I miss them so very much. Bought Torchlight just because it reminded me of those days haha.

I do like them, a lot. I wouldn't call them horrendous at all, it's bad 3D that looks awful, but this is gorgeous 2D.

Take Planescape: Torment, beautifully hand drawn art, it really adds to the atmosphere. You barely see art like that nowadays, which is a shame.

EW...I hate that style.

So ugly...

It's all blocky...
Old and crappy 3D is blocky, 2D doesn't have to be as it's often hand drawn. Planescape: Torment is a prime example.

I always wondered why we bothered with 3D when we had 2D like that.

Look at the 3D games out then. Ugly and horrible. 2D games are still playable.

Nowadays, I think 3D is good enough that there isn't much to be gained from true 2D, though I wish those "3D games on a 2D axis" would fuck off. They just annoy me.

What I hate is the early vector graphics of the late 90s, like Virtua Fighter. A 2D, sprite-based game like Samurai Showdown still looks great compared to Virtua Fighter. Even Zelda: OoT has aged badly graphics-wise. Starfox just about gets away with it.

Those graphics in particular have fond memories for me because Abe's Oddysee (and Abe's Exodus) was my favourite game of all time. I saved all 300 Mudokons in Abe's Exodus, I sank so much time into that game. I got within two or three Mudokons for Abe's Oddysee, I must have missed one of the secret bonus areas.

Those were the days...

I was just thinking this while playing Final Fantasy V and VI (or III, why'd they have to go do that?). I really like those graphics. The fake-3D models aren't too attractive though. For crappy 3D I prefer early 2000's.

Why call it ugly...it was the thing of the day.

Can't compare the atari 2600 to the PS3, pretty is nice but if the games aren't as fun...

I think the big thing about all those games is, they were fun, challenging and creative. The prettier games got the more dumbed down and hand holding they became imo.

And it tapped your own imagination...i miss those games.

No. I don't. I can understand nostalgia, but saying that

looks better than

is just wrong. I mean, old games look good for the time, but graphics have just gotten better and you know some new games are actually pretty good if you give them a chance...

personally, i love 3D, idk its just something to do with me, i aced Calc III due to my love for 3 dimensions, even the 90's "graphics" in 3D i prefer over anything in 2D, unless its pokemon on a handheld, now thats some awesome 2D raw power

those dont look too bad, just would bug me playing them because of lack of depth in the vision...

I love them, they have a nostalgic place in my heart. I grew up in the 90's so that could explain a lot though. I never though of them as bad graphics... I mean I can look past it all because well, that was my child hood lol. All the kids born in the 2000's will think the same of the 360, PS3 and maybe even the Wii (that's not a snag at the wii, but the graphics on the Wii aren't the best representation of this decades graphics) when the PS6 and the Xbox S.I come out with the virtual reality screen you step into.
