make it better damn well better be worth those 12 years. Sorry, but that's just the long and short of it.

If you liked the game, that's great. But I certainly wish I was able to get back the few hours I spent on it. I wasn't even able to finish the game I hated it so much.

It's not that it was bad, it's just that it was so mediocre it didn't matter. My problem was the sheer amount of advertising that went into a mediocre game; kinda like EA games with every game ever.

It bored the hell out of me. Go into area > fight x number of aliens > proceed > repeat. I couldn't stand that process repeating over and over and over because it felt more like a grind than actual gameplay. It's brutally linear - it doesn't even try to deviate from the set path.

I got halfway through the stadium when I quit and never went back. Fuckin' boring.

I like it. It feels dated, but I don't feel like it's a bad game by any means. I felt the dam was a little tedious though since the humor didn't keep up.

Well there's your problem, you never finished the tutorial. The five-minute (if you didn't explore) tutorial. But if it bored you, it bored you. The game isn't exactly the greatest anyway.

One of the reasons why people hate on DNF so much is because of all the hype around it. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the 12 year hype.

I actually adored C&C Renegade. I thought it was fantastic fun, but I also loved the RTS games, and every time I go back to Renegade without playing either Generals or RA 1/2 I feel like I'm doing something wrong...

I haven't played DNF yet, but I dunno if I even will. I'd say I'd enjoy it, but I dunno. I might.

Played about half way through the demo and got bored and decided to do something else.
Even for someone who never played another Duke game, it was pretty bad.

I got it, I played it, I laughed and I enjoyed it.
It's a decent enough game even though it feels dated and was (obviously) not worth the 12 year wait.
