I mostly listen to Melodic death Metal and rick and all that, but there is exceptions, like Simon and Garfunkel. Call my taste of music weird if you want to.

As long as you're not a hipster. Hahahaha. Oh.. I hate those guys.

I suppose I'm more into progressive rock and folk. Hadn't even heard of this Michael Buble fellow until he appeared on the Colbert Report. I don't hate his music, but I wouldn't buy it. I like to think I can listen to anything except rap. Hell, I can even do some rap. Like that song at the beginning of The Boondocks? Maybe that's hip hop, I don't even know.

Are you looking for suggestions, or just people of a like mind?
I'm also into prog (Boris, Mars Volta, King Crimson etc) could you recommend some prog bands for me?

p.s no dream theatre they are bad prog imo

I don't know anyone that listens to ska beyond Reel Big Fish, no one around here has so much as heard of Streetlight Manifesto (although there are quite a few people on here that seem to like them).

Hello Escapists! I registered on recommendation from a friend who wishes to remain nameless for his own reasons. So I thought I'd give this forum a try.

Now, anyone who knows me know's I like music. A LOT. However, I'm also the kind of person who when sat next to someone who's listening to, oh I don't know... Hard Core death metal or something, theres me listening to Michael Bulbé - Me & Mrs. Jones.

Don't get me wrong, I like some of that music too on the odd occasion, but I'm preferable of the classics or modern inturpreations... Well... As long as they don't butcher the classics.

Is there anyone else who's like that?
So hang on... you're saying that you listen to music that other people don't listen to, and an example of that is Michael Buble? That guy is immensely popular, millions of people around the world listen to him. Not saying that's a bad thing or anything, but if you're saying that your music taste is in some way unusual, I'm not quite sure if I get your point.

Nobody where I live listens to Franz Ferdinand. I love Franz Ferdinand, I in fact, think they are awesome.

The fact that people in this beloved shithole of a country I live in just don't "get" them is a travesty.

There's some prog in the previous message I posted here. I wanna say the first three. I lean more towards the heavier progressive, though.

Cynic are progressive metal, don't know if you'll like them since you put "Mars Volta" in there, but I think they're great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fhVLykF3nU

Communic are great, as well. Again, though, they lean more towards metal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhSy4M2zqDs

Age of Nemesis is another good'n. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uThewjbZMxo&feature=related

If you like any of those, or any of the ones in my previous post, I'll keep goin'.

I will be damned to eternal hellfire if any of those bands I listed sound like.. Ugh.. Bullet for my Valentine. They are all a bit influenced by metal, as Boris is clearly not, though. So I can understand you not liking them.

The prog I posted in my previous message is mostly instrumental. Again, don't know if you like that. If you don't like any of it, though, you probably won't like any of the other prog I got, because I can't stand bands that sound Boris. No offense. =)

There's always Jethro Tull, though. Try Bogenbroom or, of course, Aqualung. Jack In The Green is a good'n, as well.

Okay, point taken. But, if anything, Boris sounds like Bullet for my valentine. And they sound insane. While I can't stand them, I can listen to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT6O4tZ4cWE Which is equally insane.

It gets worse like halfway through, but until then, I think it's enjoyable.

Im pretty sure that Michael Buble is an international star, not an indy music hero. I wouldn't go as far to say your the 'only' one.

I like quite a few artists I feel are obscure, with only cult followings, like

and

but I'm also a fan of some more mainstream stuff. Not a lot, but some.
