Im drinking some ole smokey moonshine and it has such a clear wonderful flavor and gods it makes me feel fucking goood!

honestly though I do love shine and its history. Id like to get some popcorn suttons and try it and see how it compares to my current favorite ole smokey.

So any connoisseur's of moonshine here on the escapist? what are some other drinks your passionate of?

Isn't moonshine essentially an unaged bourbon? Predominately corn alcohol...distilled to a high alcohol content...I'm surprised it has any flavor, a lot of the flavor of bourbons comes from the aging.

If moonshine is essentially homemade liquor, we have that (fairly common, but technically illegal) here too in Norway, and if the stuff is legit it can be good. But it's just pure alcohol, and tasteless (apart from the burning sensation) so I don't think they're at all similar.
Pretty much. I've had my run with moonshine myself (I'm Norwegian as well), but I quit the stuff after a rather... Unpleasant evening, and since there's no particular taste to the liqour, I just don't see the point, even if it is cheap.

Rather have me some nice and fancy gin and tonic.

Its actually a common myth that's its a particularly high alcohol content its usually similar to your average bourbon or whiskey. And its usually in reference to corn whiskey which if done right has a distinct smooth flavor. Get some ole smokey moonshine from east tn and youl see what I mean. Theres is only 100 proof.

I am personally a fan of whiskeys and bourbons. So if moonshine is like those I will have to try it sometime.

Ah, Old Smokey. I got to visit the distillery in Gatlinburg this summer. They have free samples and a stereotypical hillbilly sitting next to the distillery while a bluegrass band performs live (no joke).

My personal favorite is the blackberry flavored Old Smokey. That stuff is dangerous.

Moonshine can be good especially the home made stuff when flavored right, I prefer the apple pie myself, by itself though it is quite tasteless. Well the stuff that I drank had little to no flavor. It makes an awesome mixer because it has very little flavor & after a few shots of it who cares what anything tastes like anyway....

Never had moonshine myself... being British!

My tipples of choice are what I keep in my bar(globe):

I always have Amaretto, Grand Marnier/Cointreau, Hendrick's/Bombay Sapphire and Morgan's Spiced! Love it!

The Amaretto and the Grand Marnier/Cointreau I drink neat or on the rocks... they are ace... the others I have with Tonic and Coke respectively!

Oh... and Port of course... always have a bottle on the go! :p

It's legal moonshine if that's what you're confused about. Old Smokey was the first company to make legal moonshine (at least that's what they boast).

Bourbon has a very clear corn taste. I would suspect that moonshine would have an even stronger corn taste.

But surely legal moonshine is just regular booze?
I'm British so I've no idea. Possibly I'm using the word incorrectly.

No not cutting the head off of any liqour can lead to blindness.

You are technically correct. I guess we still use the term because it came from an old Moonshine recipe and the process is almost the same. It's really a marketing gimmick.

the tastelessness -is- the point. i like it because i love one of the effects of alcohol, but i hate the taste of alcohol.

Ah okay. That makes sense.
And give me an excuse to use this...

I've never had moonshine per se. We did find a few bottles of pear wine in the garage that my grandpa attempted to make, and that stuff was best described as rocket fuel.

I'm surprised it isn't more common in Canada what with the ludicrous prices on alcohol in this country. Actually it wouldn't at all surprise me if it was more common in the Nova Scotia and Newfoundland areas...

(If anyone has recipes they're willing to share, PM me :p)
