Does she like dancing? Bieber is a superior dancer to Opeth, his music is also better for dancing along with when attempting to induce desired humans to engage in sex acts.

Yes, I prefer Bieber to Opeth (or pretty much any metal).

Anybody have any metal acts that can actually dance? I'm genuinely curious here.

My friend there's a thing called taste in music, if she likes Justin Bieber better than some random band it's not anything to get worked up about.

My friend thinks Justin Bieber is the greatest thing ever, and I said have you listened to Opeth? She said no and I showed her a few songs, and she said it was horrible...she said Bieber was better than Opeth...what is wrong with this world??

Btw: I told her don't look at what you enjoy more, but look at the songwriting and structure and instrumentation, and she still said Bieber was better
Opeth is my favorite band of all time, I kinda feel for you. Hang in there buddy, there are still some people who CAN appreciate the Swedish master of prog metal :)

Out of curiosity:

a) Did you asked her why exactly is Bieber better?

b) What songs did you make her listen? If it was some heavy, growling stuff, then I can KINDA understand her. It took me quite a while before I got used to growl to actually listen to it. Then again, both The Drapery Falls and Serenity Painted Death are my favorite songs by Opeth, so God bless for that adjustment. But, if you turned on Windowpane, A Fair Judgment or Harvest, then I cannot honestly understand WHY does she think that Bieber is better...

Today someone had a different opinion then me... I lost my faith in humanity.
I swear faith in humanity is getting easier to lose then your keys now-a-days.
"what are you searching for dear?"
"I lost my faith in humanity again, have you seen it honey?"
"Have you looking in your sock drawer?"
"Oh, there it is!"

People have different opinions on thing and there is no reason tog et bent out of shape because people believe different things then you. Relax and let it go. Conflicts over opinions just start wars (the flame kind and the kind with people actually dieing too). Also, before you comment on the how much better structured one type of song is, remember that there is no notion of objectively judging "art" there is only cultural standards that have been established through opinion over time. Breath with me now, in and out, in and out, in...

First of all, it sounds like you were speaking to your friend in a very condescending manner, which makes it unlikely for her to concede anything to you. Second, since pop and metal are such vastly different genres, you can't really expect a fan of pop to like metal. Not that people like that don't exist, but they're few and far between.

Also, you're getting a bit pissy over a very minor occasion. The Bieber bashing is getting old.

My friend legitimately thinks that rap is a superior form of musical expression than almost anything else. He LIKES other stuff, but rap has become his music of choice. Now don't get me wrong I've heard more than a few rap songs I like, but at one point he actually tried to convince me that a song where the chorus "this is gangsta' music" repeated ad nauseam and included the line "They don't drink Pepsi, they only sell coke" was a good song. I'm still trying to figure out how to break it to him that I don't give a flying shit about his self-written freestyle raps "dissing" people that he doesn't like because they sounds terrible and don't have any relevance to me because I don't know any of these people he talks about beyond meeting them once or twice. (The worst offense any of his targets has committed to me is she owes me $20 that I stopped caring about a month ago.)

His fans don't make me very angry. Just typical human behaviour, at that age, bieber is their idea of "attractive" thus masking their perceptions to how dreadful his music is.

It does make me very angry, however, that the little brats success is so very undeserved.

Going from soulless pop to heavy metal is a bit much. You should try some light rock first like The Beatles and then move onto Led Zeppelin, then metal.

I'm glad SOMEONE is using this term ironically. I mean, it seems like every time someone important does something stupid or scary, people lose faith in every other human. Examples "I might heard a possible rumor that activision might want to buy take two interactive. I have lost faith in humanity." "A reality show got some popularity, I have lost faith in humanity" "Some kid did a stupid stunt, I have lost faith in humanity."

ENOUGH! Are we not also human? Do we not have civil discussions every day, both with well worded points and arguments? Am I talking to a bunch of robots? Don't lose faith in humanity every time someone does something stupid or scary. That's like a devout catholic losing his or her faith in god every time they trip on the sidewalk.

Every time I see an "I have lost faith in humanity" thread I die a little inside.

People need to get over their adolescent attitudes and realize the world is full of people who are different than you!

Yeah, Justin Bieber is awful, but so is Opeth. I can honestly say that between them, I'd rather listen to Bieber.

I agree with her. Bieber is more interesting, and the songs are shorter and catchier. Opeth drags on for ages and is depressing. I don't have time to listen to Opeth. People should pay me to listen to music like that... oh wait, they do. Doesn't mean I enjoy the experience though. One person's 8 minutes of joyous pregressive metal is another person's 8 minutes of time they want god to refund them when they die.
