i love the assasins creed series BUT....
i absolutely dispise the first one.
i hate it.
Its one of the most boring most repetetive games ive ever played.
Got near the end but i couldnt even be bothered fighting the last boss so traded it in.
I have the 2nd, brotherhood, and revelations and i love each one more than the last.
I love the assasins creed series but hate the first game in it.

My question is, do any of you have a game series like this? one you really love but it has one game in it that nearly turned you off the entire series? or maybe it was one particular part of a single game that nearly ruined it for you?

(like that damned tower defence game in revelations)

I love the .Hack games but...

I wish the game play was more engaging then pressing X until everything dies. They're hack and slashers so I don't mind that much, but maybe they could make me press the square button every now and then. You know, mix it up a bit.

The first one was my favorite of the series. It was fun and immersive despite being repetitive. I hate:
-the stupid city renovation mini-game
-recruiting other assassins
-sending the other assassin's on missions to level up from the most recent games
-the setting for 2 and brotherhood

Your opinion mate. I personally enjoyed all of those parts. There was nothing about assasins creed 1 that i liked. i didn't even like altair untill revelations came along and actually gave him a character.

I see your gripes with the first game, but what it had which the others all lack is an element of grey. In the 1st game all but 1 of your targets tries to justify their actions for the greater good whereas the bad guys since are all just clearly power hungry.

I love Cod (single player), but besides Cod4, they're all interactive michael bay movies.

I love Fire emblem, but Blazing sword's story has such large holes you can drive a tank through it. Also, Radiant Dawn sucked.

I love the Fallout franchise, really do... but then Tactics came along and turned the lore into a joke... still liked the game though.

Then there was Brotherhood of Steel. I thought I'd never see another Fallout game worthy of the name. -that would be the answer to the thread's subject.

Then Fallout 3 came along. Lore was still a joke, but it was really fun. I loved the franchise again!
Then New Vegas blew my mind. Seriously, it was like what Fallout 3 should have been. I want moar.

If we're on the subject of assassin's creed, though... I love the concept, the art direction... even the story telling isn't bad. But I hate the controls, despise the game mechanics... great idea, terrible execution. So sad...

I love Borderlands, it really is one of my favourite games of all time.
But I can't fucking stand the crappy PC port. If I don't use the right drivers from like 2 years ago then the fucking thing randomly causes my PC to blue screen. And even though my PC far exceeds its minimum stats and far surpasses many of its recommended stats it still chugs if I play it at any higher than 800*600. And my PC has no problem running shit like Space Marine and Arkham City on medium.

I'm sorry, but you have to explain this to me. You have played the game and hate it, but you're going to buy it just to say you own it?

Anyway, I like Final Fantasy X quite a bit, but...Tidus. I can't think of a main character I've ever disliked as much as him. Beyond him, I would find little at fault with the game (beyond chocobo racing of course)

I love Assassins Creed BUT I'm one of those people who consider 2.5 and 2.75 to be pointless. I was suckered into the series because the first was different and fun (and I'm baffled by all the hate it gets...yes it gets repetitive but still) and, the second was like the first only better (even if city building was a bit token and, money quickly became pointless). I don't care about the two multiplayer ones though.

I loved Dragon Age: Origins but, Dragon Age 2 shouldn't have existed.

I liked Star Wars the Force Unleashed but, FU2 shouldn't have existed (if only it became an anthology series...)

I love Mass Effect but god damn has the story gone downhill - railroading, stuff that makes no sense, established lore contradicted and now the final installment requires origin. There was a brief spark of hope with Lair of the Shadowbroker, but Arrival was straight back to mediocrity.

I am currently playing, and loving, Demon's Souls...

BUT

Most of the boss battles are a piece of crap, feel out of place, and ruin the atmosphere and pacing. The entire game tells you to take it slow, act cautious, and be observant. If you do that, you can generally make it through any level on your first try. Boss battles? Completely different story. You have to forget everything the game tells you. It is like you are stepping into a completely different game, and it is very annoying.

I do love Sonic Generations, but I'll admit that most of the game's replay value - or indeed value at all - comes from nostalgia. And that most of the challenge missions are crap. But hey, at least the levels are fun. ...Most of them, anyway.

Hey! I love Rekka no Ken! It was my first Fire Emblem! The gameplay is a lot of fun and maxing out Raven or Canas is delicious.
I also enjoy Radiant Dawn, but yeah it really sucks compared to that established Fire Emblem godliness.
What IS your favorite Fire Emblem? I hope you don't say Shadow Dragon...

OP: I love Pokemon, but I can't go back to play gen 1 no matter what I try. The graphics make my eyes hurt, the sounds are all variations of static, the stats are completely jiggered, the types are completely fucked, bug types are a joke, and psychic types rickroll the whole game.
The gen 1 remakes are fantastic, and I love playing anything gen 2+ (except gen 3 which is really boring imo), but I can't play gen 1 anymore, I just can't.

If that doesn't satisfy: I love every Metroid game except MOM. MOM makes me want to disregard all canon for Metroid, go in a corner, and think happy thoughts about how Samus is still a strong character.
