I love Nintendo, but they don't love real gamers. They should try to compete on EVERY level with the competitors on their next console, but I know they wont, because there's money to be made from a casual market
Yeah, and release more gritty space-marine shooters and driving sims. Good idea.
As opposed to dancing and exercising games? To be fair, if those are the only titles you can find on other platforms, you aren't looking very hard. I didn't specifically mention games, I think it should work hard on all aspects. It is charming and accessible, but it's graphics and lack of other media are weak points. It could do with better online support and an improved control system, which for the next generation of consoles will be the true battleground. Judging by your sarcastic and dull witted response however, I doubt you actually wanted a discussion on the pros and cons of the Wii, and instead were looking to knock someone's opinion, while nursing a false feeling of intellectual superiority. Well done you
Spot-on deduction, Detective. Except for one thing: I'm pointing out the absurdity of claiming the Wii is the ONLY console not innovating. You know the entire industry has been hit by this disease, and at least Nintendo is experimenting and branching out. Nintendo started in the biz with the FAMICOM. The Family Computer. That's what Nintendo's main goal is, even though they have been known for awesome games like the Metroid series and Goldeneye. PS3 and 360 have above all been only catering towards a very tight demographic: those who care about realism and grit more than anything else. Realism isn't bad, it's just not everything. Not saying those games are bad, but they're VERY similar but with minor tweaks. Deadspace? Doom3 with zero g and Gears camera. Every non-COD shooter out there? Half-Life or System Shock with minor tweaks. Sure the PS3 and 360 are getting into motion controls, but for what kinds of games? Either HD versions of Wii games, or-you guessed it-gritty space marines and Madden. The Wii is a casual console with games for every audience, the big 2 consoles are for the more modern "hard core" console gamer. The consoles aren't even in the same demographic. The issue with Nintendo is that they forget that "gamers" are becoming an older demographic, and that is their big flaw: be the console for "everybody," but gamers are a part of "everybody." Nintendo shouldn't give up its casual market, because that's a demographic the others have abandoned.

Dull-witted? Really? You were that offended by my passing remark? I agree with your post to an extent, and commented in perhaps a failed attempt to be humorous. I was hoping to sum up my feelings in a joke and move on, but here is the intellectual reply you feel you were denied.

Finish this sentence starting with "I love nintendo but"

Example:
"I love nintendo but, the Wii really needs to be more multi-media based like the PS3 and 360"
I love nintendo, but they really REALLY need to stop recycling their old series'.

It's getting ridiculous

Aside: BTW I doubt the the Wii will ever diversify more. They're making too much off the casual crowd, and the Wiimote isn't exactly suited to more hardcore genres like FPS and RTS.

I love nintendo but... um.... hm.

oh, i got it!

I love nintendo but they need to make a serious graphics console that can rival the 360/PS3, make more adult games without screwing with the classics like pokemon (my guilty pleasure), and make another game like windwaker (who didnt like sailing across the ocean, so peaceful).

well? get on it nintendo.
I love Nintendo but they need to get back on whatever they were on when they made Paper Mario and use the necessary stylization of their console to their advantage (along with copious amounts of humor, good writing, and smooth game play).

Well that's fine and well, except for instead of saying any of that, you just posted a sarcastic reply which I misinterpreted. While I could have read into your comment the way you intended, I could have read into it many other ways, which I did. I'm sorry for that.

I agree with you, but I wasn't commenting on other consoles, I was talking about the Wii. I'd love a traditional games company to head the "console war" (more traditional than the big two at least), but for now the Wii is considered the weakest of the bunch, and it's semi deservedly so.

The grey FPS market is overblown I agree, but with some top notch games due to come out (like Gran Turismo or Brink), I'm sure that it is the number one thing that producers are going to want to avoid, in order to draw attention to themselves. Meanwhile, while there is money in gritty shooters, some will be inevitable. The Wii, or future Nintendo consoles shouldn't give up on it's casual fan base, but it also shouldn't do so at the expense of the "gamer" fan base, one that spends the most time, energy and money in the industry, and still harbours nostalgia for the Nintendo of old. There can only be so many Mario themed games before he goes the way of Sonic. The difference in quality of the games that have been made for all of the three consoles is staggering (and not between the PS3 and 360). A Wii that CAN compete, but doesn't concentrate on competing would be an all round winner in my opinion. Which is what I was trying to say in the first post
